I’m just glad to have a use for more niche prequel quotes.

I guess I spoke of the devil when I mentioned hiring another CM in Strawhat’s dev blog post. A-ye, hello.

Expect lots of salt on the forums, but know that behind a lot of it there are passionate fans of Darktide who are irritated that Fatshark seems to be slogging with making it the best it can be.

Hoping to see lots more communication between player and developer in the future - the thought process behind design decisions is something we are notoriously uninformed on.

EDIT: Ogryn main I see! Here’s a protip for you: if you’re using a Kickback with the Run ‘n’ Gun blessing, you can sprint cancel the reload as soon as the shell goes in to shoot way faster.

I welcome our new CM.

Strawhat has been hard carrying comms for Darktide for too long. More CM hopefully means more comms overall.

Also, Ogryn main, ergo they’re a person of culture.

Hey, Kitefin. I suggest you from the very beginning of your work to do a very good thing for our game, raise the question regarding the rebalancing of all weapons in the game in connection with the complexity of Havoc, in the new mode is relevant weapons only category S. Everyone plays with meta and every player runs with the same weapons, and if you do not use the best weapons, you will not be taken to the team on 40 Havoc, even if you play very well. This is an objective issue that needs to be addressed for any weapon to be effective.

Hello and Welcome!

I’ll pile on and reiterate that for most of us here on the forums, we fundamentally like Darktide and want it to be as successful of a game as it can be.

We want it to be amazing so more people play and it, meaning more people for the servers and more money for Fatshark to keep up content and development. We want to see the player base steadily growing over time, not spiking up and then dropping back down after every big release. We want it to prosper and grow.

So if it at times we seem like we’re complaining, being overly critical, getting worked up about issues big and small, demanding better, etc - please try to remember that fundamentally this all comes from a place of passion. We love the core gameplay in Darktide and want to see the game, in its entirety, shine and be the best.

The perennial challenge for CM’s responding to the community really boils down to accountability and transparency. Fatshark, from the developer side, is very opaque in their plans and intentions given how niche this game really is. When communications do happen, they often feel a bit out-of-touch with what the community has been advocating for. I don’t believe this is a reflection of the CM’s, but more a reflection of the overall leadership and management style for Fatshark as a whole, and the Darktide team specifically.

If there’s one thing I’d love to see the CM’s (both current and new!) address going forward it’s just to have more open and honest dialog with the devs about their plans and intentions for the title, and some sort of response to the outstanding concerns and issues the community keeps raising. We often feel like we’re shouting into the void, and the CM’s are hush-hush for whatever reasons.

Anyway - welcome to the mourningstar! Here’s to making Darktide the best it can be.

what I expect from a CM is that they listen to the wide range of feedback provided by players, properly communicate it to the dev team, and clearly report back on what happens afterward, whether there’s any progress or response regarding that feedback.

even more important is that they share how the developers and the team are actually reacting to the feedback, what they think, how they feel, and whether it has influenced anything internally.

if players keep raising their voices on the forums but get no response from the CM, it becomes unclear what’s going on behind the scenes, and eventually, giving feedback starts to feel meaningless. As a bridge between the community and the developers, a CM should value transparency and two-way communication.

in the end, if the CM consistently avoids addressing inconvenient topics, gives no clear answers, or responds with vague, evasive language, then their role loses all meaning. At that point, they’re nothing more than a puppet of Fatshark.

the reason we see countless threads about the same topics popping up in the forums is because no one is getting any clear answers from the CM or the devs. take the discussion around solo mode, for example. saying something like “It’s not a current priority” is too vague to satisfy anyone.

even if the answer is something players may not want to hear, it’s far better to be honest and say:
“Solo mode will not be implemented for the foreseeable future. we apologize for having given that impression initially, but at this time, we want to focus our resources on developing main content.”
some players still may not be happy with that answer, but a clear, honest explanation is far better than a vague, half-hearted one.
