Do bleeding kills actually count as melee kills ?
They’re probably their own thing. They don’t give back the 2.5% toughness on melee kill so following that logic they probably don’t count torwards your contracts.
Seems likely. I like it on knives, but you can get it off grenades, ogryn charges, etc.
DoTs like bleed tend to not count as neither melee nor ranged contract-wise!
Does that mean the purgatus staff and flamer kills don’t count as ranged kills some percentage of the time?

I wanna say that I’ve had plenty of people tell me that fire dots count as melee kills and bleed as ranged kills for contracts.
I wanna say this info feels correct but it’s weird that it would work that way.
Then again the ranged / melee requirement for contracts shouldn’t exist to begin with but that “might just be me”.
IIRC none of the staves does.
Voidstrike kills 100% do.
Fairly certain surge does.
Trauma 100% doesn’t.
Purge, not sure either way.
Are you sure it was Voidstrike kills, but not from teammates’ ranged weapons?
Because I remember entering a game with it, my teammates barely used any ranged weaponry, so I got a lot of kills and almost no progress in the contract.
Another reason to ask for a “solo” mission option. Go in, do some kills, leave, see what counts for what.
I’m playing my “special” ogryn build. That involves this gun and

bash attack counts as heavy melee attack. Recieves all bonuses from heavy melee attack talents. Pierce let’s me smack through packs of maulers and ragers. Applying bleed everywhere and getting dmg resistance.
Bash attack does very little damage. So most of enemies die to bleed. But the scoreboard still shows me that i killed all enemies with ranged attacks (despite me rarely shooting). Havent checked if it counts for a contracts.
But once again. Fatshark being Fartshark may messed up there as well. And made so only direct finishing blows counts towards contracts. Not overall kills.

If you want to do weekly quests, don’t go for DoT builds.
I remember seeing in a few places bleed counting as ranged and fire counting as melee.
My bleed dagger zealot I believe gets most ranged kill contracts this way. But I could be wrong. It’s been awhile now. Memory is fuzzy.
To me, this is just a bit problematic for Ogryn shield / heavy / bleed on heavy attack builds.
Most kills for chaff npcs happen with the bleed effect from heavy attacks so either there should be a damage increase to the shield heavies so as to reliably kill trash npcs with it, or bleed needs to be counted as melee or … give shields the thrust blessing ?
It’s a minor issue but not helping the case of the shield once again.
Your problem would be fixed by removing the ranged / melee stipulation from the contracts.

I’ve always read that enemies you kill count as whatever weapon you have in your hand when they die for the contracts.
So if you spam heavies as a shield ogryn, everything dying from the bleed would count as melee kills, BUT if you switch to your gun while they’re bleeding, then they’ll count as a ranged kill.
Well that’s just what I keep hearing.
It should be easy to test with the mod that shows you contract process in-game. It’s a great mod, it feels like it should be part of the base game.
