Hey, morons

How about when you do a hotfix, you don’t dumpster all of our saved builds.

Fatshark not fail to do basic QA challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

At this point I wonder if they even have a QA staff. Seriously. Its as if their entire testing setup is having an intern load the patch onto a minimum-spec computer if it doesn’t crash the system on startup they call it good.

Though it would explain a lot of why so much of this patch is a massive pile of crap. Well that or pure malice and given their sudden attitude the past few months I’m inclined to say its mostly malice occassionally abetted by stupidity and lazieness.

I think it’s more ghost changes. Like, why would the fixes they mentioned in the patches have anything to do with load out slots? Like none of it had to do with the UI or options so what gives? Likely different things were tried on top of those fixes we are not aware of.

Or as it been before, they have bad version control and pushed with same stuff that cleansed loadout after skill tree update.

I like the Ask a GameDev blog. It has a lot of really good insights into what goes on on the other side of the industry from a devs perspective. As much as I like my Jim Sterling rage content I try to hear the other side as well.

Here is his take on how to get developers attention in order to get something done. Pro tip, calling them morons in the title will just make them skip your post entirely. I know I don’t care what a post has to say if it leads off like that.

Good article. His remarks about speaking with brevity make me laugh a bit because there have been times where I was forced to write a whole essay to describe a problem. Not because I am incapable of brevity but because the problem was the result of years of neglect and you almost needed a degree in archeology to excavate the many layers of failure. (I’m referring to the vermintide 2 bots in this case)

So on the one hand yeah, devs love concise bug reports. On the other hand if you want concise bug reports out of us you need to make sure your game has simple problems that can be solved with simple solutions. Technical debt, like confidence, is a slow and insidious killer.

“I apologize for such a long letter - I didn't have time to write a short one.”

> Mark Twain

Writing short and concise letters is hard (I suck at it). GameDev is right though that posting solutions is not helpful how alluring though it may be. We don’t know what is easy to do and what is hard. Posting problems, on the other hand, is a good way to show things from our perspective – this is what is not working for us.

So, for the loot system I might say

  • Having dozens of versions of the same gun in my inventory that I constantly have to compare makes for boring gameplay
  • Locking blessings means that I cannot experiment with various weapon builds

… but yeah, if I want a solution…

  • Winds of Magic had a great crafting system. Can we make something similar to that, but more fleshed out?

It literally takes 2 minutes to make a loadout. Who cares.

When you forget what combinations you were using of weapons with blessings, curios, and now 30 talents with experimentation you may just not remember. You would have to go and redo meat grinder tests or find out what video or link you used to make that build.

I do. There is no excuse why this should be even remotely difficult.

You don’t care about your loadouts so it takes you 2 minutes. I care about my loadouts so it takes me half an hour and I made 20 of them.

So many meme threads all of a sudden.

Interestingly, most of these points are also good for sales pitches, addressing audiences or just general conversation.

half an hour to make a single loadout?? I actually memorized the majority of my loadouts, it wasn’t that difficult. They actually improved upon the second time making them.

Difficult for whom? The devs? Are you a programmer?

I actually read the descriptions meticulously and I test things in the test chamber, I don’t understand why this is something nobody else does.

Good luck with that. We’ll keep ignoring you. Nobody is going to take a random stranger on the internet seriously they start off by hurling insights. There are more than enough people, even on the internet, that can get their points across without doing that.

And here I go doing exactly what I should not be doing, speaking for other people than myself. Let me rephrase.

Never presume to be speaking for anyone but yourself.

Yup, who would have thought  .

Some people just need to put on their big boy pants and grow up, this is wild. People acting like Fatshark broke into their house, beat up their family, killed their dog and then left an invoice.

If you find yourself getting actually upset over loadouts being deleted instead of a “oh that’s annoying, oh well” then maybe go touch grass and figure something else to do with your time because this aint it chief.
