I feel like I’ve been needlessly pessimistic lately so I want to try and reset my perspective by making this post and hopefully get some other folks to cool it. This forum has been rancid lately and it’s dragging me down.
First, a few acknowledgements:
Fatshark doesn’t talk nearly as much as they should.
Fatshark’s development is slower than it feels like it should be.
Darktide is an increasingly unstable video game.
Got it? Ok, good. Here’s the main thing I wanted to bring to attention:
Most of the major updates have been pretty good. The game as a whole HAS gotten better over the years. It takes a lot of yelling and complaints, but Fatshark IS listening, even if they don’t speak out loud. We’re getting THREE tree reworks in the next update, all of which look really good, and I would consider this the main focus of the update since nobody really cares about Maneater Trees. I honestly expected just the one for Veteran or Zealot, but instead Vet, Zealot, and Psyker, all of which have been somewhat stale meta-wise, are getting reworked.
We are getting the new Veteran weapons we promised, even if they aren’t really all that cool. We got the locks broken last year, allowing for freeform experimentation and buildcrafting. We got the ultra sweat 3000 gamemode for ultra sweats, for all of its ranking system flaws. There IS something interesting going on here.
S’all. See you tomorrow, depending on performance issues.
Would like to make an immediate addendum to this post and say that while the events are not all too interesting, they’re very clearly low-effort to produce. Clearly someone in management has identified that having a small group of devs work on churning these out to keep people who want to grind the time-limited events interested in the game is worth it. Good job, unidentified manager!
There was a second earlier today when I was f***********ed up on hopium and I thought, “Bound By Duty would be a great name for the update they drop solo mode.”
That’s the big remaining bugbear for me. Otherwise, I think FS, slow as they may be, are delivering on what they said they would. I wish there was more communication, and would love more resources thrown at DT. But all in all, I’m happy with the general direction…even getting (kinda neutered) mission select.
My primary wish is that I would like to be able to mute non-informational dialogue. Some days I’m just not in the mood for casual conversation and would rather focus on the combat than exposition or karkin’ hilarious jabs.
In other words, Kerillian duct tape mod for Zola when
I think the low effort events would be popular if they always offered 500 Aquilas as a reward. I think many, many more people would come back consistently and grind those out.
I would also actually buy some Aquilas if they did that, guaranteed! Sadly (for FS that is!) my principles are stronger than the lock on my wallet.
Until they do something to sort this FOMO I refuse to spend a single penny or any of my free Aquilas from the Event or DLC.
Balance wise this patch seems to have more winners than losers but it’s still crazy that most of the info I know about the patch is from Darktide content creators throwing bread crumbs…….
FS can’t even give the actual game proper tool tips and/or descriptions so I’m hardly surprised that the update has next to no real patch notes. They hate the written word
Using the forums too much all you see is the problems in the game. It doesn’t just destroy your attitude toward the state of the game, but joy you get from playing it too.
Zip It is a good mod but I’ve always found it really inconsistent when it comes to which dialogue gets muted. I ended up turning it off because it felt weird.
