Hello, i would just look the devs five pence on this issue:
are hookrats allowed (in versus) to lift people into out of bounds areas?
to clarify into greater detail -
areas of which players can fall out of the map or otherwise be inescapable/instakilled
areas of which the players can be lifted to that are out of bounds but can be escaped from if the pull is incomplete
all out of bound plays are not allowed going forward
in the same vein, is it okay if - a trolls main attack is used through the walls of a building to block or inhibit progression forward, or just generally be a nuisance?
i would just like to know what the aim, and what your design was within this game mode, and settle a few disagreements the players have had moving forward.
I have tried since pvp was released to get an answer from several different devs and they always dodge the question or answer it in a way thats not clear.
Several of my friends have been temporarily banned for apparently using hookrat exploit spots like roofs where the heroes cant reach other heroes because of where they are and we have reported players for the same spots but they do not get banned because we have personally seen the same people doing it over and over again for 3+ weeks but when my friends do it back to them they are banned for using the same spots? It makes no sense.
I have also seen new players come and go because they got temporarily banned for hooking players because the heroes will end up in some dodgy spot like under/falling through the map even though these new players have almost no hours played and would not know anything about it so i dont blame them for not wanting to continue playing the game.
We’re aware that the hookrat mechanic is a painpoint for Versus at the moment, and we’re looking at possible improvements we can make to alleviate issues in future.
Regarding hookrat out of bounds shenanigans, this is our current stance:
Intentionally hooking someone in such a way that they end up inside the geometry of the map / under the map / out of map bounds is an exploit. Don’t do it.
Hooking a player so they end up in a place that’s unreachable by Heroes but reachable by Pactsworn (such as a roof), we’d rather you didn’t do it, but it’s not a bannable offense at this time.
We appreciate that there is some nuance to this, and we try to assess all reports fairly and accurately. Of course,it’s possible to hook another player and unintentionally cause them to be placed out of bounds. This is something we’re very much keeping in mind, and factors like chat history and volume of reports are considered (e.g. one incident may be unintentional, whereas several incident reports against a player can indicate more of a trend/intent to exploit the mechanic).
I work closely with player reports, and we’ve actioned bans in all cases with sufficient evidence of players abusing this exploit. If there are players using this exploit deliberately for this length of time still, it may be that the reports we’ve received haven’t included clear enough evidence. It’s difficult to say without knowing the specifics really. Please continue to report any players abusing this exploit - with videos probably being the best evidence in these cases, as we can most clearly see what happened. Thanks!
they are probably quiet about this because they havent come up with a consensus yet. if it is as polarising in a group of 5 or so friends it must be very nuanced topic of which loads of people will be dissappointed which direction they take. dont froget the legwork required to fix something like ledge pulls to death/roof pulls/troll wall smacks would near enough be a redesign of both characters. so i understand that, even if in spirit they think it shouldnt be allowed, enforcing it, would be even harder.
In the clip, there is literally 0 setup required and the heroes are forced to walk past the exact spot through the choke. That is not in any way representative of the claims you made. OOB instakills are bs and should result in a ban as well.
That entire interaction took 7 seconds, and while doing so, at any moment they could’ve prevented it. It also required the hookrat to snatch someone from only that specific angle (It’s predictable with enough gamesense)
On the other hand, bugging people out of the map just requires the hookrat to come from ANY angle, get someone on an inclination (normally, horizontal stairs), and just START hoisting (Not even full hoisting, just partly hoisting), and they get glitched
