Won’t going to argue tastes, if you like it then good for you (Emperor knows it’s not good for me ). All I’ll say is that I don’t have a problem with lack of realism, I actually find sliding and turning around hilarious. What annoys me is that much of Darktide’s gameplay requires me to do that slide over and over and over; otherwise I will get shot and die. It’s grating.
Yeah i got to agree with this. Its definitely fun/cool to slide around so if it needs some adjustments on tracking then so be it but removing sliding from the game would just be a downgrade for me personally.
To be fair - in many games (at least when I play vet) it goes a littly in that direction - once I kill 1-3 shooters in a group, the rest goes to cover. I switch to another shooter group still in the open and they go to cover. Enmies in covver are far less aggressive and the rest of the team has more freedom of movement. Any class can pull that off of course - but vet is best suited to do so.
Yet if actually noone shoots at the shooters they are free to agressively ravage the strike team.
It’s definitely not going away. We know this, because in Closed Beta they were reacting to the Dodge-mania feedback people gave on Combat Blade and few other weapons. They ended up nerfing the weapons instead with a hard limit on dodge and gave a long explanation to go with it. Essentially saying they don’t want to lower the skill ceiling and they don’t want to nerf dodge itself, they just want to prevent rushing through the map like Sonic.
Yeah, I don’t remember that patch nor that explanation but it just feels like slide dodge is too integral to the game and won’t ever be removed. Maybe they’ll nerf enemy riflemen instead (I know they already have but to me that felt like almost no change), then we won’t have to do it 24/7 and people like me won’t be annoyed anymore.
I’m sure it will never be implemented, but I think re-working the stamina, sprinting, and sliding systems could help this game with melee vs. ranged situations.
I think sprinting while you have stamina should give you ranged-stun-immunity, it should give you a ranged-damage-reduction-modifier, and the slide should be on like a 3 second cooldown so that it’s less spammable but moves you farther and faster.
Now stamina/stamina regen/sprinting/sliding feel more strategic and immersive
It was this patch in Open Beta: 1.0.7 Update - Expanded Patch Notes (Balance & Tweaks)
Summary
Dodge tweak pass to remove kite-ability and edge-case slowdowns
-Removed linger time vs. ranged attacks (was 0.2s extra after dodge finished)
-Tuned dodge curves to maintain a slower end of curve to disallow chain-dodge move
speeds above sprinting (no kiting for you)
-Limited speed mods to only scale speeds above normal movement speed to ensure
low-rolled mobility weapons don’t get stuck in place
I don’t find the comment right now that was later issued, but I believe that comment was made by Hedge or one of the Devs because there was a lot of backlash to this patch. Maybe it was in the Steam Forums?
Regardless, they slightly buffed dodges again the following patch, but didn’t bring them back to their former glory: Community Update #3: Pre-Weekend Status - 1.0.8 Update
Summary
Balance Adjustments
Setup separate weapon-specific dodge curves for light melee weapons, tune-up
separate zealot baseline:
-Setup separate dodge curve for Zealot class, increase baseline dodge distance to 2.75m over 0.4s (was 2.5m over 0.4s).
-Increase dodge slide friction speed threshold to 5.5m/s (from 4.5) - we don’t break down as hard on dodge-sliding.
-Setup weapon specific curves for agile dodge profiles to allow customized behavior:
-For Atrox Tactical Axes and Maccabian Duelling Swords: Custom curve 2.75m over 0.35s with fine-tuned end of curve for chaining.
-For Catachan Mk III Combat Blade: Custom curve 2.9m over 0.35s with fine-tuned end of curve for chaining.
Anyway, Dodge nerfs and changes are through. I think they would have rebalanced it further back then, if they were unhappy with the current state of things.
I am not sure. They rebalanced dodge and stagger in VT2 a couple years (or more) after. Hard to really say one way or the other.
Yeah when they nerfed dodging in VT2, you would’ve thought it was the end of the world! Same with stagger stages and talents (think this was right when WoM released?)
That’s why grenades exist, you’ll have a much harder time with shooters if you aggro everything in sight before your teammates can line up to nuke the patrols with bleed grenades/stun grenades.
And thank goodness. Because they are right.
