I have some suggestions/ideas for assassination target captains, separate from captains in havoc missions.
Remove the captain’s staggering when the shield is broken and make them immune to stagger while their shield is active.
Captain is also likely in need of a damage cap to their health so you can’t oneshot them anymore, maybe something like a max of 30% of their health in one hit.
Small tweaks with potentially huge changes for the fight.
I’d like the fight to be a bit more…tactical? This is supposed to be a renegade Guard officer, why not have them be directing or enhancing waves of adds, being an actual leader? Instead of just being a beefier Mauler, why not have them do things like disengage from melee when hurt, take cover, and have the Captain designate a priority target for gunners deploying on the upper gantries?
They are currently the ONLY Boss in the game who can be Taunted by Ogryn’s Taunt, please do not take that away from me . Buffing them is alright tho
I actually think this is a BUG, because the description states:
The taunt grabs all bosses’ attention but it doesn’t keep them all taunted for the full 15 seconds. The melee boss in the Twins boss fight is a boss that does get taunted for the full duration, for what it’s worth.
I taunt them only for the damage boost tbh.
The boss does a powerful knockback, never allows much actual hits due to a other knockback from the shield failing, then uses a shotgun that deletes stuff from a distance if far away. Has at least 3 powerful attacks variations with melee too.
That’s a damn but more interesting than the other bosses. Not sure what you guys have issue with?
In havoc they almost always comes paired with a monstrosity which makes them a huge pain the Auric Storm Survivor.
If anything they take too long to kill due to their ridiculous shield.
This is, in my opinion, what makes them interesting. Cause all others monstrosities die fast with krak grenades. Except in havoc, as we never see a veteran in havoc. They are busy searching ammunitions in auric missions…
There is no music when you fight them in havoc
another thing i saw on multiple encounters: he seems to lose his pathing and stands dumbfounded for a good 10-15 seconds, doing…well, nothing.
I can do that on Zealot and Veteran by just shouting at them, or Ogryn’s another Rush ult
(they become agroed because you stagger them)
Generally, I just want them to do something with that, it sucks that Taunt Basicaly doesn’t work as it should
Yeah, it’s pretty much the only reason to Taunt them at all
Eh
Even then if there is a boss around one guy will just distract him
His attacks are very easy to avoid(they’re heavily telegraphed and delayed) while the others deal with horde and the other actual threatening boss
And the when that’s dealt with everyone is able to dogpile him and beat the poor heretic into a coma.
The other bosses have things that don’t just allow to you surround them and knock them to the ground and kick them while they’re down over and over.
Plague ogryn can knock you around
Chaos spawn will grab you swing you around like a club knocking other players back and then take a bite healing from it
Beast of nurgle has corruption bile that trails out from behind it and it vomits at you that causes corruption damage and slows you down and if you’re coated it can eat you
Compared to, surround, break shield. Kick while down (preferably put bleed stacks to really speed up the process) surround, break shield, kick while down repeat until he no longer can get back up.
I play as Ogryn and literally all bosses aside from BON I just strafe and hit until dead. Zero trouble. The captain’s actually pose more of a threat and has some varied attack patterns and the push back. Bon is the only one that poses a threat imo.
It sounds like you’re fighting the captains alone with no other enemies or monstrosities? That’s pretty rare in my experience. In havoc they’re almost always accompanied by a monstrosity and a bunch of smaller enemies so all 4 players don’t have the chance to simply surround and kill…
And if they do then…so? It’s not meant to be the end boss of level 999. It’s just some added challenge. Maybe calling them bosses is the problem.
I’m pretty sure I’ve encountered 3-4 of them in some havoc matches and they have certainly ended some of our missions when coupled with a monstrosity in a tight corridor when we have a horrible RNG platter of special conditions. The toughness one really makes a difference with those captain dudes. The one with the deleting shotgun is a definitely a challenge.
As I say sometimes they have been easy but sometimes they’ve ended our run. It’s luck of the draw on all the other variables. If you keep getting easy variables then that’s just lucky I guess…or unlucky if you’re a sweat junkie lol
I would like to see the Crusher Variant actually power up their crusher after the first shield pop, and this adds an AOE anytime they hit an ally as well as on their BIG SLAM attack, so dodging their attacks becomes way more important, even if you are not the one being targeted since you never know if a hit will land and get 'cha in the splash zone.
As for the sword variant, when their shield pops I’d like to see them drop a smoke bomb and go invisible until their next attack. Their combos can be pretty devastating and this could be scary if you don’t know whom they’re going to attack next.
This way, the crusher variant is like the “You gotta dodge” variant and the sword is the “You gotta block” variant. As opposed to both being very similar to one another.
A band-aid upgrade for now should be: Shield break does not stun captains anymore.
The bug which make them attack and deal damage without playing the attack animation has to be fixed.
This is the perfect encapsulation of how the end of assassination missions be lmao
IT’S BLASTING TIME!!!
I never thought I would see someone defend the Captains as a boss.
Sometimes it seems like the captain just taps you for 90% of your hp, without any attack animation. What is up with that?
It’s a bug with the recent update - that never used to happen but some of the captains will go through entire combos but look like they’re standing completely still. Extremely deadly on some of the captains that barely require 2 hits to kill you
