Idea For Breaking Crafting Locks

Like I said, it doesn’t matter. People who complain will come back, and those who already enjoy it will continue to play. Things are going to get solved within the next month or two.

Hopefully, but the way I see it and the way Fatshark has operated, the complainers will stay away and the playercount will still slowly dwindle as the existing systems as they are keep hitting people’s limit for disatisfaction… The devs are having their month long summer break in the next 2 weeks.

No they aren’t. We saw the same with vermintide. We’ll receive a lot of lip service but no actual changes because all of their competent developers are completely tied up with pushing out the console ports. Don’t expect to see a single significant change to the gear system until after the console port flops.

Until then they’ll just keep reassuring us that we’ve been heard and that they’re discussing things internally but don’t actually have any proof or concrete plans forward to share. At best they might tweak some values in a spreadsheet to help tip the scales a bit in our favor, but that won’t help much because we have something like seven layers of RNG standing between us and a desired weapon.

I wouldn’t even begin holding my breath for a fix to crafting, or DLCs, or new classes, until after they’ve churned out the console port.

As a disclaimer, I’m in the IDGAF about locks camp*

When you get radio silence on the matter for 6 months, getting told “We’re discussing it” is a fairly weak response. Given the backlash, why wasn’t it being discussed after 1, 2, 3 months? If nothing else, sharing the goals of the crafting system would help to see if it aligns with player expectations e.g.

  • create a weapon tailored to the player’s playstyle**
  • modify an existing weapon to try a new playstyle
  • upgrade a weapon to improve it’s performance and push into harder difficulties
  • fine-tune a weapon to discover an optimal build

I’m just pulling these out of thin air as an example. Are FS trying to solve problems that matter to a player? Are the problems they solved for, even problems to begin with.

*The only time I can think of, that 100% unlocked gear would affect me, is if the rest of the team have perfect weaponry and steamroll the mission. For comparison, if you’ve played WoW and entered a dungeon (with appropriate gear) but the rest of the group is over geared, you’re getting carried whether you like it or not - that’s not very fun (IMO).

**I can’t think of a good term to express “I want raw damage” vs “I want crit” vs “I want impact because it’s funny”.

This is their most recent post. Believe it or not, it doesn’t matter.

gestures in the general direction of every other failed live service title no longer being supported by the devs

That’s exactly the hollow lipservice that I was talking about. They will keep reassuring you that you are being heard and continue not actually providing any fixes until after the console port is done. You’re falling for the damage control.

VT2

We’ll see. You’re entitled to your opinion.

vt2 isn’t a live service title. Darktide is a declared live service title

I don’t think anyone is claiming that FS is unable to create good or engaging games, but lookingat their two latest creations it seems like they have to do it by accident (which is somewhat worrying).

They have stated that VT2 was created for circa 100 hours. The game just happened to stick with people. They also stated that Darktide was created to last longer. It’s just that Darktide bellyflopped real hard and failed to keep it’s players around. Now Darktide has a very red stomach and is suffering from skinburns wgile the studio refuses to put any ointment where it hurts. Instead they spend six months painting Darktide’s toenails.

I like nailpolish as much as the next guy but it would definitely come way later in this situation.

Despite all the sales and newness, I think there’s a reason for this.

I’ve always been curious if there is such a thing for player concurrent count stats for consoles i.e. Playstation and Xbox.

I’d be interested how well VT2 is keeping on console player numbers wise.

VT2 has had years of development and refinement at this point. It just got new updates as well, so people are flocking to it until Darktide is more polished.

I still can’t finish Trail of Treachery on Xbox without freezing, and I heard the PS4 version isn’t doing much better. CW is still a freeze fest too. Console VT2 was a bad joke for me, like 2k hours.

Yes, but, I would think VT2 with it’s age would have less concurrent players than a game that has a more popular IP (40K), guns (FPS tends to sell more than first person melee), much newer, and recent sales. Their “player retention” tactics of FOMO/GACHA with crafting, maps, and etc. I think drive a stake through the heart of all the people stating that the RNG and locks are needed for good player retention, and that their removal would only harm concurrent player numbers. It’s just a reminder, to me, that it is in fact the opposite.

This is why I think console players will be cautious.

Unlike steam reviews they can’t research on stability or only look at reddit for performance issues.

Console players can’t see player count. So risky to buy online game and can’t get an idea if match making time will be good.

No crossplay, makes it even more risky. Cross play adds much better pool. There won’t be crossplay for Darktide PC to Xbox.

Playstation timed exclusive. No idea when this timer expires, then they need more time to develop it. Then going forward making sure all 3 platforms sync up with content. That’s another missed opportunity thanks to Microsoft.

They know they cannot sell at full AAA price for consoles. It will have be under at least half.
