Do flamethrowers actually explode if damaged?
A 20 second Google says no.
I don’t mind it as a game mechanic mind you. It makes the class marginally more dangerous. The knock back on all explosions is a bit too much though IMHO.

Exploding flamers was one of the best changes. Putting aside the great new animations and effects of the panicked flamer with flame fumes getting out of his banged tank and exploding into a massive green bonfire, the whole thing is karking cool!
Also adds a new layer of tactical moves upon this certain enemy. You can dispatch flamer with a nice headshot and bedone with him, or hit his tank and fry and stagger all the trash wave surrounding him. Also now you have to really aim when you melee hit him.
This change was massive for me. Great job from Fatwhale indeed.
It’s based on how much health is left and where it’s hit.
It is also possible for the flamer to be sputtering but not explode if killed without hitting the backpack by melee. But why risk it. If you got any amount of cleave you might as well steer clear.
Just mind the gap.
This is dumb as hell, does Fatshark mean to say we’re killing conscious heretics? If so, why are they promoting mass murder.

I agree about this. That’s why they should deal damages when exploding, like a normal barrel.
They don’t deal much damage per se, it’s just bypassing toughness, cause it’s basically a barrel blow. Kinda lazy implementation.
They should remove knockback and make damage not bypassing toughness. So it would be more rewarding to blow them, rather than punishing.
Overall the game needs more like that. Scab bomber should have a special move when he pulls out a nade start laughing or screaming and runs at you with attempt of suicide blow. Dog can do some howling, that either keep spawning more dogs (lesser ones?), or buffing enemeis. Dreg ragers can have some chance of enragement when near death or mutagen injection, or they become faster and deal more damage (their eyes glowing red/green). Etc.
Call me crazy but flamer explosion should basically be burster explosion.

While we’re engaging in pedantry: first off, the flamethrower itself isn’t blowing up, it’s the tank of pressurized fuel. Secondly, pressurized containers like propane tanks usually don’t explode when shot either; but that’s because there’s no ignition source to trigger the explosion (from the bullet)… that changes drastically when you add explosive rounds to the mix.
In any case, popping the tank is a considerable vulnerability for the wearer, they probably wouldn’t be having a great time with burning Promethium suddenly spewing from their tank, even if it’s not volatile enough to explode.

Arguing realism in a ridiculous scifi series in which beings that believe things work, so they do, is already pretty pedantic.

Getting hit and killed by it isn’t fun, sure, but more important to me is the fact that I’m shooting a tank full of volatile fuel; it SHOULD explode!
The fact it skips toughness is the most glaring issue.
The flamer specialists should notice this and just drop useless nozzle shooting and become suicide bombers from the getgo, save the trouble of going through your toughness first.
Not so, flamethrower tanks are designed to NOT be volatile in case of, for example, being shot at or hit with shrapnel.
Then why do fire barrels deal 1 damage but flamer tanks deal a quarter of your health?
Scab flamers you can jump through, but tox flamers don’t use the fire barrel AOE so you can’t jump through green fire for some reason.
I said they’re too easy to explode. You gotta read that again man. The hitbox is massive even when I’m going out of my way to avoid it I still shoot it.
