There is no reliable way to cancel a charge with a Hellbore Lasgun?!
I saw an acknowledged Bug report from Jan '23.
Needs to get fixed asap!
edit: sometimes if you release ADS (RMB) it works, but more often it doesn’t!
Not sure what the timing is or should be but this needs to be tweaked maybe.
Breaking ADS should allways cancel charging, even when you start charge without ADS, but then ADS and release again should cancel the charge and do nothing.
I think the delay when you start charging needs some more milliseconds, so when you release RMB you dont start charging again that quick.
It’s for sure a nerf to the gun, because charing then needs even some more milliseconds, but the way it is is also bad for your ammo, even with 25% extra and Shock Trooper and also for the flow of shooting.
Reloading or the bayonett attack are not really good alternatives as they make you stuck in a long animation.
Timing your charges and shots is crucial to this weapon and playstyle, but without a propoer way to cancel the charges it just feels wrong.
While I would appreciate a way to cancel charge shots, it is in no way bad for your ammo economy. Even if I always fire off an extra shot at nothing every time there’s nothing left to shoot at, I still never need to grab ammo, although I do have a habit of qq swapping when I’m not in exe stance to save that ammo.

animation cancels for me are exploits that aren’t intendet to be used or solve the issue really and make the weapon more intuitive and fun to handle and play.
The thing is, sometimes you can do it like it is intended and like it was before iirc.
You just cancel ADS (release RMB) and the charge cancels.
not sure what qq swapping is, but i’m coming from Las Pistol atm and switched back to las Pistol, because i cannot stop charges.
I’ts annoying to me and makes the weapon les fun to play.
Seems to be a bug for a year already and i would like it to be fixed and would play Hellbore III more often as it is a great weapon for RP immersion and viable up to Damnation.
I dont even use onslaught on it, but Surgical and Infernus to get maximum damage output vs. Monstrosities, elites etc.
I’d maybe like to change my build and not use the ammo saves.
Holy emperor, the weapon aborting a charge whenever I accidentally release the RMB before LMB (and sometimes even for other undeterminable reasons) is SO annoying. I wish it didn’t do that.
I lose so much damage output because of the weapon just not firing.
Ammo, on the other hand, has never been a concern. I’ve yet to manage running out of ammo with a helbore. Or even get really low without dying first.
I’m pretty sure “Q” is the default keybind for “quickswap”… so QQ switches to melee then back to ranged nearly instantaneously… but still does the pullout animation, which is the thing that needs to be removed to solve some huge problems with Helbores.
