turn it into a two-handed weapon and watch the heretics fly
What the Paul does, the new Shovels do 10 times better.
I love you Mk XIX, my perfect little mixture of Paul and old Shovel
Hey, if weāve given the Ogryn a Frag Football, why not a Power Baseball Bat?
True but the new shovels are seriusly broken and they and they will probably be nerfed in the next balance pass.
I consider the mark XIX compleatly useless in front of the V, the heavy attack pattern of the XIX is compleatly useless at the moment since I 1shot evrything with the special heavy, with the markV i can use the heavys for horde clear, being able to get more stacks of Heavy Hitter and recharging more toughness.
Btw, consider this, if the Paul damage gets buffed of +20% and gets the ability to oneshot crushers with special attacks it becomes virtually identical to the Shovel MarkV
I think a video of paul rocking in damnation+ is in order!
I think it kinda sucks compared to other options but Iāve been wrong before.
The Mk XIXās not āuselessā compared to the Mk V, itās simply just suited to a different play style than yours and thatās perfectly fine. I find the Mk XIX is the perfect pal to the Mk VII Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber because one weapon absolutely DESTROYS the big boys whilst the other does the same to hordes of smaller enemies.
The Mark V does exactly the same to big boys than the XIX while doing better job to hordes and smaller enemies. Not a big deal you can play what you want how you want, iām just pointing out the mark V has more options.
Here are a couple of clips from 2 games I recorded in damnation+ for the occasion, I was playing like an ass trying to get ahead of my teammates to solo the horde , (other guys were random and i didnāt want to bother them asking to adapt their playstyle because of me) as you can see in the first clip i even trigger 2 times the ārampageā voicelines.
Imo it would fit better with a horizontal hit on powered light attack too
Maybe we can have a different mark with a moveset like this.
Btw powered heavy attack is perfectly usable in horde, when Mauler, Crushers, ragers⦠appear in the horde I use loyal protector and start spamming Heavy attacks, it creates a lot of space for the team, I feel like an Ironbraker on steroids.
Thanks for that⦠thereās a bit of teamwork there muddying the waters, but thatās a lot more evidence than has been provided to defame paul. How do you feel about paul compared to the shield? To me theyāre pretty similar if you continue with the H2 sweep on the shield, but doing H1 on the shield over and over seems to kinda predictably gib/drive horde in a specific direction, also staggering or knocking down everything that walks, while giving the option of reactively disabling (block taunting) shooters mid-volley. Kinda similar?
Regardless, thanks again for supporting your argument with these videos.
Itās a bit hard to have a clear showcase in T5+ mission, I tried to find the moments with the least interference from teamates as possible, but Iām glad if it can shine a bit of light on what Paulās potential is.
The shield is my least played ogrin weapon, mainly because of personal taste: i donāt like how much of your screen it covers, so my opinion may not be correct, but i consider it not great and inferior to the Paul.
Its biggest flaw is a very bad mobility, only 2 dodges and very short range, it true that it ācompensatesā with the super strong push and can block a lot of hits, but that is not gonna help me against trappers, flamers, bombers, mutantsā¦
Really itās horde clear is mediocre, to my knowledge you canāt get a reliable 1HSBP on poxwalkers sweep like with the Paul so his horde clears depends on his damage profile and the bleed (that anyway with blessing skullcrusher IV amounts to around 100 damage for each enemy). Armor penetration is aslo far from excellent.
Its special attack is passive, passive is bad, the only time that I can imagine this bringing value to the team is tanking a DH, otherwise you are better off dealing damage. With Paul, if you taunt and use the special attack you also deal damage and debuff enemies. With shield special you are just a target.
Blocking ranged fire and shooters taunt is nice, but honestly doesnāt compensate for the downsides listed before, and again, you can argue that taking out a gun and killing them may be a better option.
If you are still interested I was able to record a few seconds without any teamplay involved, enjoy:
Copying over my same answer i put in another tread that was asking for a power weapon rework also:
The gameplay of constantly charging the activated weapons Over and OVER again feels SO bad. The biggest example being power maul for ogryn. While uncharged the power maul is easily the worst weapon in the game at the moment, and having to charge it every single swing while it slows you down to a halt is terrible game design.
They need to rework the powering up design entirely, as well as the fact that it needs to get the same treatment as the ācrusherā got for zealot.
There are a few different ideas that could work much better than the current system its crazy to me that they ended up with what they chose.
-
Having it being a charged up state for a duration (or number or hits) after activation and then after you run out, having either a cooldown, or get melee hits to power it up again
-
They could have it as a toggle where when you power it on, it hits harder, slightly more stagger or cleave, but swings slower, then when you power it off it swings faster, has more finesse, etc.
-
They could even remove the special action button all together and having it work where the heavy attacks automatically power up the weapon and the longer you charge the heavy attack the stronger the swing will be with more damage, cleave, stagger, etc.
The gameplay right above your post is literally it killing 5 things per swing with uncharged attacks LOL.
Thanks for your posts @Vodhawak. I honestly hadnāt considered how BM changes + head priority would affect Paulās horde clear. Def gonna pick it back up next time Iām playing Ogryn and make sure I have BM to see how it feels overall.
Lol yeah, I watched the vid and my point still stands, its still the worst weapon in the game in the uncharged state, your comments dont really change that
You said uncharged attacks are useless. Lotta things with worse horde clear rate than that so donāt know what youāre on.
So the weapon has:
- Debatably best CC in the game
- Respectable to good horde clear rate
- Pretty decent Ogryn elite damage while being probably the safest melee to fight them with
- Easy bulwark shield open
- Passable mobility (better than shield which is the most comparable weapon for CC potential)
Also you can just slide/dodge through the special activation slowdown it barely counts as a real downside itās so easy to circumvent.
Yāall anti Paul folks need to bring your A game because I was on the fence/leaning towards Paul needs help when entering this thread but the evidence for it being fine here is so overwhelmingly better than any evidence presented itās bad Iām on board with Paul is fine now.
Idk with bleeds shield clears hordes really well. Also chain staggers crushers at least on the melee build.
Really trivializes anything melee in general, and with the taunt on block talent you can get shooters to walk at you as well.
My opinion of shield is the completely opposite of your opinion. If anything I find it too strong since outside of its bad mobility its kind of a catch all melee weapon whose downsides can be completely patched up with Rocks, or Kickback.
If bleed wasnāt in the picture then I could see it having some damage issues which is fair considering its defensive nature, but bleed is here, and its real f*cking strong.
EDIT: I do agree that Power Maul is probably fine though. Your game clips have changed my mind on it.
The Mk III Cleaver wouldāve gotten the job done in half the time and you wouldnāt have taken any damage (seriously, itās broken)
Sure now try fighting a group of crushers with BB vs Paul. You might find the difference there even more stark.
