Anyone else run up to a flamer or a bomber to kill them and experience their insane melee kick?
I always forget about this until I’m about to beat a flamer to death and in like 3 frames he kicks me away, stunning me and deleting my toughness and health. I’ve seen other players die to this and it’s always hilarious, like why is the kick so powerful? lmao.
This isn’t to say it’s too strong or anything, I just think it’s kind of funny, and I’ve never seen anyone else talk about this.
This is the type of “petty complaint” I can get behind (I mean it in good spirit).
I’ve always had this issue where I’m just ultra stubborn about some petty details. Every once in a while a game has something where I know what I’m doing isn’t going to work, but I feel so strongly that it should that I’m just going to keep trying it or die trying I just don’t care. Flamer kick was one of those things for me for the longest time. Like, I’ve literally died from full health just spamming my melee bc something’s wrong with my brain and keeps saying “there’s no way that thing should be able to kick me nonstop I deserve my turn already” and that’s that.
Anyway, after like idk literal months I finally learned out of that habit but… yeah. I’d forgotten all about it until I saw this topic. Not complaining mind, I think it’s perfectly fine. But I definitely get what you mean.
They definitely boot the most aggressively. It can be hard to coax a kick out of a bomber or sniper but I swear when a flamer lands right behind you they just enter melee mode. When they blew up for HP damage they were basically suicide melee units.
I think melee elites should have a similar fast punish for spacing too close.
Melee elites totally should have a similar mechanic to the flamer. The crusher does also try to punish you for getting too close by knocking you back into overhead range, but the flamer kick is less telegraphed, way faster, and much harder to dodge - it seemingly has a bigger hitbox as well.
If you back away slightly from a crusher trying to knock you back, the crusher will miss pretty much every time, while once the flamer locks onto you, they can lunge far as hell and nuke your toughness even if you make some distance. Dodge timing is still important to dodge the flamer’s insane death kick.
I think the thing that gets me the most is I will forget that snipers and flamers can kick because they’re just flaming and sniping all the time, and I’ll underestimate them in melee only to get obliterated because a sniper kicks me while I’m at like half toughness, stunning me and starting a chain reaction of agony and suffering. Embarrassingly, it has happened to me once where I’ve literally been comboed to death by flamer kicks.

Literally two days ago, our 30+ havoc run ended due to this.
After my teammate pulled out an insane clutch and everything seemed to be on the right track, a tox flamer just kind of… ran towards him from off-screen, engaged directly in melee and kicked him right in the nuts.
His huge ogryn character bent forward, collapsed to his knees and the game was over.
We were wheezing on discord for straight 5 minutes.

I got trapped in a Beast Of Nurgle, and just as it stopped preparing to spit me out, a sniper kicked me to death while I was still inside the thing. Yes. A sniper just stood there kicking the BON in it’s fat gut till I died inside.
