How to stop players from spam sliding

That’s because of enemy spam that spawns 20 gunners in Havoc.

Again, the fear of change. "You want to make the sliding mechanic feel worse” No I’m not, I just don’t want to allow players to infinitely slide. If the enemy spam would be removed the infinite slide would break the game. Both of these issues need to be resolved in one update to truly improve upon the game.

Dodges while quite OP in DT atleast have limit and a penalty in the form of inneficient dodges.

Tho dodges need some ajustements aswell, so block and shove will become a thing.

It’s not “chicken vs egg” problem. Because it wasn’t like that on release, aside from weird stuff like if there was lasgun vet in the team then game were spawning only dreg shooters almost.

You typed that out like ranged weaponry does not exist in DT. You can shoot ranged enemies if you can’t dodge their attacks. You forgot about that because ranged combat is heavily discouraged in current DT. I am making a suggestion that would make it more viable since you would no longer be able to run around with your melee out 24/7.

You do realise you can’t stay in the dodge state forever only because you spam it?

With shorter distance wich is crucial on some stuff like evi or flamer. Or you need to jump to reset the limit. But the most important is dodge doesn’t give you momentum.

While with slide you can rush and it costs nothing. Can you rush with dodges, sidestepping like a crab? You can’t.

WHile true, things like infinite sliding only add more problems to the pile.

You’re again not ackowleding that I advocate to both remove enemy spam and also make it so you can’t infinitely slide. FS needs to make both of these changes all in one update to make it work.

And I counter with go play Call of Duty, Battlefield 6 or any other FPS game where shooting people with guns is your desired form of combat. There are also weapons within Darktide that do support the ‘shoot all the enemies with guns’ play style, and many that don’t, because again this is a melee focused game where range is your skill expression of multi-tasking to biff an incoming special mid melee combat and nothing more.

I mean you suggestion is literally to make it feel worse so I don’t get why you’re trying to deny it here.

Ofc people would fear change when what you’re trying to change is 3 years worth of muscle memory.

That’s the thing. DT was supposed to be both a melee and ranged focused game. What we have now is a result of giving us talent trees, making enemy spam and throwing balance out of the window. DT shouldn’t be VT 2 where you only use your ranged weapons to get rid of specialists.

when the game came out they put 50 million ambient shooters in each room and half of them were cultists that didn’t care about any of the game’s mechanics. that was also why veteran was playing 4 difficulties below everyone else.

It will cost your life if you assume you can just spam your way into a victory in Auric or Havoc if the an open area is full of elite gunners. Even with trash shooters you will start losing toughness, if you get shot at in between the actual slides.

If you want to argue about the details in wording, then what I said was: I want sliding to be effective for a temporary amount of time after which it becomes ineffective and then it feels worse.

Change is neccessary for the healthy lifecycle of the game. If that means getting used to the fact that we can’t infinitely slide, or be unkillable with Gold Toughness, spam abilities because of how many elites and specialists spawn, then let it be so.

And for that how much gunners and shooters they need to spawn? A whole arena.

The problem with slide that it’s both movement and damage avoidence mechanic that has no limitation aside form button mashing speed, and again unlike dodge it’s carrying the momentum. And then you turn off ranged enemy ai just by being close.

How can you make so ranged enemies could stop that? You can’t, so here are 40 000 gunners. And to address that you take much damge inbetween the slides here is your golden toughness/dome spam.

No, I literally have no idea why, me saying that enemy spam did not exist since the release of the game is me “not being able to deduce a cause-and-effect relationship between two events or variables solely on the basis of an observed association or correlation between them”.

In fact, I actually did the exact opposite in this thread by pointing out how enemy spam and things like Gold Toughness are inherently connected to one another. “Players use Gold Toughness to become unkillable? Spam 15 Bulwarks/Crushers so they can actually be hurt by the AI director”.

The same goes for spam sliding being connected with enemy spam. “Players can constantly avoid ranged attacks, so the ranged enemies have a very small time window to hurt us? Spam 40 Gunners, that will solve the issue.”

I’m not afraid of change, i don’t want a valued feature of the game removed. Just like index, if there was 1 thing FS could do right now to get me to walk away instantly, it’s remove what small movement tech this game has.

That’s called people having different opinions, not fearing yours.

You could always slide in the game, and it does not make you unkillable, whatever in melee or at range. End of.

Sliding already requires from you to have momentum, whatever gained by dodging or movement. Restricting slide would likely just push the game further into the direction it doesn’t belong. Tide is not a cover shooter or a shooter centric experience. The game has been always about movement. You are not adding to that experience by restricting slides.

To claim that spamming sliding is behind enemy spam in higher difficulties like Havoc is the “wildest” take I have seen on this forum. I’m going to step out from this thread, before I end up being the reason why this gets locked. :joy:

Hell, they even nerfed EFL because slide wasn’t doing enough to protect you from insta-deaths in 1.0.
