HD2 vs Darktide: January-August 2025 Comparison

Agreed the timer hasn’t been as big an issue as I was worried. But it is possible and I have had it happen.

I’m mainly just salty about losing those epic moments that you’d hear most, if not all, vets of the first galactic war recount fondly.

I don’t know if any of you have played the latest HD2 update but the hive worlds and new enemy terminid units are quite challenging on super hell dive - the cave environments are really cool also

i agree that you can’t compare the two, darktide is linear and it’s like going on a ride, where HD2 is more of a sandbox - you pick how, when, and where you will tackle the objectives

I won’t blast you for having an opinion, but I have to ask… you do know what “subjective” means, right? Just in case you don’t, “subjective”, in the context of feelings, means it’s “Based on a given person’s experience, understanding, and feelings; personal or individual.” For example, it’s my subjective opinion that chocolate ice cream tastes better than strawberry ice cream.

Now that that’s cleared up. Next question: Are you aware that “fun” is subjective? What’s fun for you may not be fun for others, and what they find fun may be something you can’t stand or find mind numbingly boring. For example, I love bowling and think it’s super fun, my wife thinks bowling is boring and stupid. The levels of fun we have while bowling is different, because fun is subjective.

Now, that we have gone over our vocabulary lessons. I wonder if you’ve caught on where I’m going with this. You say:

This, is a subjective statement. Personally, I would only agree to this if the group of 4 was me and three friends. Whereas, me + 3 randoms, me +1 friend + 2 randoms, or me + 2 friends + 1 random, are all significantly less fun than me + 3 bots, me + 1 friend + 2 bots, or me + 2 friends + 1 bot. So significantly less fun, in fact, that after the open beta I stopped playing Darktide entirely until the 2+Bots private lobbies were added so my friend and I could play without randoms, and then stopped again once he stopped playing. Meanwhile, I have 371 hours in Vermintide 2, and probably 300 of that was solo w/ bots, ~70 was duo/trio w/ bots, and ~1 was one or two attempts to play with randoms before deciding that it ruins the experience and I’d rather just play with bots.

So, if you’d like to tell me that I’m wrong for feeling the way I do about playing with randoms, then I’d like to remind you how stupid that is and would be like me telling you that you’re wrong for preferring to play with randoms. I hope this response was enlightening to you, especially since I didn’t need to reference the fact that solo modes are available in every. single. game. in this niche genre of horde shooter/slashers except Darktide and the fact that solo mode was promised to be implemented into Darktide before Fatsharks lazy, greedy, and out of touch devs decided that they’d prefer to shove their fat, greasy, middle fingers into the faces of people who asked for solo mode and said “get f**ked you losers, we don’t care about you” and continue to refuse to engage with us on the topic.

War bonds aren’t really content, it’s either download the mod to farm super credits, farm them without it and spend 15 hours just doing that, or buy it with cash. It’s also the same conceptual problem Fatshark has with dlc, always pushing for more overpowered nonsense.

New weapons, new stratagems, new bonuses…
For me it is content.

But even of this HD2 with an entire faction added has delivered more content than Darktide.

it’s much easier to justify spamming dlc than updates, fatshark would be significantly faster if they had the same level of depth to deal with as hd2 has, and the ability to assign all but 4 dudes from map/environment design to weapons. New faction was made by an external studio.

Looking at the developer credits for both games, I’m not seeing where Arrowhead has some huge specialized weapons dev team where Darktide doesn’t. Darktide has more credited dedicated Gameplay developers than HD2 does. Darktide has a lot of level artists that AH doesn’t, but otherwise both studios have similar numbers of credited level design roles. Both studios make significant use of 3rd party studios for content (and FS’s former combat lead design is now…freelancing for HD2). I suspect a more likely answer is that either AH is just better run, or the DT team got gutted and moved onto other projects, or some combination.

There’s a lot that can be thrown at Warbonds, but pushing overpowered nonsense I don’t think is really one of them. There’s a lot of meme-weaponry. Looking at all the different weapon types (assault rifles, shotguns, etc), the basic free Mobilize warbond weapons are all on par with anything you’ll find in the Premium warbonds.

I certainly don’t think anyone would consider either the Killzone or Halo assault rifles definitively better than the basic Liberator for example. The Constitution or Deadeye aren’t doing what the Diligence does.

90% of every mission I drop sees 3 if not all 4 Boosters run being the basic Mobilize ones (I literally can’t recall a game where someone didn’t take at least Space Optimization and Vitality Enhancement or Stamina). The Laser and Flame turrets are probably the least well liked turrets and they’re the Premium ones. Likewise the Gas and Arc guard dogs aren’t seen as being any better than the basic Laser/Assault Rifle guard dogs.

Most of your killing power isn’t coming from the stuff in warbonds, and of the stuff that is, the Premium Warbond stuff isn’t broadly any more powerful than the basic free stuff.

AH and FS, both ignore the playerbase.

look at current mess with the new update. the audacity to say, “you are the minor playerbase complaining”, like yeah for sure we are minor playerbase, when whole new platform (xbox) playerbase joined and stuck at difficulty1-5, while we are getting wiped at difficulty 10 nonstop due to poor balancing.

not to mention survey that closes when it gets full, getting filled in first 3 hours, no way you can participate in it.
