Introduction to Havoc Game Mode - Dev Blog

this will just be for farming out penances, let’s be honest the majority of players will never touch this.

Funnily enough, take a closer look at the flamer. Check out where the gas can is.

Does this mean it takes 1 week to promote to the next level and get the next mission? So it will take 40 weeks before we see what Havok Level 40 looks like?

This sounds like VT2 WoM Weaves (thanks @DornIvanotic). I didn’t like that. I hope it isn’t as gimmicky as that was.

I hope there will be a separate solo ladder for this.

this just sounds like weaves + deeds, the most beloved systems of vt2 !

It’s a bit confusing, but this makes it seem that it only updates every week? At the very least, if you piggyback off of someone else’s rank your mission won’t update until next week.

this is just weaves

i think it means that you can rank up as many times as you want, just the rank will update after a week passes
anyways, gibberish

Alright, I’ve spent a little time with this and do have some questions I hope can be addressed in the Q&A:

  1. Do we select the 1-5 difficulty level when playing Havoc or are these missions working on a completely different system, where difficulty is fixed?

  2. If I complete my Havoc Order as soon as it’s available, do I have to wait a week before I’m given a new one?

  3. Can you replay your completed Havoc Order levels? Like if I was at level 20 but wanted to bust down to 5, could I do that on my own? Or would I need to find someone with a level 5 Order to join?

Disabling mods could be a step toward a real challenge :upside_down_face:

so great that the one somewhat difficult modifier that players loved will be locked behind a gimmick game mode like weaves/deeds to make the players that enjoyed mobian 21st to play the new gimmick mode. FS saw how weaves wasn’t liked overall, and ignored it, then saw how Mobi was liked and stuck it behind a game mode that overall was disliked.

Surely we do not need spawn fixes, map selection or modifier selection
play the same maps with bad conditions or play weaves and hope you get a functional map with mobi 21st.

Insulting yet again.

Those are good questions, I’d like to add this one:
Is Havoc level character locked like Melk contracts (well trust level is, so…) so we’ll have to level our 4 characters at the same time each week?
Will new garb be also character locked then? (Level up operative to gain access to new Moebian cosmetics for that class).

Oh yea, great question: is Havoc Level account- or character-bound?

Summary:

The system:

  • Havoc is a progression system for lvl 30 players only.
  • It offers 40 missions with increasing difficulty (which i assume are available at a difficulty corresponding to max reached player rank).
  • A player’s rank immediately jumps to current highest cleared mission (but is only updated by the end of the week).
  • Failing 3 missions (of any diff? or only of current max diff?) in a row will reduce your rank by 1.
  • Not progressing for a week (meaning of “progressing” is not specified) will demote you by 1 rank.

Missions:

  • The missions come with up to 2 mutators (such as high int or hunting grounds) and guaranteed negative modifiers (such as player debuffs), as well as a possible environmental condition (dark, fog, gas).
  • Each mission has all modifiers of the previous difficulty, with 1 or more additional modifiers (this does not apply to mutators and conditions).
  • The mutators applied to missions are different per player, and they will change every week.
  • 8 maps at launch (no rolling steel), but maps will rotate in the future.

Coop:

  • When playing as a group, the mutators of the “host” will be active for all players inside the mission.
  • The gamemode will be accessible via party finder, but not via quickplay.
  • You can skip the whole system and immediately jump from personal rank 1 to rank 40 by simply joining a hosted diff 40 mission and completing it

Rewards:

  • Mission completion reward: materials and mastery xp
  • Weekly reward: extra materials, based on weekly progress (what ever “progress” means)
  • Penance rewards: frames, titles, insignia and armor set (armor set does not require rank 40)

Potential issues:

  • Having different modifiers per player, seems completely pointless as it serves no purpose but adds multiple issues (such as the necessity for premades/partyfinder).
  • System might not encourage players to keep playing it for anything outside of difficulty. People might not even bother to play the 1 mission per week that they need in order to prevent rank decay. (this could also be a good thing, because it might increase the ratio of decently skilled players who are there for the difficulty, not for the ressource rewards)
  • Rank hopping is encouraged, removing the entire progression as soon as people start hosting diff ~40 lobbies.
  • Due to the ability to join lobbies of any mission difficulty, there is no built in learning curve and gatekeeping. This will result in low skilled players infesting high diff lobbies, unless players gatekeep their lobbies with “proof of skill” via penance cosmetics.
  • If failing 3 times in a row (assuming that this goes only for the current max difficulty) reduces the player’s rank by 1, people would be encouraged to quit out of missions. Unless quitting in any way is also counted as failing.
  • Dependency on premade/party finder will very likely make the gamemode less popular.

Unclear:

  • What determines the max difficulty that i can currently play?
  • Do i get access to a difficulty, based on my current highest completed?
  • Can i access all difficulties <= my current max, or only 1 diff at a time?
  • Does my max available mission difficulty get reset every week?
  • Do i need to play from diff 1-40 within a single week in order to get to rank 40, unless i just join someone elses high diff mission?
  • What happens, when my rank drops? Do i lose access to the higher difficulty missions?

To clarify, I’m pretty sure the modifiers at levels 1-40 are fixed for all players (possibly forever?). The only thing different for each player at the same level is the mission and mutators.
