Introduction: Mortis Trials - Dev Blog

Please explain what we are to do with either of those?
Material? For what?

XP? For what?
image
(from True Level mod, so about 500 “levels” per char, one of each class)

Give us something to spend the material on first.
After Locked and Loaded dropped and everything was maxed out there has not been any use of material/melk/ordos
(Why the ordos are not at 25M is due to buying out the last of cosmetics)

Unless there are any form of penances this will be useless, even with penances you still have WAY too many queues for this game with only an audience of 5k players in all regions.

Long term planning is very much lacking

They didn’t even fix a literally dead Psyker talent node or a missing blessing on the Surge staff (and the annoying permanent “new” marker because of it) in those six month, and I very much suspect that they won’t fix them in this “big update”.

@FatsharkStrawHat: Fatshark, please fix such severe bugs before adding something that apparently nobody asked for!

There’s a massive difference between a job listing description and the reality of company culture. Changes like these don’t come from a single post but from top down.

There’s zero hope.

I wish they had made the train mission a special operation so it wouldn’t be part of Quickplay, because it plays very different from the other missions and quite a few people don’t really like it (including me) for its timer and repetitious gameplay.

I admit the idea behind the trials made me think of doing it solo too. It would be cool, but after all it’s a coop game.
Being able to start it solo would be great for testing purposes though. We can really hope they add solo mode at some point.

I’m otherwise excited for the release: it looks a bit too similar to last stands, but it’s content, and unlike most repliers here I like the psykanium setting and welcome the lore opportunities

Hadn’t they butchered havoc it would be even better… but four major updates a year speaks opportunities, hopefully we’ll see fixes too

Disrupt destiny is also bugged

Ah, forgot what it was, because I don’t run DD. :innocent: Thanks for the reminder!

This! There’s a reason many people including most big DT YouTubers use the Creature Spawner mod for the Meat Grinder. There are so many reactive effects in this game that the paralyzed enemies in the vanilla MG aren’t enough to test them at our leisure instead of annoying other people in real missions with experimental builds.

Mortis trials looks interesting to me, and I welcome the attempt to delve a bit deeper into the whole thing with psykers, Sefoni, and the story of the game. I genuinely don’t understand why so many other posters are complaining about this. A welcome addition to the game, at least from the description we have been given so far.

Thats yet another good point about this. Why the hell do we need Sefoni messing with our heads for “TRAINING”, when as a 4man team we have infiltrated the enemy held Atoma, countless times. We’ve taken down enemy leaders. We’ve extracted valuable assets.

But now, now is the time to add:

Riiiiiight. See this why I left a negative review. This “story” sucks.

Sefoni should already be dead. Executed for disobeying a direct order from Shipmistress Brahms. But sure, keep telling yourself that its fine, its not like its the 41st milennium or anything. Its just a big silly joke right Fatshark?

This is what happens when you let people who have no idea about 40k, write the dialogue for 40k. Next we’ll be doing humanitarian efforts for the poor people in the lower hive.

@FatsharkStrawHat Can you please make sure that the people writing the dialogue are aware that Shipmistress Brahms actually has several of her own psykers? She would use them primarily to send Astropathic communications. But the highest trained one is known as the Primaris, and they are usually a trusted companion to the Captain (within reason, its 40k, use that as context).

You have to bare that in mind when writing stupid dialogue about Sefoni “tampering with the crews minds”. Brahms has her own psykers, shes used dealing with them. Sefoni is not a “witch”, shes a trained tool. And if tool acts up, it gets “thrown out”.

I wish there is some new weapons in this trials update

Sefoni is Grendel’s retinue member and, let’s be real, 40k is a measure of how important you are, not strict rules. She gets away with sh*t because she’s, as this very blog post points out, a very rare and powerful psyker serving an Inquisitor for a long time.

Granted the Joss-Whedon-tier dialogue is boring me at this stage but that’s an entirely different thing than ‘the lore says this’ because 40k lore is basically just varying degrees of explaining plot armor.

Totally agree yes. My point is that this Psyker has been written to be actively tampering with the crews minds. Not the warband, the crew.

Brahms will have an Astropathic choir, yes? Shes used to dealing with psykers. I don’t see her just voxing the psyker to say “plz stop”!

I’m just not able to take this level of writing seriously.

Also:

Get out of here. What has she done? Sent messages? Infiltrated enemy minds to steal plans? Directly attacked the enemy with her powers???

SHOW DON’T TELL.

People working for the inquisition have considerable freedoms others don’t usually have. Reading people’s thoughts is part of the jobs of telepaths working for the inquisition. Also in the lore this is often not a voluntary thing any more than being able to hear a person standing next to you talk, is. You can’t just not be able to hear.

In games you often have to “press a button” to use a psychic power, but in the lore other people’s minds are just inherently leaking out their at least their surface thoughts to such an extend that it often renders telepaths insane because they can’t shut it off, so they prefer to be left alone and far away from people. With this in might Sefoni would be constantly bombarded with stray thoughts of everyone on the ship.

I genuinely miss seeing this as a common practice in media. Imagine if George Lucas had a side character saying “Oh my Emperor, here comes Darth Vader! He’s an evil Lord of the Sith!” during this scene in Star Wars: A New Hope.

^ Now take Darktide into this context. SHOW US what the members of Grendyl’s Warband are about. Don’t tell us about their exploits with cringe Millennial quips in the social hub. For example, Hallowette is apparently supposed to act as some kind of Torturer for Reject dissidents but all we have to go on is Brahms vaguely telling us so over the Vox.

The same as LITERALLY EVERY OTHER WARHAND MEMBER: basically nothing because Fatshark forgot to develop their characters because they’re trying desperately to make the Rejects Your Dudes and consider ‘character appears as a talking dummy’ a notable technological achievement.

One of the biggest narrative problems Darktide has is that it can’t make it’s Rejects characters (because it already committed to them being freeform) and it can’t make the warband characters because they lack the ability to put them in missions as actual entities.

We should’ve just been named members of Grendyl’s Warband. This whole “make your own Reject” schtick was a big, fat mistake.
