Haven't enjoyed the game

I said I wouldn’t buy it until they fixed the map/crafting RNG, but my friend convinced me after the recent Talent Tree changes.

Leveled all characters to 30, and found I just wasn’t enjoying the game.

And yes I saw an enemy spawn right in front of me in this Tide game too.

Disablers:
The final straw for me was in two matches in a row, a Trapper spawned within 10ft of me, with no sound until they shot, and caught me despite me being at a 90 degree angle to them. I watched the net fly out of the side of the gun both times.

  • Being able to catch you through the back of other enemies. This is and always has been the worst thing in Tide games. If there’s more than 10 Elites and ‘x’ Specials or a Boss active, they should idle
  • Spawning too close and insta using their ‘disabling’ ability
  • Little to no noise, especially if it’s a Trapper- initial voiceline doesn’t always play or is too quiet
  • Trappers can shoot the net out of the side of the gun
  • Dogs are so incredibly janky, I don’t even know where to start with them. I found them quite easy to avoid, but they teleport, do 180 degree turns with no animation, jump through walls (with the ‘jump over object’ animation)

ADS:
I’m not a fan of ironsights in general, but Darktide probably has this worse than any game I’ve played before. There’s so much screen spam in this game, and ADSing with a chunk of metal makes it so much worse. I ended up focusing on Ranged Weapons that didn’t need to ADS as much because of this.

You really need to work on sights and scopes badly.

  • ADS looks like a car is parking on your screen
  • The difference in satisfaction from just using the Handgun to pop heads in V2, to swinging a jackhammer in Darktide was noticeable

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Melee and builds with shorter range being made useless:
Certain situations cause playing low range builds horrible. E.g. too many ranged enemies and the 10 gunner death squad being around a corner with no indication.

Running things like the bullet blocking Trait on Psyker and Shield for Ogryn helped a bit (despite the bullet blocking Trait being bugged), and things like Psyker Shield. But then you feel railroaded into one type of build.

I fully aknowledge that this game is supposed to be more range heavy, but it doesn’t make this not a problem.

  • Some cover just doesn’t work, and enemies seem to target the outer pixels of your character. I get that you don’t want the enemies to seem too dumb, but it’s really frustrating
  • You can get rotted down by AoE and shooting really quickly
  • You have no control over whether the map will have lots of these situations, as you mostly play Quickplay with random modifiers
  • There’s also sections of map where you turn into an open area, which is full of range spam, and all you can do is sit and wait for other people to clear the area with range
  • For melee builds especially, sometimes you will only get to play the game when Elite density is so high, and there’s some Bulwarks, meaning that a longer melee fight will occur
  • The V2 ranged meta meme of enemies dying directly in front of you from 100m away is still true. Having low Toughness in melee range and other people shooting the enemies to death is super fun
  • Ofc this is a more ranged focused game, but when you’re Zealot with the flamethrower AFK behind a box thinking about how 99% of your Talents are based on being in melee range, it’s pretty frustrating- This seems to improve on Aurics (I only got decent enough items to do this on my Psyker and I created an Ogryn character, so I leveled from level 1 in Aurics ofc)

Item rewards while leveling:
For some reason you get spammed with axes and laser guns, and other weapons that felt extremely bad without the necessary stats and Talents to improve them. I think I received more Axes at low levels than any other weapon. Then as soon as you can pick up a weapon with high cleave, the game feels fine.

I got so many bad weapon that it felt intentional though?

Veteran randomly being the best Character in the game:

I leveled it last and couldn’t believe how different it feels to others. The 30s Toughness Stun (Reduced by Special kills) with the Plasma rocket launcher thing, is what I played, and it was insane.

Psyker shield felt somewhat balanced, as you need good placement and good usage to make it work, whereas Vet can just spam the Toughness Ult on CD and make everyone pretty much invincible? The best way I can describe it is SoTT on crack.

On top of that, you actually get ammo and don’t have to run around looking at the floor.

I know people are saying the Power Sword is OP, and it does feel really good on lower difficulties, but Diff 4 or 5 (whichever was the highest before Aurics) didn’t really feel that strong in high Elite density. Definitely felt better than a lot of the other weapons though for sure. I’d imagine on Aurics it can’t real with Elite density that well.

The main reason though is that it’s the most ranged class on the ranged class game, much like playing GK/WPoS/Slayer on V2. So it would be strong.

Random:

  • Chain and Warp Weapons getting stuck on one target, while you get hit by others didn’t feel good. Ofc, it’s on you to play around it, but if there’s too many enemies you just don’t get to use that function. Surely it should add more Cleave? I mostly enjoyed the Chain axe with Bleed on Special and Maniac for easily deleting chargers

  • Chain Axe: I get people are saying it needs a buff, but I think it just needs changes. The locking on of Lights feels horrible, and doesn’t seem to benefit you any more on Armour. Spamming Heavy Attacks on that angle, and using the Special for bigger enemies was fine, other than the locking (maybe if you’ve reached the kill breakpoint, the enemies should insta die or something)

  • Stamina is one of the most annoying stats in the game, you have to use it to keep up with the team, looking at the floor for mats, and then a pox burster spawns 5ft away and explodes- I feel like if you’re at 0 stamina, JUST FROM SPRINTING, you should be given at least one free push, you’re kind of forced to run Wounds on certain Careers, and drop Stamina too

Flamers, high temperature guns, high Peril, other screen spam. 10 people shooting, at the same time, everything on fire, my gun is a car crash every time I ADS.

I got eye ache more time from this game than anything else I’ve ever played.

I don’t mind it being in the game, but the prices are too high for recolours, and also making it so you can’t access skins if you didn’t have the game on a specific date is dumb. I’m not having PC space taken up for the off chance a skin comes out that I like.

Also having random change left on my Steam account, due to the price of [insert different name for real life currency] having pennies, instead of being rounded.

Bosses:
I didn’t think much of the ‘Lord’ type Bosses or Boss (I can’t remember if there’s more than one, it’s so forgettable)

As this is a ranged Tide game, I expected the Bosses to die quickly, sometimes they just vanish and you think it’s a bug.

  • Chaos witch thingy it kind of pointless beyond difficulty, I wish there was a reason to kill it

Other than the screaming, I think the Charger is the most well balanced Disabler in any of the Tide games due to the way he works. Dogs being quite easily avoidable is pretty good too.

Conclusion:
I think I’ll get it again if gun sights and crafting are fixed.

Hope this wasn’t too doomer of me. I know FS improve their games throughout, and I could go through the good things for ages too.

Just realised, after going back to V2 for Halloween and Sienna DLC that I enjoyed that more. Damage is a lot more avoidable.

Nice feedback! In my head the “AAAA” was you screaming in frustration, but otherwise I think you handily tackle your biggest peeves. Safe to say you are amongst allies here, I see a lot of the communities biggest gripes reflected in your write up.

I re-installed the game and was actually going to give it another shot despite crafting not being released until December, or February, or whatever. But know I might just

pretty much that :wink: the game has serious engine bugs, caugh, design decisions that make it annoying to play. just to sum it up:

  • net code that makes shooting a lottery
  • random spawning enemies that just does not make any sense
  • iron sight from 1800 era
  • a lottery based upgrade system

did i miss anything?

I couldn’t have put it better myself. My group exclusively plays the modified difficulties just to feel something when we play Darktide and the mutants are making me lose my damned mind. I ended up just muting the game the other night while we played the final mission for the night. I got hit from behind a ton, but it honestly wasn’t bad. It’s not like sound helps you with specials anyway.

You did better than me. I have a level 30 psyker, zealot, and veteran. I do not have it in me to level another character to 30.

They also routinely shoot through walls. Usually sharp corners, to be fair, but they’ve straight up shot through solid walls on many occasions. Likely caused by whatever makes the dogs jump through walls with the climb animation, like you mentioned.

I’ve been using the weapon customization mod. And just like you’d think, auto guns and bolters are so much easier to use with reflex sights, it honestly feels like cheating.

I don’t disagree with you, but I have a bad take: I don’t want them to implement the weapon mods.

As it stands, I can modify my weapons freely using the mod. If they implement it in game, there will likely be plasteel and diamantine costs to craft the mods, and maybe (and may Allah forgive me for saying this) random stats for each attachment. It just sounds exhausting. I absolutely agree it should be part of the base game in principal, but I’m really not looking forward to what degree of tedium that could be introduced with the system.

That being said, there is a good timeline where weapon mods have set stats and the current random stat system is replaced with a hugely improved crafting system where one can freely build the weapon they actually want.

How do you even get it? I looked on Nexus and it wasn’t there.

Imagined there would be balance problems. If they add it to the game, I’m guessing the patch after will be a balance one.

It’s available on the Darktide modding Discord. There’s a specific channel just for it. I don’t know the forum roles, but linking is usually frowned upon in these sorts of forums. It’s very easy to find with a quick internet search, though. Installation is also very easy.

All valid points.
Hate how mobs move around without basic inertia. You can’t even predict their next step. You have to wait until they stop, to shoot them.
