Game running in background unable to access

Issue Description

The game boots, but there’s no video output, as in I hear the Audio from the intro but I’m staring at my desktop. Alt+tab shows me nothing. I’ve tried changing proton versions, rebooting, but I’m new to this and really REALLY struggling. Happens everytime without fail.

System Info

Steam Proton Version: 10.0-4

Launch Commands: N/A

CPU: AMD 5600X
GPU: Ryzen 6800XT
If Nvidia-
Driver Type: Official or Nouveau/NVK (open source)

Linux Distro: EndeavorOS
Kernel Version: 6.19.11-arch1-1
Desktop Environment: Plasma(Wayland)
Display Server/Protocol: Wayland

I’ll be honest, I bit off more than I could chew. Got tired of my performance on windows and thought “Hey! I’m smart. I can probably figure this out!,” and used Rufus to install EndeavorOS onto my PC, and at first It was AWESOME! Darktide was much more stable, on windows I was getting stutters dropping my frames down into the low 30’s but since I made the switch the stutters are completely gone and I run at a consistent 60 FPS, and I’m sure I could go higher with a better monitor, but that’s when I can actually run the damn game. So I’ve been sitting here slamming my head into my keyboard for the past 6 hours trying to fix this - A very frustrated Linux Noob”

Even despite my frustrations I know I’m only struggling because I’ve only used Linux for a couple days now. Giving Linux an honest try has been a really awesome experience. having near complete control over all aspects of the machine has proven to be extremely educational and I’m already feeling the gears begin to turn in my hollow skull. I know that I can and will learn more but for now I need someone to help guide me towards a solution to this problem.

Another solution is to install Proton-GE version 10-31 or higher (instructions). It has a workaround fix by bypassing the Darktide launcher.

It didn’t have any noticeable downsides for me so far, apart from sparing me the additional mouse click in the launcher just to start the game.

So I Installed gamescope and threw this in the launch properties. but the game simply just doesnt boot now.

Here is a copy of the Steam Events Log.

Edit: Im pretty sure I’m doing the Launch options wrong. I’m going to take another look tonight.

I’ll give this one a shot tonight after work. I’m sure it’ll fix it, the question is if I can figure out how to get it running.

Zaar, you are amazing! It worked! THANK YOU!!!

My pleasure, but the real praise is deserved by GloriousEggroll. :person_bowing:

If you happen to use Heroic Games Launcher, it can install and update Proton-GE in Steam automatically: Settings → General → set “Default Steam Path” to your Steam directory (the one with steamapps, userdata, steam.sh etc. in it) and enable “Download GE-Proton to Steam directory” further below.
