Is There a Reason Fatshark Hates Veteran?

From playing vet I feel like he’s more shoehorned into full Krak grenade spam build + Focus Target more than anything else. Shout is still the best ability, Plasma Gun is still performing extremely well and hitting comfortable breakpoints in H40 with focus target. All of his unique weapons aside from Power Sword and Plasma are very mid. Just heavily lacking in variety.

I don’t think Veteran is better than Zealot at melee though. He can dish out damage with the right weapons and talents but Veteran mobility is really lacking compared to a Zealot stacking attack speed and perma chaining charges together in the backline of the enemy gunners and specialists.

That’s because Fatshark decided to increase difficulty by doing carapace and boss spam while inflating HP of armored enemies. Kraks+FT is Veteran’s best answer to that. Shout is best because instant toughness refill+neutralizing melee threats is invaluable, urine toughness is OP, and Vet isn’t dependent on their blitz to do damage so they can take a defensive one and not lose anything.

It’s always been this way. When things are going well melee Vet can easily outdo Zealot, but when things start going down the crapper, the Vet better hope one shout and nade spam is enough to get them out. Meanwhile Zealot has a lot more tools to get out of a desperate situation.

Shouts gracefully pushing everything away and getting 10s of immunity to 1 massive mis play

It’s not really that dangerous tbh

I feel these are only true if you run Powersword

Have both vet and zealot use DS and you’ll notice the difference

I do agree we would need to remove the ammo downside on Havoc but at the same time we would need to make sure things like flamer and rumbler are nerfed to prevent issues with that

Haha of course of course, but with the CD nerfs there can always be a window of danger, and its still toughness you can get a bunch of stimmed ragers on your ass after you’ve already shouted and suddenly be in a sticky spot gold toughness or not.

The tax for activation is obv only for powersword, but not stamina/sprint damage/toughness regen/dodge economy. Thats true even with DS even tho you can then use Blessing or Perks to make up some of it, but running the dodge refresh blessing removes at least one of DS big damage blessings. It is much safer though, you’re right! And for stamina economy thats why a lot of meta builds run a stamina curio on Vet, they need it.

Vet should have some way to make ammo only for themselves. Should be a class passive or something. Like give Vet the OG Scavenger aura as a passive and let the aura grant it to teammates with the current limitation. If you did that a vet could run a different aura even in scenarios where the other teammates arent relying on ammo regen.

Which DS and in what mode? There are three of them and at least two of them are different enough from each other

I’m asking to highlight the tiny issue with this melee vet debate, because you mean the DS IV right?

Thats why you don’t run it, they even gave us a little dodge indicator below the stamina bar to hammer it home

True, the stamina curio is a staple item and a constant

Yea but my point is the Vet has the worst “actually in melee” durability & maneuverability of every class and some of the “fixes” to that involve devaluing your combat weapon. You don’t need it, thats why I also said if you play at a very high level Vet is very good at melee, but just GENERALLY they are “weaker” at moving around a melee situation. All their talents are for pumping damage.

I would not hand an uncanny/thrust DSMk4 to a normie heresy/damnation player and say “oh yea vets cracked in melee here ya go” - they will probably die. Much safer on any other class.

The damage pumping talents just make it so that really good players who understand the limitations and can reliably position and make good choices can get a lot out of Vet.

Nobody needs Agile on the DS irregardless of skill and thats the point, the blessing is virtually useless except for the 10% weakspot damage. Its a placebo!

Of course not, you hand them the DSMk5 which is a superior weapon outside Havoc and inherently solves all the mobility issues…

And that’s the problem with this whole debate about melee vet, you guys are so stomped by the meta that the notion of there being something equally competetive past the DS4 and PS is totally alien to you!

It does what it says, how is that placebo? You can have infinite dodges with it, which is why its recommended for players to use defensively. It works as advertised.

Thanks for the automatic disclaimer :joy:

Even though I feel the same way for Zealot, I’m sure both old and new tree have their strong suits. The bigger problem is, we’ve become complacent. Fatshark is..n’t?

Yeah this

Veteran gets alot of

Melee is better perks for holding sprint where zealot the class designed to charge into the fray has a bunch of temperamental very defensive rewarding perks rather than rewarding being aggressive
