Introduction to Havoc Game Mode - Dev Blog

surely we wont just get this in black kek

It might be me stressing over today in general, but I’m not sure I understand this.

Is it a new mission thing entirely, or a personalized challenge? How does it interact with the RNG map?

I think we are still bumping up against a limitation that FS is working with: they either can’t, or don’t want to (my guess), give players the ability to spin up an infinite number of servers. Unless we get P2P, I really don’t see complete player control over match conditions happening.

Made a poll on the pox gas/vent purge/lights out (the sooner the better) :

bro, this gamemode in this current implementation will spin up an infinite number of servers just because of the friends skipping ranks implementation.

right now in it’s current form, you CAN accomplish what im asking for but with a stupidly annoying barrier: a friend or random does it all first, then you piggyback ONCE off of him, now you get to pick any mission in the entire set of ranks to replay as you wish.

what are you even trying to argue?

I’m not so sure, and I don’t think we have enough information to make that determination yet.

I’m not arguing anything. Just discussing why I think we’ve got what we’ve got and not what we want (complete control).

Mission selection would dilute the matchmaking pool so the solution was to divide the players with a mode you can’t matchmake for. ok

Could we maybe revisit having Vent Purge, Lights Out, and Pox Gas as part of these?

I already avoid these modifiers like the plague on the current map rotation. They are not fun and seem like really poor fits for additional challenge content.

where are all the people moaning about splitting the player base now lmao
it’s fine when fatshark does it i guess !!

Thinking about this system further, the ranks kind of make no sense. So if I understand it correctly, here’s the main points I’m thinking about:

  1. You gain rank by completing a mission of that rank. I.e. if you complete a Rank 40 mission, you will be rank 40.
  2. You lose rank by failing 3 missions.
  3. You gain a reward cache based on your rank.

…So correct me if I’m missing something, but does this not encourage players to just play one rank 40 mission a week and then not touch it again so they don’t risk losing it? Sounds to me like this gamemode unfortunately comes preprogrammed with incentive to not play it more than once a week.

nvm i overlooked this sentence

So true

on rereading the blog, they use the specific words

and i was thinking this would be more like weaves where you simply unlock a new map/modifier to play as you progress, but can go back to lower ranks as you like. this looks a lot worse than weaves if it truly is the case that you can only play the mission for your current order rank.

honestly im beyond disappointed the more reading comprehension i take advantage of. this is terrible.

Yeah, I initially thought that leaving would be relevant too, but in retrospect it’s completely irrelevant, you can just do whatever until you win one, it doesn’t even matter.

Yes.
You wait for others to play their way all the way up to 40.
Then you just join a 40 party and play 1 mission to get to the same point of progression as the others did by playing 40 missions.

Sounds pretty dumb.

I suppose if the system somehow rewards you for actually progressing to 40 yourself, it makes sense, but otherwise this just seems like people will share the rank with eachother and nobody bothers playing more than one per week past the initial couple days.

Iirc, the way that weaves handle it:

  • You can join any other party and complete any level of weave
  • completing those levels will count their completion for your progress
  • your own weave level is determined by the level of lowest difficulty that you did not complete

So if this was applied to our case here, joining a lvl 40 party would only grant you the lvl 40 achievements and rewards, if you have also cleared difficulties 1-39 at least once.

That would be reasonable.
But it is explicitly stated, that this is not what they are planning, so they should definitely change it.

Despite earlier saying the following, which implies that a player needs to complete lvls 1 through x in order to achieve rank x:

He was kind of right, basically locked behind pox gas to an extent

Again, we don’t know enough right now to know how it’ll play out for us. And we definitely don’t have enough information to determine how it’s going to be implemented in the backend. Just to illustrate that: hypothetically, there could be a limited pool of possible modifiers/conditions that get assigned to different people. So you and your friend could theoretically have the same mission.

The intent (imo) seems to be to encourage players who want more variety and/or challenge (at higher levels) to group up to play through each others’ missions. That’s where the Party Finder comes in. If other people can offer you more variety/choices than the mission board, it might make sense for people to stay in groups longer.

I don’t know if it’ll be successful, but that’s how I’m reading it at the moment.

The stupid shoulders on Vet still not sitting correctly is so funny.

Truly shows FS’s level of appreciation for their players!
