I like the Havoc ranking system. It protects strong players from having to play with weak ones, but not enough

It should always derank on loss. None of this rank protection at 40 or playing lower rank means you don’t lose rank BS. In fact, you should lose 2 ranks or more for losing a lower rank game.

Should also lose 10 ranks at Sunday reset. Need to continuously prove you’re #1 after all.

How do you calculate skill in this match?

I’ve had a clutch on 38:30, but the truth is:

  1. I got lucky. Most of these clutches require luck and AI director being more lenient than usual. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional.

  2. Psyker played really well and took the heat off me while I revived everyone. They went down, but they killed most of the enemies on their own. Are they a bad player for going down there? No. In fact, they were the strongest player in this match. So in your system, does the game place me in the same lobby as this Psyker? Because I don’t think we play on an equal level, but I still consider myself a strong player.

  3. I’ve a made a couple of critical stupid mistakes that might have costed us this run. So 10% of the match matter more than 90%? If I carry a Havoc by my plays, but make one mistake and my team instantly folds at the moment, am I at fault for playing badly or is my team? This is why derank is stupid. It punishes good players THE MOST.

  4. Ogryn in Havoc right now is the weakest class. They can stack all the damage blessings and talents and still deal the lowest damage on the team. They also struggle against ranged units the most, and require their team’s support to deal with them. Which means Ogryn can carry only good teammates to victory who kill stuff. If people are not killing anything while Ogryn creates space for them, why should good Ogryn players get punished by your system? You can do everything right as Ogryn, but THE ONE TIME you don’t taunt EVERY SINGLE ENEMY, your teammates instantly fold because they had no enemies around them.

Yes, that’s right. I completely forgot about that

This isn’t true in my experience. Usually the overpowered weapons / abilities make the game dull because these allow us to ignore all mechanics this game has to offer.

And huge part of the community will be hostile towards “bad, h40 elitists who want to ruin this game by nerfing the fun out of it”. This is usually what I get for suggesting nerfs to ds4.

I’ll do you something better. You should die in real life if you lose Havoc match.

Game should remove havoc ranks and true levels for eating overheads and poxbursters. Turn darktide into pvp by killing your teammates that were going for buster push.

Turn on friendly fire too. Can’t have any smykers or gold toughness spammers running around.

My experience playing as Ogryn is completely different. Last season, playing specifically as Ogryn, I completed the Rank 21 mission (and it was the first and so far the only time I managed to do it, even as the Arbites with the dog, I couldn’t). The balance regarding Ogryns hasn’t changed since then (only Hive Scum was added). And by the way, playing as Ogryn back then, I went through four consecutive Damnation missions without being knocked down once. To beat that achievement and not get knocked out once in five consecutive Damnation missions, I only managed to do it by playing as a Zealot with DS with a fatmangus-like build

lmao

MrE moment

The balance regarding Ogryns hasn’t changed since then (only Hive Scum was added).

You don’t know what you’re talking about. They received multiple nerfs after their rework (bleed, damage reduction from a couple talents, attack speed), on top elite’s HP being increased, which made most Ogryn oneshot builds pointless (shovel, branx, knife 3-hit Crusher combo).

So why not just play Ogryn in Havoc, if they are so strong?

Surely with a shield Ogryn you can easily beat Havoc 21 mission that you now struggle with.

I’m moving my setup to the cemetery . Please hire a stealth bomber and gas my funeral as I want to be buried the way died: infinite tox bombers and silent Bursters. Maybe add in a chick in a gimp suit if there’s still money left.

More like common sense moment. The real “L moment” is anyone thinking Zealot is the weakest class in Havoc, and not Ogryn.

You play Ogryn on Havoc 40 or you just don’t like MrE?

Because I play all roles in Havoc, and I have a good grasp on the pulse of how good they are.

Ogryn is the weakest class doesn’t mean all Ogryn players are bad, it just means that in Havoc’s balancing Ogryn struggles the most without the support from their team.

Yes

Yes

Ogryn has infinite toughness, stagger for days, taunt and solid melee dps. This class isn’t the weakest on h40, because there isn’t a single class that’s the weakest on h40. If you need something to point as underperforming, we can discuss how certain builds, abilities, keystones or weapons don’t pass the test of time, but saying EVERYTHING on Ogryn is bad is simply false.

All of that was done before the Bound of Duty update. And I was playing after it

Because playing as Ogryn is too different from playing as everyone else, so I believe that playing as Ogryn doesn’t teach you how to play the others at all. For the same reason, I also gave up playing as the Arbites with the dog

I think what you’re describing is the duality of the average lazy player.
When it comes to havoc modes and game mechanics → “pls nerf! it kills the fun of the game”
When it comes to OP weapons and abilities → “omg no, you’re ruining the only fun I could have”

That said, before someone dismisses me as an “elitist pr1ck”, I mostly play H40 with randoms and I do also lose as many games as I win, with some days being worse than others. I know how unhappy or even mad it can sometimes make you feel.
However, that doesn’t stop me from enjoying a game mode exactly because it’s punishing, challenging and hard

“Strong” players have no need of protection from “weak” players  if they do, they’re not as “Strong” as they think they are, especially in a coop PvE game.

More to the point, bad teammates are inherently and fundamentally part of the experience, just as much as the enemies are. The Rejects aren’t some crack elite commando team, even when admitted to the Warband they’re the lowest ranking members who’ve gotten there through simple survival and are still utterly disposable assets drawn from former prisoners. Neither insanity nor incompetence are disqualifying factors, the 40k universe and Darktide itself literally constantly scream messages to the player about how Zeal and blind Faith are the most powerful weapons available, in a setting where the deliberate wastage of human life in performative displays of suicidal loyalty is openly celebrated as valuable in and of itself, while openly and directly disdaining reason and logic.

Dealing with a gibbering idiot of a teammate who’s only made it there through having a brain too small for doubt (or to get in the way of a bullet) is just as much part of the game as dealing with that pack of Ragers running at you.

Finally, with a system like OP is describing, the very top tiers of players are going to quickly find that assembling parties becomes…even more difficult. The top upper crust of players is not just better but way better than most people can or will ever hope to be, and once you start gatekeeping to the level being described here even among high Havoc players, matchmaking is going to become increasingly difficult and time consuming. If you’re only going to match with maybe a couple dozen other people on the server, you’d better hope everyone’s wanting to play at the same time.

Wherever did I say they’re bad? You’re putting words in my mouth.

They are the weakest compared to every other class, because of how Havoc works. And they rely on good teamwork the most. That’s what I said.

You see, saying ‘the worst h40 class’ very often is a call for buffs. This game suffers terribly from power creep and the update they buffed Ogryn and introduced havoc was one of the biggest leaps in this process.

Ogryn doesn’t need buffs because it’s a totally valid h40 class. Since it’s a valid h40 class, it doesn’t make sense to call it the weakest h40 class.

The whole gunlugger tree might need some alterations in design to find its place in low ammo scenarios, but other than this, this class is as effective in dealing damage and mitigating it as every other.

And yeah, this class also has disadvantages, but all good design should have some sort of opportunity cost, otherwise everything would become duelling sword IV.

just make it matchmaking the party finder is to long winded for that mode party finder should be for groups of people that want to make friends add to there friends list not a game mode like havoc. it should be like auric in the sense yes people play threat levels above themselfs not saying thats a bad thing thats how peps gitgud but on auric you might go through 10 peps quiting but better players spawn in thats a big prob with havoc you get one that quits or even worst 2 or 3 then the mission is cast no respawn. before u get ahead of yourself n think you r sum kind av hero cause you havoc 40 ive seen peps havoc 40 struggle on heresy and damnation….
