its what they can’t say that bugs me the most I suppose
Just so I understand you clearly. The reason you think that the devs are working on feedback that they obviously are aware of is the past experience with Vermintide 2. The game that from what I know has had exactly the same issues as Darktide and took literal years to either fix those problems or the people who were pointing those problems outjust simply left, leaving it with a current stunning player count of under 3k. This is what I can expect from Darktide? After all the hype, the massive lore, the massive potential and the nearly bottomless wallets of Warhammer40k fans I can expect this game to reach the overwhelming playerbase and the absolute success of Vermintide 2. Whilst Warframe, a game that has the same concept of co-op and one could argue if reskinned could be a version of Darktide has currently 60k+ people playing, endless updates, customisation that literally can be it’s own game, is free to download and despite being released over a decade ago looks amazing. And you really think that is the future that is worth defending and that the Darktide devs are on the right track?
To me it is an absolute waste of a concept. An absolute failed money grab, an absolute disgrace that the “community” that says it cares about the game settles for not even a basic requirement of a working game, but a game that has skins released every 2 weeks for half the price of the base game and actively discourages critique and loves the echo chamber of 3k players that are left playing Vermindite 2 patting themselves on the backs that they were nice and polite and all the harsh, rude people left and they can be the good bois. This is all a farce.
Yup, it absolutely is.
As I stated in other discussions, they were sitting on a goldmine.
By now I think it is too late to get another hypetrain started and excessive amounts of new players into the game but they could show some goodwill and get atleast a stable and healthy playerbase by communicating and reacting to critiques.
i think the only thing going for this game now is that helldivers is at capacity, so not everyone can play it lmao
As much as I understand the sentiment, Helldivers 2 literally just came out, it’s not very fair to compare it like that. At least give it a month or so
Gotta agree here. I’ve only heard good from this forum - but that’s just it. From this forum.
HD2’s devs could set fire to our user base’s dogs and probably still come out ahead in opinion compared to FS at this point.
Darktide also “only came out” at a certain point, whats your point.
Both are marketed as GaaS titles and are PvE coop horde shooters, so its fair to compare them.
And even if we give HD2 some months to cool of the hype, it has already beaten DT peak by miles, that fact wont change.
It could change if FS got their heads out of their asses and actually improved the game and listen to the community, but we both know that wont happen
I have found -especially while trying to introduce people to VT2- that a lot of folks don’t like melee. Some even have a weird disdain for it. They much prefer the comfort and familiarity of pure shooters. So it makes perfect sense to me that all those other pure shooter co-ops have higher numbers than the heavily melee-centric VT2 or the “mixed combat” Darktide.
I’m sure we’ve all seen those players, especially on lower difficulties, that just hose down everything and refuse to switch to melee weapons. In the Beta/Launch days there were many posts saying nonsense like “melee didn’t fit the setting” and such. I’d imagine the only thing keeping those types around is the 40k setting, but once that pull wears off, they drift back to their pure shooters.
There really isn’t anything they can do to retain those types.
Yes and no.
DT has problems at the concept level - handcrafted maps, that you can’t choose to play, so if you just beat some map and it’s still in rotation or there are maps you don’t want to play you go into alt tab mode.
You have Destiny 2 alike hub that doesn’t work, cause there is no motivation to interract with other players, neither hub activities and mini games, meanwhile there is no hotkeys for maps, shops. etc. Aswell you can’t say who is expirienced and who is not, via mod you can find there is 1000 lvl vet and 8 lvl ogryn in the hub with you, still not enough to judge, cause it’s not an account lvl but character.
Your lvl doesn’t provide much control over itemization, you still can roll items that are pure trash compare to what you have, so game doesn’t feel rewarding, but a waste of time. Neither itemization or ammount of loot sources on that level such system can be justified.
HD2 while is more simple in some things, just works.
CUES
The word is CUES.
And yes, please fix!
alright now imma call it sound clue
Another 3 disconnects in a row. And after, when finally connected to a game end up with a team that was on the verge of being a wipe with a bot. Killed on spot. Disconnect, go to quick play, get connected to the same game - twice. This is why playerbase matters. With so few people playing your matchmaking will put you over and over in the same spot with the same people. If that map will run it’s course because others will be dropped in it it will show a death count of 10 at least. Where is the fun?
Fair
On a lot of levels I’d agree, and that’s also why I threw in other games. The big thing here is that HDII has no IP name recognition to trade off of and is still blowing the pants off pretty much every FS title’s high marks, combined.
There’s definitely a lot to this, and I was absolutely one of those players for the longest time struggling with the melee aspect. Still do kinda, always wanna shoot things when I should be stabbing them.
That said, the bigger issue more than the raw player counts is the month over month declines and the rate at which DT loses players. Right now DT’s player counts are looking more like VT2 than anything else, a title that’s now deep into maintenance mode and on the road to retirement, except its losing players at an even faster rate while the new hotness competitor title is having 70x as many people playing currently. There’s something Darktide is clearly leaving on the table.
