In case anyone was wondering just how obtrusive the helbore sight really is. Iron sights in general aren’t the most pleasant to use, but the helbore sights go above and beyond in their efforts to not let you see what you’re aiming at. You don’t look through the helbore sights, so much as you try to look around them.

If the helbore trench sight is here to stay, at the very least the trench should be widened significantly, so that you can actually see through it. Either that, or the weapon’s viewmodel FoV should be increased, to effectively “zoom in” on the sight and allow us to see through it better.

I think you should go one step further and overlay all helbore marks ads because I know one is zoomed in compared to the others and I can confidently say it still doesn’t help.

Mix this with it’s other problems (run cost same as bolter anyone?!?) and anything short of a total sight model overhaul should be unacceptable

It’s not just that the sight picture is garbage…it’s the fact that the Helbore doesn’t actually have a proper rear sight, what the player is attempting to use to center the front sight post instead of a rear sight is…an optics rail.

I always liked the helbore lasgun, the bayonet is really good and the weapon damage is also good, but the sight is hot garbage, this could all be fixed if the devs added a way to customize our weapons, at least ranged ones.

Use the move tech

Just as the existence of the mosquito can be taken as proof that God hates us, so does the Hellbore sight-picture demonstrate FS’s hate.

I feel you brah. I just got the weapon customization mod and put a real scope on it.
It’s sad helbore should be the “sniper” in the game, and has the worst sights possible for default. So I don’t consider using the mod “cheating”.

It’s honestly HD2-level-bad, but HD2 at least has a plethora of ‘designated marksman’ weapons and uses stratagems for the bulk of player firepower, so the one ‘sniper rifle’ there being an inaccurate burst-fire weapon with bad falloff is acceptable.

The only sniper rifle here being hard to use for sniping is much less excusable. I’d be less annoyed, mind you, if the infantry lasgun had the punch to take its place.

I think that the infantry lasgun is a better fit for the DMR role with its holo sight and heavy emphasis on headshot blessings. It’s closer to a vigilant/headhunter autogun than to an infantry autogun.

Agreed about the lack of punch though.

Hm. I should retest it with the new stuff now that I think of it. Part of the problem was that it required two headshots even at the best of times on Damnation - with the changes to some vet talents it might be more consistent now.

It also cleans up well in Heresy and below with a crit build.

It’s…not terrible?

Very much specialized in a ‘clear gunners’ role and while it can take advantage of Marksman’s Focus fairly well (finesse damage buffs hit hard) it lacks the punch to handle rager swarms.

Bring it with dueling sword and frags to compensate for its shortcomings though and a left-specialized tree might just work. Long enough distance for Longshot to ramp up lets you one-tap both gunner types fairly consistently combined with the reverse damage falloff, frags and the overpowered pokey stick handle hordes and armor. You may want to spec into shout and sacrifice some of that MF damage though instead.
