Hey! Thank you so much for the feedback and I’m passing it along to the team
Another day, another time Fatshark somehow fails to foresee their customers asking for the bare minimum and being annoyed when they fail to deliver.
No shade to you, Kitefin, but this shouldn’t be something you need to ‘pass on to the team’. This should be something Fatshark had ready to go day one.
Yes. Entangled Studio is one of them and they’ve been working with Fatshark since VT2. Fun fact: Entangled Studio’s Artstation account used to have a post with concept art for every premium cosmetic, including the expensive ones, long before they were released.
it’s still ridiculous. the new class didn’t pop up in the game overnight without skins. fs worked several months on it at least, and even longer with planning. and they didn’t think about ordering cosmetics in time?
This is what baffles me. When you consider how long it must have taken them to go from concept to release and everything in between, including writing lines for the 6 new personalities and the original 21 for them to all interact, and code in the penances, and make sure the dog works, and to code in that extensive talent tree, etcetera, it is astonishing that they didn’t have their art dept pumping out cosmetics to sell as part of the Arbitrator hypetrain, as we all so merrily blasted heretics into smithereens with hilariously overtuned shotguns.
Following is just me ranting about how I would have bought more cosmetics if they had been available.
I bought the class’s cosmetic coat on launch day, actually buying aquilas with real money for it. Me! Of all people! Me, who has moaned and complained about the cosmetics quality and how I’d not spent my IE Aquilas for over 2 years on this very forum. Then those IE ones went on the Elysian outfit when it was put back on sale, as I missed it first time around, and then I went and got the Arbitrator’s coat! If they’d had multiple sets out at launch for the Arbites, I’d have probably bought them (depending on style and quality of course). I smashed most of the class’s penances by the end of that launch week and my wallet was primed to be delved into. I’d never before been in such a Fry ‘shut up and take my money!’ meme state with this game.
It’s entirely possible that there aren’t more Arbites cosmetics available for purchase right now because of a deliberate decision by FS not to start hawking them so soon after the release of the first paid DLC in 3 years.
Given, as you and others have pointed out, the amount of planning and work to get to this point, it’s the only thing that makes sense to me.
FS is on the record recently saying they think things are going well with players coming back for big updates, so not rushing out to make an extra buck off the swelling player base post-DLC seems like a calculated move.
Probably more because Arbites is an extremely limited range of cosmetic choices. I mean they already got like all the masks and the upper bodies from the recent table top revision. Its a pretty constrained design compared to hive gangers or any of the hundreds of guard regiments. Half the blurb about the character X cosmetic pack would be attempting to paint some scenario where it would make sense.
So yeah I see the odd coat and mask, stretched and recolored a few times, and not much else in the way of regular cosmetics drops for dogcops.
Could probably give them enforcer and breacher skins but yeah pretty limited.
Penance track is now in a really weird place because Arbites penances give points. If they start adding new things to the track, it will be way easier for people who have Arbites to get it than those who don’t.
However I understand why they earn penance points, because if your first class is Arbites it would feel really lame if you couldn’t earn anything on the track.
The only way to fix it that I can think of is to make it so that there’s a fixed points limit you can earn from class penances. A person with the base game and a person with 4 dlc classes would still have to work the same on the penance track, while new players would still make progress on the track when playing a dlc class.
Maybe have an entirely separate penance tracker for Arbites that gives you the cosmetics and rewards that the other classes got in emotes and cosmetics but just for arbites.
But that would be more work than actual forward thinking about every side of the cosmetic system when they first thought about a paid character DLC.
The fatshark team can’t comprehend basic maths,
Nah can’t manage that need a cm to relay it from the community
It’s like we’re in middle management hell here.
As annoyingly noticeably often, I completely agree with you. And I could imagine that there would be many people accusing FS of being greedy if they’d released “too many” cosmetics for the Arbitrator “too soon”.
I’d buy that reasoning if not for the missing penance track and commissary cosmetics too. The release strategy of the Arbitrator is as half-baked as their scheduling and QA.
This is a good point, but, one cosmetic page at release was kind of weird. The DLC upgrade cosmetics I feel don’t count.
That’s a good point!
I 100% believe FS have gone through the process of designing/approving/commissioning/whatever more than just the cosmetics we’ve seen in the shop & files over the many months of work it took for the other teams to make Arbites.
So maybe they just haven’t released anything since the DLC launch because they know it’d be a bad look with the Arbites bugs still kicking around. For every one person asking for cosmetics, I’m pretty confident there’d be multiple people pissed about them being released while there are still significant bugs.
Eh…look, I hate the cosmetics store with a burning passion, but even I don’t care if they release cosmetics for Arbites. The class is broken? So what, what else is new about FS development.
The store existing period is evidence of catastrophic greed on FS’s part. Arbites getting in on that barely even tips the scales.
Apologies, but I find it impossible to believe that this wouldn’t cause a dust up and end up in your book.
I don’t believe GW put out many Arbites armor designs.
Black is standard, blue from the original Necromunda, and this red might be just for Darktide. So I’m guessing it might take a bit for new stuff, going for original designs and such.
The new weapon cosmetics are some of the lamest I’ve ever seen. They’re barely different from base skins! Sliiightly different colors that you would barely even notice in-game.
