Idea For Breaking Crafting Locks

Simply removing the locks is just as well of a fix as your idea, we don’t need arbitrary grinds to retain players, and at this point opening the gates to get as many casuals back in would be the best idea.

The only problem is that we don’t understand why the locks are in place, but they’re there for a reason. Maybe some devs would love to scrap them all together, but people above them insist they stay. The latest Comm-Link said they’re going to address it soon, so hopefully we’ll see why soon enough.

You and everybody else, but if for whatever reason the entire system has to stay in place, a compromise is better than nothing. Either way, its getting addressed by the end of the month.

When you’re consistently pessimistic about this game, yet you personally address one of its moderators to come help you, its not a good look. Just saying.

Afraid of the mods now huh?

Absolutely not. Why should I be?

I thought you said FS doesn’t care about casual players?

You’re right, I should have been more specific. I meant the toxic casuals who review bombed the game without even scratching the surface. The people who complain constantly with the intention of cancelling this game because they don’t understand how complex it actually gets. Now I agree that there are certain things that need to be changed, but bringing more negative criticism to an already over-saturated forum isn’t going to solve anything.

ironic

And it was deserved criticism. The game wasn’t even shipped completed. You might want to spend more time thinking why 95% of everybody disagrees with you.

Sometime ago, in thread started way back in November or December 22 I saw a claim that RNG is deliberate and there was supposed to be a MTX booster to game numbers in players favor.
Allegedly.

Fact that RNG is still around in it’s current horrible state, after months and months of our cry’s, pleas and overall RAGE, makes me suspicious there might be something there. Allegedly.

I’m afraid that lock breaking and 5th tier weapons could be MTX items.
It would be in line with Tencent way… (MTX and P2W) Allegedly.

Who’s this 95%? Toxic casuals? As in people with a short attention span who can’t invest more than a few hours into a video game before buying a new one.

Yes of course this game is unfinished, we all know that. Which again, is why we’re giving POSITIVE ideas to try and make it better. Are you dense, or what?

That’s what I’ve been thinking, and that its a business decision that’s largely out of the devs’ control. I had that in mind while I created this post, hence the compromise. BUT there is an announcement coming which addresses the locks and other crafting questions, so hopefully we’ll see.

I dunno, maybe I’m responding to the toxic bs you’re spouting. That could be why you’re getting all flustered. Exposing major flaws in your idea doesn’t give you free reign to come at me, or the ‘casuals’ of the playerbase personally (including yourself in that category btw).

If your idea is explicitly antagonistic against a particular group of players, then it’s not a particularly good or positive idea, is it?

Also, the 95% number is coming from the player count dropoff since release, as well as the recent forum poll.

I’m not going to bother with this anymore, since you clearly lack self-awareness. You never pointed out any “flaws” in my idea, as it was a compromise to their current system. You simply wanted to scrap it all together. How creative.

Vermintide 2 lost 95% of its “playerbase” as well. They’re called casuals. They pick up the game to try it out, realize its not for them and move on. People who love the game still play it til this day, and it will be no different for Darktide.

Darktide lost it’s 95% about 3 times faster. I wonder why that is.

Really doesn’t matter at this point. People who complain are still going to come back to this game eventually. Its not going anywhere, and there are thousands who continue to enjoy it.

I don’t think the people that still play really enjoy the crafting either. They play despite the crafting. Despite the locks. Ignoring something is worlds away from enjoying it. Vermintide 2 didn’t try to institute a 1000+ hour grind where the side effect of that is that you waste your resources on a much grander scale than VT2 ever did. Literally waste. It’s not progression, it’s literally a dice roll to see if you get anything useful.

Even if people enjoy the core gameplay, no one enjoys having the fruits of their efforts being flushed down the toilet. Overall the crafting system is at best neutral where you get stuff sometimes, but usually more a net negative in overall satisfaction in how it was designed to literally waste your time. That’s where the thinking of if it/locks didn’t exist it would only be an overall positive.

Fatshark didn’t know why so many people still played VT2, and they still don’t, because they keep trying these vaporous retention tactics that drive away casuals with a long grind, drive away dedicated players with a too uncertain grind and keep people who either don’t know how much better it was/could be or don’t care. My beef is neither of those, but only with the ones that try to convince others how this new system is good when it’s quantifiably worse in almost every way to the admittedly vestigial and still pretty bad system VT2 has. It wasn’t the crafting system that kept players playing, it was having a set foundation of weapons (that were also freely changeable if one wanted to try something different) to continuously build skill on.

It’s not one big thing but how all the little things just consistently eats away at any sense of satisfaction until it’s gone. The locks is just one of the more visible things.

It’s also the lost potential. This could have had massive staying power if not for all the structural and management oversights this game had from release. It could have been THE Warhammer 40k game. Part of the pain is watching it continuously squander the opportunity and potential it had.

That’s like saying someone has to eat an entire bunch of banana peels to determine that they’re actually inedible. No sir, I can reliably tell from experience alone. People still ate fatsharks rotten peels and surprise surprise, they weren’t thrilled.
