it’d be a good first 2handed melee for the vet and i would like to think that it’d be a powerful anti-armor tool too.
i feel like the attack pattern should go as follows. light attacks: vanguard, vanguard, vanguard. heavy attacks: strike down, strike down. special activation: stab (causes stagger).
Vanguard as light, is the best.
You want ot combine that with an anti armor strikedown, also the best… and add a special that staggers. Again the best you can find.
The anti armor is the achlys.
However, the achlys has problem when you compare it with antax/rashad.
The light attacks are targeting one enemy (they can hit several, but the animation is really targeting one). The heavy is awesome, but really slow. This means you have to pay attention to use it like a power sword (put distance between you and the enemies, start the heavy, hit them, see 5 enemies dying).
And if you look at the last patch notes, they have reinforced it against carapace. I agree that it could be better, the difference between an heavy on mauler torso and an heavy on mauler head is not significative, but still, you can aim at head as it is more efficient.
I love this axe, but I feel it needs more risks and efforts to do the same as antax/rashad. The axe itself is good enough, but not at the level of a rashad/antax. But still really fun to play with.
I think a little more cleave or a better anti armor stat (so more damages to carapace) would be a good thing for this weapon.
However, your proposition is to merge what is the best of Combat axes in one weapon. I doubt it will happen.
Early leaks showed hints of a few 2 handed weapons having been in the works. Those were the 2 handed chain-axe, 2 handed power sword and 2 handed force sword. This would be a nice selection of archetype-locked 2 handed melees imo. Ogryn should also get a 2 handed hammer/maul type of weapon to round up all of them.
man, i just want an actual heavy weapon for my vet, i don’t care if it fits what most people think, i just want a 2handed axe! plus, the other axes don’t have vanguards or relentless, just strike down and assassin, not at all what i look for in a melee weapon. you COULD name the chain axe as an axe with one of the 2 that i want, but the grip doesn’t really work because its a tube grip and not a oval grip like practical weapons.
I think the optimal 2 handed weapon for Veteran, as I agree with you that Veteran should be restricted to lighter, 1 handed melees, would be a Rough Rider Cavalry Spear. Still light and more of a finesse 2 hander than a sword or axe. It’s basically just a mundane Hunting Lance though, so no explosive tips.
I said that because i feel a “mostly ranged specialist”, in my head, need their melee weapon to be lighter for quickly equiping it/because it’s not really their main thing.
But yeah a spear is indeed pretty light, it fits the veteran or could easily be shared with the preacher.
Come to think of it, a bastard sword might be enough to be considered 2h? Something like light attacks 1h and heavies 2h.
Another idea, (tho i don’t think this will satisfy the person who was asking for 2h weapons), double knifes.
