I don't like current state of DT / Do you ? / SURVEY

Perhaps I am the only one, but I find the current state of DT the worst in recent history.

I play mostly Auric Mealstorm or Havoc (Did reach 40 during 1st “season”, afterwards party finder discouraged me to try or simply didn’t get chances to try… #Denied)

The game is not fun, too much stuff on the screen, and most of it doesn’t die. Endlessly surrounded by groaners/poxes, body blocks, 1 mistake and you’re dead = run fails. It’s just so taxing on focus and eyes as well. I am not having fun cause it feels like I am WORKING. The game requires more focus than my normal job. You blink, you die… (game lacks breaks in between waves)

Whiners won and the game is ruined at least for me… Class’s power level is a mess. They have all been brought to mid-level unless you are playing very specific builds, not changing a single talent. Same with weapons, even less viable options, even less fun to use options

Upon game release, I was Vet main. Now I despise the class even with this “Rework/Rebalance” gameplay SUCKs. Vet is more melee than range class, it’s more Vermintide 2… Shoot once, hack and slash 100 times to shoot again once

Please, fellow rejects, take a moment to answer this little survey

I put “Not worth the effort” of havoc because of party finder and low player count when I play. I’ve tried and failed several times to find matches and now I just do other stuff.

It might be nice to clarify that option, since it could be construed as ‘not worth the effort to play an elevated difficulty’. If that’s the intended implication than I’ll update my tally accordingly!

Same.

Also, what is “recently” in the havoc rank question? Got my 40 in seasons 1&2 before deciding it was no longer worth the effort.

Not worth effort means reward and enjoynment is lacking compary how much you have to try hard to get in, and try hard to win

recently like last month or so

now i want to start with

is usually the pace i´m going for.

pvp, 1on1, “everything except amphetamine”, if my k/d today is worse than yesterday i kill myself-days are gone

AND i miss them to be honest.

but here comes darktide, quick gameplay, fluid physics and stuff that rewards reflexes, aim, movement etc.

right at home.

40k atmosphere, cherry on top, if i die and can pick “paradise”, 40k is where its at :face_with_tongue:

BUT, despite it being a “coop game” the thing i care about is my journey, my progress, my performance, egoist at its core i know and i got now problem admitting it.

now usually the game lets you play “your way”, mates fk up no biggie, you got the skills you pick em up, dust em off and on you go.

or after the umpteenth time of carrying the sandbag around you leave him in the dirt and let him figure out (hopefully) the margin of his “out of league-being”

up until auric maelstrom its a pretty free for all with no one caring about builds/loadouts etc and frankly i play my vet 95%ranged “reinwichsend” with the new bolter and the team is not worse off cause i get stuff killed a dime a dozen.

plus, compared to havoc ammo is plenty so very few situations has mates or me red.

am i forced into melee…. sure, if :poop: hits the fan you need to switch, its only natural and healthy for the gameplay.

horde clear anyways is a melee job and its pretty well done in the game so its fun.

then again, main class and first love is and will always be ogryn, so melee comes naturally and is the bread and butter of nice, cinematic scenes in my recordings.

on comes havoc with its corset and everything changes.

am i able to clear havoc 40, yep.

have i cleared havoc 40 with randoms and non meta builds, yep.

do i enjoy waiting and applying to teams? you kidding me ?

the fun part is starting a match and winning not WITH but DESPITE randoms.

sure, if anyone clicks its a beauty to behold and quite enjoyable.

but lets be honest, the best feeling ?

clutch and carry and show how its done, no one can tell me with a straight face he´s all altruistic and plays without ego…. no one.

and if it´s within certain “limits” it´s definitely healthy in terms of a successful outcome of a match, hence beneficial for everyone including those getting carried.

so havoc having this hardwired concept of being for “premades” when few afford the luxury of keeping a premade, let alone know 3 others pleasant enough to deal/play with, that are on the same skill level is what puts me off, playing purely with randoms in terms of havoc 40 no less.

if havoc was available in every condition and “level” without demotions, i´d play it the same amount as auric maelstrom.

way it is now sadly would have me waste couple hours a day to produce maybe one or two havoc 40s to show for

OR

get 10+ sweaty carries and clutches in auric maelstrom that, in my opinion, are equally enjoyable to watch.

so you get 3 guesses what choice i pick.

I wonder if there’s a disconnect between those who play havoc with a 4-player group and those that have to deal with the party finder.

I’m lucky enough to have a group of 4 so I haven’t had to deal with the party finder. Derank is still annoying but Havoc is a lot of fun for my group.

I did like the earlier versions slower/tactical game play though. I wish there was more of a place for more ranged game play. The sprint slide flopping like a fish is a bit silly.

You can thank diehard Vermintide fans for that, who force their views on the game instead of playing the game they think is superior to Darktide, leaving everyone else to enjoy a different gameplay loop and ideas of Darktide.

At this point playing melee Vet is easier than playing ranged marksman builds lol.

***

Though I still enjoy the game playing all game modes, even Mortis Trials are fun to me.

Where it comes to Havoc, it’s a cool and rewarding gamemode when you play with a good team who cover each other, and it’s the worst thing ever when you teammates play selfishly or don’t know how to play it properly.

from someone who has dealt with this dreaded thing every season now (current not including for “reasons”)

night and day difference.

then again hard to find people on the same page, given buddy pirx and me don’t hold back and sugarcoat :poop: when it comes to callouts and cussing.

so random and mic off it is then in a “hit or miss” until something sticks.

upside is having a 2000+ now char with every “tag” that spells “suitable” its usually hitting 5 or 6 havoc 40 teams at the season start, get the crap over with and back to business.

ironically, day shift auric maelstrom is a lot “harder” than a clicking havoc 40 team with everyone knowing his sheet AND it gives you almost 100% autonomy from what stoner-joe and six pack-harry does.

thus makes for some nice clutches havoc doesn’t offer usually.

it’s either swoop or wipe there

Funny how this survey seems mostly being about Havoc and whether or not you enjoy it - while the topic’s name assumes it’s about general state of the game. As if DT == Havoc. Kinda tells you a lot about how “representative” the forums (of any game) are. I’m pretty sure most DT players don’t care about Havoc that much, if at all.

Me personally, I don’t like the state of the game for only one reason: there is nothing to do in here, for an average, unassuming player like me. No long-term, sensible grind goals, no illusion of being part of this universe (comparing to what Helldivers do, where it looks like you are a part of dynamic ongoing campaign, with plot advancing every few weeks), no semblance of sense of me doing all those missions again and again, even within the game’s lore, it isn’t explained in a slightest why do I go clearing the same smelting complex 10 times a week. It’s kinda shallow and unrewarding experience. The one that makes you go “nah” each time you think that may be you should start the game and play a couple of matches. Like, for what purpose?

Exe stance helbore is one of the strongest builds in the game. Extremely easy to play in the typical meta team comps with taunt ogryns, bubble purg, chorus/shout spam. You one shot everything but maulers and crushers.

havoc is miserable right now with derank being terrible, party finder being a massive waste of time and disconnects/crashes but otherwise the game is peak

havoc 20-25 feels really fun to me

I have played this game since BETA and even after all the changes and reworks it’s still one of my favorite games, they have done so many improvements and additions to the game and to mechanics.

I can miss the times where I played a Veteran as a marksman and i could clear the ranged threat while the Zealot and Ogryn killed the melee threat and the Psyker was popping specials heads, the roles where more defined and the game felt more “tactical”.

This game is so good at it’s core and offers so many options when my “main” isn’t as fun to play as it was in earlier patches but the remedied that a bit with the latest patch to be honest.

The only reason I don’t play Havoc is that it’s too much of a hassle to get into a game. Every minute I spend waiting to find a team is time I’d rather spend actually playing.

One of the game mechanics that is disappearing more is the “coherency mechanic”. It was more prominent in the earlier stages and was the one of the main factors why i liked Darktide so much more than Vermintide 1 & 2.

It’s still there but since the individual player has gotten over all more powerful you do not need to rely on your teammate as much and i think that affects how people play.

which isn’t per se a bad thing in my book given the vast majority of players being in over their heads and are simply nothing to be relied upon at any time in a match.

having the luxury of a premade with equally skilled specimen negates that of course, but I wager most have to deal with randoms if they want to play at their schedule.

so randoms and relying doesnt go well in my experience

I enjoy the gameplay of havoc but absolutely detest the ranking system…so I chose not worth the effort so as not to give FS the wrong impression. Auric is too easy though and the good stuff in havoc is hidden behind a lucky dip.

Gameplay-wise, it’s still the game I crave to play the most. But that means I also crave more content and the anemic molassus delivery is like pulling teeth.

I want more of everything, especially maps/biomes. Something really new to freshen up the vibe.

I think they should add a high havoc difficulty above auric on the normal board so that those of us who just want to play that challenge can do so freely and happily accept the quickplay style…and let the grinders keep the grim havoc ranking if they desire.

New biomes and maps will keep my mind off all the other gripes the longest though. So few map releases which is a shame as the last few they have released have been totally banging. Oh and a proper map selection screen…with all the maps and modifiers. This nanny hand holding doesn’t belong in DT.

Relatively speaking I’m happy with the game, relative to how it used to be that is.

Launch Darktide was quite frankly utter garbage, the game was rough until the crafting overhaul. A lot of progress has been made since then, even if it was mostly cleaning up the mess and spending a baffling amount of time on dead on arrival game modes.

The game has definitely had an identity shift since launch but at least every class gets to have fun now with the shooting aspect toned down. Melee combat is the speciality of “Tide” games ultimately.

Darktide is the only CO-OP Left 4 Dead like game that has this mechanic (that I know of).

My point with the coherency mechanic being not as relevant and player power being higher is.

It’s a mechanic that rewards playing as a team.

Is it gonna remove the randomness of randoms, no.

But i have played this game solo on quickplay 90% of the time and randoms who get rewarded for playing with their team is better than randoms who doesn’t.

If your teammates are important for your survival you are gonna be more inclined to play as a team and stick in coherence to help and to receive help if you stick together you make more and take less damage.

When you do not need to rely on your team you are more inclined to run of on your own and not be as aware about your team mates.

That’s my theory

Haven’t played this update too much because of Rotten Armor. They want to buff carapace then spam even more of it at us I can’t be assed playing tbh, familiarity fatigue is hitting way too hard.
