Grimoires: Remove them or redesign so only the people carry them receive corruption

Either remove Grimoires from the game or make it so only the players that carry them receive corruption.

Grimoires have no real function in the game and they are not worth the risk.
The only thing that would make them worthwhile would be if you received a random cosmetic from the Commodore’s Vestures shop, if you extract with them. They are not worth any XP and definitely not worth Ordo Dockets and Ingots. After the itemization update both Ordo Dockets and Ordo Ingots are close to pointless, the shops are pointless and Grimoires are pointless. Scriptures are also pointless but they don’t give everyone in the party corruption so it doesn’t matter.

They are solely for the Penances and should not affect the whole team because one or two players want them.

They give dockets though, that’s all the reason I need to pick em up. There’s also penances for a frame which I’m working towards. Plus I like picking them up, it’s fun. If you don’t have fun, consider avoiding missions that spawn with grimoires

another prime example why map and modifier choice should be free.

grims are fine and i never mind them being in a HISTG auric damnation if the map suits my fancy.

then again, everything containing grims is boring enough having played auric maelstrom and havoc now.

i do get the idea of “damn grims suck but the only map available right now that i wanna play has em in”

those picking the match for the grims though dont give a ratsass about what map, they want the mode.

so, in order to keep both groups from pissing each other off, it´d be so easy to make every mode/map optional at the cost of longer waiting times.

ironically fatshark seems perfectly fine with having party finder taking 15 minutes to find a suitable team, why not apply that to lower as well for people willing to wait ?

playerbase isn´t “divided” any further, if anything i put the dudes that whine to much about petty grim corruption on my personal ignore list and opt out next lobby anyways…

try to understand people usually playing auric maelstrom and now havoc, there is no “risk”.
its a short snack before something worthwile pops up.

Penance says pick up, I pick up. Once penance is done I’ll stop caring about them.

Although if I feel the team isn’t good enough to survive to the end while carrying them I might actively destroy them so no one else can hold them.
I don’t always feel like testing my solo clutch capabilities haha.

But they do have a function, you said it yourself.
You gain currency and XP for it and they are tied to penances. I understand that players on here with 500+ hours might not need it, but there are a bunch of new players who might do.

If you find yourself dying often in grim missions then there’s always the option of using wound curios with corruption resistance specifically for grimoires.

I will honestly say that I did get mad whenever I did a grimoires mission and there was one or more players in the strike team that would hate on the rest of us for carrying a grim that in their head will eventually be the death of us all.

The mission is marked, so if you don’t want grimoires don’t play maps with grimoires.

I second everything stated here.

You can’t just tell people to forgo the quickplay bonus because you want to force the entire lobby into carrying grims.

You can’t just tell people to forgo the grimoire bonus because you want to quickplay and force them to play how you want, either.

You get this bonus cause you jump to a random mission and accept the risk. This includes the fact that the mission could have grimoires.

If you have fun, it’s ok, but speaking from a gameplay design’s sake, it’s not an interesting/fun mechanics: you just cut off your HP (the worst way to increase the difficulty) with virtually zero reward

Then, of course, you’re free to pick them and the “Don’t play grims maps” is sadly a legit advice… legit but decisely not constructive, it doesn’t add much to the topic… because reworking grims or giving us the freedom to choose map and modifiers (since it may happen that the only map currently available has grims) is a light years better advice. It’s this the way to improve the game

I don’t think it’s an uninteresting mechanic. It cuts your HP short and gives you rewards, it’s literally just risk vs reward. I like it and I liked it in VT2 too

That said reworking them to be more interesting would be cool, I just wouldn’t want to see them removed or the debuff nerfed like that

Or, I can just not take grims and not take the risk.

Quickplay gives bonuses to crafting material gains, which are way more useful than Dockets and XP.

Well guess what, it’s a team game.

There’s 3 other people on the team. If they don’t want to take the grim, then you don’t take the grim.

Goes both ways. I notice people always use this specific line as an excuse for why they’re trying to force others to play how they want.
It’s a team game. If the others want to pick up a grimoire, what then?

What risk? If you use corruption resist, the damages are minimal.
Only on psyker it can be a problem due to the amount of HP of this class. And even on it, and note that I am not a good psyker, I never had a difficulty with the grimoire itself.

Got that one time. Someone that did not want that I pick a grimoire. I took it and carried it until the end. He never ceased to insult, harass me during the entire mission complaining…
At one time I told him “you should play cause I won’t destroy it. You loose your time here”. Then I added him in blocked players.

I will summarize for everybody. If you cannot play a mission with grimoire, do not pick such mission and do not use quickplay. Or, pick the difficulty under.
You have choices.

What risk indeed.

If the team agrees to carry the grim, then you carry the grim. If not, then not.

I’ll accept such a majority vote with a votekick, otherwise I’ll be exercising my freedom to play the game how I want after paying the exact same amount of money you paid for it!

Then I’ll exercise my freedom to discard the grim if I feel like the team cannot carry it to the end.

Glad we could come to an agreement.
