Premise:
I have a suggestion for spawn locations for the grims/scripts, the random locations aren’t really doing anything to improve gameplay to my mind. I thought about what they’re for in Darktide, and it feels kind of like they’re just random busywork as it stands currently. Random spawns replacing a potential ammo drop or crafting mat drop isn’t contributing to the game imo.
Solution:
Spawn the grims/scripts at the “shrines” where we get revived at after death. This does three things. Thing one, it highlights these very important locations. It passively teaches players where to look for reviving allies, beyond just following the highlight waypoint on the screen. Using the “show don’t tell” method helps teach map layouts and encourages better awareness and play.
Thing two, it gives a more reliable method of finding the pickups leading to less player frustration. The current system leads to very easily missed pickups, there’s no skill to develop when any spawn could get the RNG hit. As a player I want to feel like I accomplished something finding an important pickup, not that I just got lucky.
Thing three, and this one I think is the least of the three, it could reduce the negative experience around getting downed and needing rescued. It would likely be a rare scenario, but say you get downed and are sent to the revival point “shrine”. Placed on it, surrounded by the heretics guarding your tied up body, is the green glow of a Grimoire being used in dark heretical rituals. Now instead of a detour or a slowing of the gameplay your team is actively rewarded for reviving you as they would have wanted to be on that path to begin with. Yea that one’s a bit of a stretch, but I think the first two points would be enough on their own. The third just happens to be an interesting by product.
