Happy 3rd Anniversary!

It’s that time of year again, folks! We’re officially at 3 years since Solo Mode was revealed to be “Coming Soon to a Darktide Near You!” That’s 36 months, or 156 Weeks, or 1,095 Days! Gosh. How time flies… I’m sure some of you are asking yourself, “But Darktide doesn’t have a solo mode, right?” and to you I say “Very astute observation!”

Despite being told that we’d be receiving solo mode by December 2022 (or shortly thereafter) we still do not have Solo mode implemented into Darktide. In fact, Fatshark refuses to acknowledge that Solo Mode was even planned! Isn’t that just amazing customer service? Telling paying customers that they’re going to receive something and then refusing to tell them why they still haven’t received it in 3 years? The last piece of information we officially received was that solo mode was “not a priority”, but that was in October 2023! Over two years ago! I’d ask if you could believe that, but it’s Fatshark and they’re the in the running for the “Worst Communications" award.

Ultimately, I know this is a futile effort, Fatshark has shown time and time again that the players do not matter, only the player’s wallets, and that they’d be more than willing to sacrifice their players to the Chaos Gods if it meant they could save $0.01 on development costs. Well, I should say Fatshark Leadership has that mindset anyway. I do believe the actual developers want to make a fun game out of passion, but Fatshark’s corporate suits only want the money even at the player’s expense.

Moving on from that weird tangent, it’s clear to me that unless something fundamentally changes with how the players interact with Fatshark, nothing will change for the better. Solo Mode is my promised feature that was left to rot in a dark warehouse marked with an “Under No Circumstances Are We To Address These Issues” sign, but there are many other promised features that Fatshark has pretended they never made and refuse to acknowledge. There’s an entire Book of Grudges filled with issues and the most engagement from Fatshark Enployees we see in there is when the text limit needs increased because the post is too long. What does that tell you?

I’m not giving up on Solo Mode and you shouldn’t give up on what you wish to fight for either. We eventually had the locks broken, we can improve this game by fighting for what we want. Stop letting Fatshark get away with this heresy! As a company, they serve us, not the other way around. They can’t exist without our support, and it’s long past the time they remembered that.

I’d love a proper solo mode too.

Unfortunately, Fatshark going for easy wins isn’t something that they’d do.

I suddenly felt the urge to share this old Hedge post lol

At this point they should just admit they lied about it being ready right after launch.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a failure, I’d say it just didn’t work.”

Honestly, I get where you’re coming from. Three years is a long time to leave a promised feature hanging, especially when communication has basically gone silent. Even if solo mode wasn’t a priority anymore, a clear update from Fatshark would’ve saved a lot of frustration.
At this point most players just want transparency—not miracles. Just say what’s happening, what’s not, and why. The devs clearly care about the game, but the messaging from leadership has felt disconnected for a while now.
Hopefully they break the silence soon, because people wouldn’t still be asking after three years if they didn’t actually care about the game.

Keep fighting the good fight, man.
I used to support you just because of your dedication (and FS is clearly in the wrong). But now I’m a solo mode proponent too. And, funny enough, it’s because of a mode they added called Mortis Trials. I really want to be able to play that mode solo. It’s the only way I can see myself actually having fun with it as is.

I also want to see you succeed to keep my own hopes alive:

Cheers, see you next year (and every patch note in between)!

I mean… solo mode’s been ready ever since private games were introduced, literally just remove the 2 player requirement for private games.
They just don’t want to allocate server resources to online solo players because they had the brilliant idea of making the entirety of Darktide online only using dedicated servers.

I agree with that, but solo is also held back by immense tech debt in bot behaviour - releasing solo mode just by itself wouldn’t solve that, and I suppose it’s one quality they don’t really want to give up on, since it would just not be a good enough feature.

Absolutely. It’s funny though, because as I wrote this I started to realize that I was barely talking about Solo Mode. It’s my main thing I want added, but I guess I subconsciously realized that the issue is bigger than “where is solo mode?”. As @eimmaarose said,

This is a clear customer service issue with Fatshark. As I said in my closing statement, Fatshark serves us. I want people to ask themselves “Is this company that clearly doesn’t have my best interests in mind by using known predatory tactics like FOMO and RNG driven engagement, and repeatedly lies about or pretends they never promised something really a company I want to give my money to?” If that answer is “yes”, then by all means. It’s your money, spend it however you want. But for most of us that answer is “No.”

This is an issue of communication, transparency, and accountability. We, as consumers, can’t keep letting corporations get away with taking advantage of us. Solo Mode is a symptom of a much larger issue.

Three Years. AND on top of that, just to rub salt in the old wound, they do a class reveal that has united the various platforms of Darktide in a way that I haven’t seen since the days of RNG for the purpose of shitting on it.

Coming out of my hibernation again to throw myself at this brick wall right alongside you. Pretty much the only reason I keep an eye on this game anymore.

The fact that a feature that was openly advertised has gone this long without even a definitive “its never happening” is frankly just baffling, to say the least. Like, I’m more than happy to just take a simple “We cancelled it, its not happening.” and move on with my life. But apparently Fatshark is too good for even that, let alone anything else.

And at this point, if we were to actually get a solo mode? I’d take the default bots, as bad as they are. I’d be more than happy to just play sedition missions by myself with three stock vet bots for the end of time. Because at least then I’d be able to reliably play missions at my own pace, without worrying about other people, and still get SOME KIND of progression for it. I’d even be more than willing to buy new cosmetics and skins and classes, because I buy that stuff for me anyway.

I miss Aqshy and Strawhat, at least they responded to people. Strawhat was the only CM to actually engage with us about Solo Mode too. It felt like Strawhat was frustrated about the situation right alongside us. Which was nice while it lasted.

The lack of Solo Mode is actually hurting my ability to play with my friends. Because I can’t queue for a Private game until I gave people in my party I can’t just start a mission and let my friends drop in and out at their leisure, I need to arrange it like an MMO Raid. And I can’t try to farm out boring weeklies on a lower difficulty while I am waiting for 3 other people with busy lives to get together. The end result is that I either play Quickplay with randos (which I would classify as self harm), or I load up Vermintide 2 and play some of that while I wait, and would you look at that all of my friends have Vermintide 2 installed and they can drop in as they please.
