Have been playing around with the Fashion Randomizer and am consequently just wondering how many variants of the “standard” Guardsman helmet have been modeled for the game, exactly. So far, we apparently have:
Graia-pattern/Navis Imperialis Carapace model
Seems to be the standard pattern, as far as the game is concerned, having by far the most variants and featuring as the Vet’s headgear of choice in all advertising for the game. Apparently much sturdier than it is comfortable (although the Antax-pattern rebreather apparently works wonders).
Agripinaa-pattern Flak model
Apparently a lighter-weight option with improved visibility compared to some, the goggles, enlarged ear-modules and interior leather “Snoopy-Cap” give it something of the look of a vehicle crewman’s headgear (also available in Cadian shock-pattern camo).
“Space Marine 2” pattern
A visibly “up-armoured” model seemingly following the design of the Guardsmen’s helmets as seen in the Space Marine 2 trailer.
“Tac-Light” pattern
Looks very similar to the “Space Marine 2” model with “up-armour” segment removed and replaced with a lamp pack.
“Vanguard” Flak pattern
Seems to be the Imperium’s version of the Ops Core FAST helmet (or the Pro-Tec helmets worn by special operations forces in the 1990s): basically, a stripped-down, low-profile version of the normal Guardsman’s helmet intended, for spec-ops use (note the attached ski-mask).
Is the Agrinipaa Flak pattern the base design that the really scuffed helmets are based off of? 2 of the premium cosmetics and the new Kriegs helmet I believe? Or are the based off of the standard helmet?
Yeah i’d love a classic masked guardsman helmet, I’d love some more simple cosmetics in general that follow table top models and don’t have some sort of “exotic” red tiger stripe camo or other stuff that’s not fitting the enivorenment
There aren’t any Death Korps helmets in the game, but I thought the last helmet as part of the nrw penances for Guardsmen was called a “Krieg Helmet.” I’m not referring to the Nox Helms, I thought there were also a pair of premium vet helmets that had chainmail and a bunch of leather straps attached to them.
Id absolutely love this or a full Kasrkin set. I would’ve considered buying the Bullgryn armor if the camo didn’t look absolutely awful in an urban setting.
From what I’ve seen in Fashion Randomizer it seems like most of the cosmetics have plain green, red, black, blue or brown base-types in addition to the various camo patterns.
Ah, I know what you mean now. You’re referring to this helmet pattern:
Oddly, this one doesn’t appear to be based on an existing WH40K helmet pattern at all (that I’m aware of), but rather seems to be more or less directly copied from the WWII-era U.S. M38 Armoured Crewman’s helmet:
I’m just going with the different variants on the basic Cadian-style helmet, which has a precedent of some pretty wildly-varying styles in artwork (whether these are actual differing patterns or just artistic interpretation is somewhat ambiguous):
This one comes from the box-art of the old Cadian Shock troops set and could probably be considered the “standard” representation: reinforced brow-ridge, defined cheek-guards, ear-modules set high on the helmet (it doesn’t quite match the design of the helmets on the actual models, though, which notably lack the brow ridge and have ear-modules that run from the level of the winged skull to almost the bottom of the helmet).
Older codex artwork? Anyway, this is an interesting example, looking like a larger helmet relative to the soldier’s head and featuring some very large ear-modules but seeming to lack the cheek-guards and occipital box of other depictions (but missing the reinforced brow).
From Dawn of War, a more streamlined version; no brow ridge, scaled-down winged skull and smaller ear-modules
From the Only War TTRPG from a few years ago. A somewhat bulbous, almost top-heavy-looking example with enlarged, very boxy ear-modules and a very pronounced occipital box at the back.
A more recent example from the Cadia Stands box-set. Quite similar to Darktide’s “Graia-pattern,” featuring elongated, lozenge-shaped ear-modules and a new design element in the form of a brim (which is also featured on the current Cadian models). The cheek-guards are quite a bit more pronounced than in Darktide, however, running all the way up to just below the level of the wearer’s eyes (they appear to be made of leather rather than being part of the helmet, though). In a further parallel with the Graia-pattern, this helmet seems to lack the occipital box (the included models appear to have a very minimized one).
