I'm worried Fatshark obliterated a lot of the community's good will

I also like the game overall very much, there are glaring issues which COULD be avoided. The bad part is, that FS not even tells us why they really did it or rather, were their data comes from on which they base their decision.

Because there was a post about Premium Currency (back in 2019) and like 75% said “NO”, but now we have it. Also crafting was always a hot topic (I thought this was the reason to build upon in VT2: WoM), but now we have a game without crafting system (which is not even wanted because it “does not fit the theme”).

What I mean: I would not be worried that FS obliterated a lot of the good will. Because I am sure they did.
Sad to say, many do not care or are already trapped in the system/ have already a fear of missing stuff out (FOMO) and thus go with it. Which should not be.
Which would not need to be.
A shame really.

Don’t feel like digging through to find some of Hedge’s examples (which if I remember right are pretty tame considering), but the best examples I can think of are WoW’s “You think you want it, but you don’t.” and Diablo Immortal’s “Don’t you guys have phones?”.

Oh, so it’s ok, right ? Yeah guys, Mayson is right. VT1 and VT2 suffered on launch as well. Makes sense that DT should make the same mistakes. But why ? Can’t they learn from past experiences ? Why are some people content with this fact ? The fact that we have to wait quite some time until DT will reach the same level VT2 is about now. Im not saying the game should have been released with 4 classes and 4 specializations each, and a couple of DLC … but c’mon ! The fact that we dont have shared mats and dockets, the rng armory, no actual crafting, the horrendous mission hub, complete RNG on emperors gift, etc … feels like they took 1 step forward and 2 steps back with DT.

It’s clear to my jaded eyes that the whole thing is designed to have us passing by the FOMO shop as often as possible, with as many reminders that it exists as possible.

Don’t get me wrong, the in mission gameplay loop, the visuals, and the music are all outstanding. Everything else though feels like it’s just trying to funnel us to that FOMO cash shop with the now standardized real money currency standing in the way for actual refunds and sold in bundles that don’t quite line up to keep us at 0 currency.

The problem when games companies get bought by big investors is always the same : they stop being driven by the love of videogames and start working for money.
This, unfortunately, transpires here in some of the wrong decisions that have been taken.

we must strike back, we must make it a social faux pa to spend money in the game.

Not gonna lie, I actually couldn’t find the shop normally. Sure the menu thing is there, but I had a tough time finding that too given how jank i think the whole menu system is. The actual shop is next to the armory, but i only found that out going through the menu button and recognizing her. As long as the icon isnt bigger than the rest of them, it’ll be pretty easy to pass by with little to no regard for its existence. Personally that’s how I’m going to do my part. Take the aquilas i got from the Imperial Edition (having gotten the game free through a giveaway), buy a single thing that interests me (preferably something Krieg oriented) and not touch the shop EVER again.

TBH you and me are not the target audience for this. It’s those people who are apathetic to the systems in place or have a mental problem with restraint (whatever form that might take.). It just sucks that we’re still getting affected by game design decisions based off of funneling those people into their shop.

That is fair and really should be illegal.

This pretty much sums it up. I don’t think Darktide is really all that bad either or perhaps Darktide just feels so nice I’m giving it more slack, idk.

But I would call Vermintide 1 and 2 quality games that are, imo, the gold standard for coop games (yes even above the internet’s precious DRG). It’s a nice mix of solid core gameplay and fun things to chase (ie the perfect item) all while mastering a lot of different difficulties. Things like Chaos Wastes are a super nice bonus as well and the Vermintide DLC maps were pretty nice outside of Dark Omens (Winds of Magic feels like the biggest misstep they’ve ever made). Darktide feels like a great 40k game and a great coop game.

I have my issues but I certainly don’t feel like the sky is falling the way reddit would have you believe…

I’m 10000% sure that the choices for cash shop and all the other stupid designs have been management and are in no way the actual developers / programmer’s fault. Tencent is a POS and known for its terrible practices.

My goodwill is gone, not that I don’t feel like the developers can deliver on their promises, because they did so with VT2 (it just took a years to do so). My goodwill in SPENDING MONEY is gone. If I was given a product that was complete and did not have a predatory cash shop I would have spend TONS on this game. For now, they are only getting that $40 from me. And I’m SO CLOSE to the edge of demanding a refund if I see one last thing that upsets me. The only reason I DIDN’T request a refund, is because the weapons ACTUALLY HAVE STATS NOW. So the devs are listening but I bet they spent that entire beta creating that single window of info for us. And I feel bad that they are now chained to a product that didn’t deliver what people REALLY wanted.

I think rational people with a good bit of logic were thinking they would have learned from VT2’s development and lifetime cycle and implemented those changes for the better of their community and consumers. The fact they just ignored everything everyone wanted from VT2 and started back to square 1 is what is upsetting people.

They literally had 4 years of feedback, and then for their 3rd game ignored all of it and we are back to a LESS THAN VT2 launch. Less features, less classes, less maps. LESS and we are missing all those amazing things we were vying for from VT2.

It is just super disappointing. You should be disappointed like the rest of us.

They certainly lost not only my goodwill, but any future money from me until they get their act together.
Only good news: despite dropping 100 hours in the pre order beta, steam still honored the refund!

but yeah the lingering miasma from the state of darktide right now will take a long time to fade

IDK how big ‘a lot is’ … I have zero issues with the launch.

Yes, there’s missing content, bugs, crashes, balance issues … but those will get hammered out and the gameplay loop is hella fun. I’ve only done a few runs but I’ve had no crashes personally in-mission (weapon display bug def booted me out once!).

I can’t fathom all the whining about the cash shop. It’s not remotely new as a concept and it’s not like those cosmetics DO anything other than vanity.

game needs more content and refinement. stability and bug fixes go without saying

and i’ve been a booster for this game

i doubt tencent is much worse than our own corporations, however as an east asian company they may not appreciate that westerners have a lower tolerance for grinding

As someone who came into V1 late and stuck through the entire V2 development cycle, I honestly expected darktide to be a more of a mess, minus the cash shop drama.

Not that I’m defending Fatshark, but my word they’ve given me reason to be wary/bitter.
