Pretty much all of the issues that ogryn has which make him irredeemably worse than other classes are a result of hidden mechanics listed by „Royale with Cheese“:
By far the most important issue that Ogryn has is his dodges. In particular melee dodge linger window (250ms less duration of the „dodge state“ than all other classes), longest dodge cooldown of all classes, no damage reduction when hit during dodge state.
^This needs to be adjusted. ^This is what makes ogryn extremely clunky and far more vulnerable than he should be even in melee.
Furthermore Ogryn has some fairly grueling hitbox issues against close targets in particular. Enemies can clip into him which makes ogryn miss against targets at point blank range. If youve ever missed a push against a dog or a burster at close range with full stamina - ^this is why.
^This makes him far less useful when fighting in situations with extremely limited space – a situation where he should excel.
Toughness is infinitely more valuable than health especially with heavily blessing dependent toughness regen on weapons that ogryn has.
^He needs more than this to contest ranged trash OR a talent that increases his DR against ranged in particular.
Stamina regeneration is much more valuable than starting stamina – Ogryn has the second worst stamina regeneration.
^These values should be increased.
^Fixing these would significantly increase his overall viability but he still suffers against ranged specials. He could really use at least one tool to contest those.
Id like to suggest a rumbler buff here:
Make the rumbler able to reach 1 shot headshot breakpoints (maybe with perk against flak) against ranged human sized specials on damnation. As of right now, an optimal Rumbler will only kill if the explosive drops extremely close after direct headshot hit which does not actually happen most of the time.
Long reload time, poor damage on a small aoe and fairly limited range due to projectile drop will ensure that the weapon doesnt end up useful for much else.
The grenade talent should be baseline OR he should have a much larger pool of boxes (the grenade talent could be nerfed in that case). Not a new take but it really should be.
The character has a good number of other problems like how poor the shield is while somehow being a fairly popular option, how all of his ranged options are just significantly below average compared to other classes, his DR and health both being pretty much irrelevant, non fucntioning talents/bad talents and so on…
but i am convinced the suggested fixes would make him a lot more viable and a lot less frustrating to play on damnation in particular.
