I'm worried Fatshark obliterated a lot of the community's good will

It’s a really good game by itself, but in comparison to other games they’ve made, a lot of the choices are unbelievable.

Its pretty much the VT2 cycle all over again, if its on schedule, this game will be awesome in a year or two when most of the player base has moved on.

i read the first few lines and that’s all I need to see

so you think that battlefield 2042 is acceptable because all the others were like that
or fallout 76
or no mans sky

just because they have a history of bad launches doesn’t mean that its ok, its like seeing a someone sexually harass another and go “ah, its alright they do it all the time”

Supposedly they got in bed with Tencent because that would allow them to sell in other markets (assumedly that means China). I wonder how sales are going over there…

I really don’t understand where this comes from.

I know “china bad” and all that but almost every game/company Tencent has bought, has continued operating more or less the same way.

Warframe is owned by Tencent AFAIK and all the issues come from digital extremes.

Path of Exile is owned by Tencent, and they are often cited as one of the best F2P models.

I’m pretty sure they have a big part on League too, and it has just continued being as F2P as ever.

Why would Tencent want to kill the companies they buy? They are a massive money-making company, they are not stupid, nor want a quick buck, they want long term growth, like, well, most companies.

I really didn’t expect to be defending Tencent today, that’s a new one.

i did not want to sign up for another early access game.
the publisher of this game should be forced to sneeze once for every customer who regrets their purchase.

I’m afraid that ship has sailed. The train has indeed left the station a day late to the fair and a dollar short rather late in the day.

Cheerio!

Yes, indeed. One has to give credit: Whereas Electronic Arts is the great undertaker of video gaming, putting every company they acquire to rest soon after purchase, game studios operating under Tencent continue to flourish and prosper.

It appears the Chinese Corporate has more of a gameplan than American Corporate, even if it just to practise a hands-off approach. It clearly works better than what our Western companies do.

To be frank they are running on fumes of their PAST reputation for me. The core of the game is solid and fun, thanks to V1 and V2, but a lot of systems are barebones or do NOT exist.

They made a game that people assumed was a Vermintide sequel/reskin.

Its obviously there fault people dont read, and know nothing about 40k and dont understand any of the things they tried to achieve with the game.

If they try to archive “smite the heretic player” then they do indeed a perfect job. :innocent:

Yeah so I finally admitted to myself that once the shine of the Environment and setting wears off, the game is a piece of cr*p and I’m annoyed I spent 32 quid on it. I’ve uninstalled until 2024 when it might turn out ok.

im curious, what do you find crap and are annoyed about?

personally as soon as im in the mission the game is immensely fun.
equipment acquisition, upgrading and customisation (aka “crafting”) plainly sucks due to rng and the chat and social features are broken or nonexistent.

No? they got involved with Tencent for a fat stack of cash. Vermintide 1 and 2 are on steam in China already. Steam is currently left alone by the party, somehow.

Such as?

Exactly… you don’t invest to kill your investment. People are grasping at the most ridiculous irrational excuses for FS’s own design choices.

IMO the layout of the Mourningstar tells you everything you need to know.

There are 7 locations in the hub, and their placement is not designed around players but profit

When you spawn in you spawn at the back in the center, far from everything. They know the first place you are going is the hourly shop. To reach it you pass the premium shop

They know once you buy a weapon you are likely going to want to then go to the crafting station, passing the premium shop again

They know that after checking the shop you are going to head into a mission, but first you are likely to check your progress on your contracts, having to pass the premium shop

If this was designed with players in mind, the player would spawn in the center, and everything would be equally distant from that spawn point. The Armoury and crafting would be next to each other, and Sire Melk and the Mission board would be next to each other. Character look and premium shop would be next to each other.

Instead its all designed around making you pass the premium shop

Unless your name is Electronic Arts.
Anyway it’s actually an established tactic used by some companies to buy up competition and then kill it. Don’t think Tencent belongs to that crowd, though. They haven’t killed anything they bought yet.

I’m just repeating what hedge has said about it. Believe him or don’t, doesn’t worry me.

Tencent bought into fatshark in 2019, so any existing fatshark properties at that time (V1 and 2) would’ve been included in properties that could be sold in China from that point onwards.

China demands companies partner with local companies to sell in the PRC, i don’t think they need to be bought out by them tho

Tencent had something like a 10% share originally. It wasn’t until later that they bought the majority share.

This. Should. Not. Be. The. Norm.

Delay then (oh wait).
If my bread ain’t cooked I can’t sell it.
Can’t ask the customers to buy it, find out I f-ed up, have me put it back in the oven, come back later, and think “oh that’s pretty ok”.

State of performances isn’t as bad as it looks. But every supporting system has issues and should have NEVER made it past the design board (or those are malignous designs)
