C’mon, man. All we’ve been doing since launch is, basically, wonder “what the hell is going on?” We’ve been drilling ourselves and eachother with questions like “Are they breaking locks? Are they overhauling items? Are they actually going to replace the item system wholesale? Why won’t they say anything? Are more weapons coming faster once this itemization update changes up? What kind of bugs are they looking to fix and why haven’t they fixed the ones that are pretty longstanding? Why did the game launch in a state like this? Are they going to add more penances? Will they Morningstar change or receive new additions? What’s going on with literally any of the plot?” since launch. Your entire community has been doing nothing but speculate because we aren’t given much else to chew on, here, and frankly we’re all sick of it and you know that we’re sick of it.
Man, what are you doing? Why are you trying to cause more speculation when you recognize that speculation is all we’ve had and all we’ve been doing, really, since launch?
Why would you prompt more? Even looking at this from as neutral a perspective as possible, where this doesn’t make things worse or where it’s kind of a misstep or like, I dunno, anything, why on earth do you people think that what we’ve really been hungering for is intentionally vague communication when that’s all we’ve been getting for months??
I know that isn’t what DT’s current CM wants because they keep saying they’re passing feedback along and clearly sympathizes with not being able to actually communicate with the community. She seems at least in tune with the interests and needs of the community that you guys would have probably communicated literally any expectations by this point if they were around, or at least done more than browse through the same blurb the rest of us had read about a level with the Mechanicum in it and gone “You want info? Ok, ok, ok. Here. I spy, with my little eye, something that has a gear.”
Like, I’m not even gonna bother posting this to Reddit because none of them even know you’re doing the emoji thing. They have no idea. It’s not on their front page. And you could say “Yeah but we posted it to Twitter, not Reddit” and that’s kinda fair but on the other hand, I’d argue that what you’re trying to do here is extend the reach and impact of the news about this patch that you’re talking about tomorrow and you’re doing a pretty bad job if Darkside Twitter is unable to reach Darkside Reddit.
I know, and that’s honestly endearing. Like we get to see the fruits of that habit right now in Vermintide 2, it’s in the best state it’s ever been and they’re still giving it love. There’s such potential for Darktide to have a long, pleasant tail and for a real change of pace - frankly I don’t think any of us expected the class rework, for example, that was both utterly bananas and way ahead of schedule on one of their stated goals post-release, it really is proof that they are capable of positive reworks when they get the time and freedom and Vermintide 2 is also proof of that potential for surprisingly long and fruitful support - but they still don’t know how to talk.
There’s bloat. This doesn’t happen in a company unless there’s too much corporate bloat.
I really do wonder if after all the bad press, FS execs took it personally that they were constantly being called out by the fanbase and are now just trying to avoid communicating under the logic that there can’t be bad news for their screwups and greed if there’s no news at all.
I wonder if they’re worried what would happen if somebody googled them. There’s already a few choicy bits said about Martin out there, and part of the fan displeasure with Helldivers 2’s balance was fueled by the general discovery that their “Master of Balance” was one of the devs who caught a lot of the blame for outright killing Hello Neighbor. Dev names are getting more and more well known in our gaming spheres.
Tied to this, there’s a reason GW doesn’t attribute individual authorship to Codex books anymore, particularly after the one of Darktide’s writers had a few goes at it in the '08-13 period.
That said, as far as FS goes, Darktide has a list of Credits, googling anyone in particular isn’t hard, but nobody appears to have terribly large online presences, which would be fine except for how MIA the Marketing and Public Relations leadership are.
When in my more humorous moods, I like to imagine that the entire development ecosystem and community interaction is actually a meta-game where Fatshark is trying to give us a true Warhammer 40,000 emotional feeling.
We’re all just grunts (ahem rejects) - just cogs in the machine picking our way over and over through the monotony of levels. Grinding for resources that the omnissah just burns away in seeming frivolity. We appeal to the higher powers (Fatshark) for answers to our plight but our desperate cries go unanswered. We are alone and clueless, left literally and figuratively in the dark - both in game and out.
When i read Kir Bulichev “a hundred years ahead” In my childhood - there was nothing compared to novadays. Houses growing like coralls, teleporting taxi, drugs that instant get u knowledge by takin them
…
In our reality we have emoji.
I mean I agree with all of this, but I think I’ve realized lately that FS employees quite literally never read and/or interact with anything we say on here. We’re kind of just screaming into the void. I feel like we should start sending these messages through other channels like support tickets or something to force them to see it.
Am I imagining this: I thought they had these outlined but not finished pre-launch, but went with the old 3 by 6 “Vermintide2” layout to get it out the door in time.
I can’t say why I think that, just something in the back of my mind…
It’s either that or mass spamming the Discord servers until they start speaking here again ig.
They basically just sicced some Discord mods on us to do moderation on the cheap and f*cked off it feels like.
Guess they didn’t like having their screwups constantly pointed out.
Feels like February again, where everyone was ragging on FS for the whole ‘oh it’s only been a month since we got back from vacation we can’t possibly tell you what we’re working on yet’ thing. That got us ‘What’s Coming Up in Darktide’, which was…well, we’re still waiting on that itemization update. Or what’s gonna be in it. Or anything at all of substance once they pushed out Hestia’s stuff to give the completionists something to chase.
I’d say support tickets are the best bet. Whoever’s area of responsibility that is actually has to look at them as part of their job. The forum seems to be more of a gray area. If they got enough of these paragraphs of well put together criticisms, I feel like it would be more likely to generate action on their part. If we keep making a thread like this every other day, they’ll just keep ignoring it like they obviously have been. When was the last time anyone saw anyone employed at FS reply to any thread created by a community member?
