We’ve clamored for a while that something needs to change internally for Fatshark to improve. It is clear the developers and CMs have a lot of passion for the game, so we’re pointing fingers at upper management.
Ultimately, however, I don’t know. We have very little info on how Fatshark works internally, other than the fact that teams are siloed off from each other.
See the weird part is, someone in a position of power there is able to make good decisions sometimes. Elsewise, the parts of this game we always enjoyed wouldn’t exist regardless of the level of passion. It would just be nice if the scales didn’t keep getting balanced by bad decisions.
Another ticked box on the growing list of similarities between Fatshark and Arrowhead.
(Although in Arrowhead’s defense they started with their scales more balanced towards the “good” side)
I’m guessing very few devs actually enjoy having their painstaking work creating and designing these games put through a filter of bad business practices. I wouldn’t be surprised if this dynamic was why certain people like the lead combat designer left Fatshark.
It must suck putting your lifeblood into something just so the suits can slam a shitty FOMO store on it and everyone just goes “oh it’s a cash grab”
That’s not something that the DT team decided upon, VT2 operate largely in the same way.
They, for the most part, announce future content relatively shortly before it release.
I don’t think we will ever see big Road maps from FS, for a couple of reasons, them still being in that weird Valve type flexible workflow (Which Valve is leaving behind iirc), them being on the smaller side, them having both an IP holder that is mostly known for how difficult its to work with, and them knowing since VT2 that they’re better off just releasing content by surprise.
On the topic of the future for Darktide, I came across something interesting: The company that Fatshark contracted for VT2 to help them with Chaos Wastes, Toadman Interactive, is shutting its doors:
here’s what they state their involvement with VT2 was:
Don’t wanna doompost but I am pretty curious as to what extent their involvement was (their little thing on the website isn’t that clear) and if this has implications for a Chaos Wastes style game mode implementation for Darktide
May not have specifically been the DT team, might be a larger FS thing, but several times CM’s have basically said “we’re juggling too much to stick to a roadmap”.
At least the main ‘tracks’ of that mode area already set, so they might have an easier time doing it and not need Toadman or even another outside company.
Do think that quite a few of the system have to be changed quite heavily (Mostly the weapon acquisition/switching), and that it’s a very time consuming task, and that it’s not going to happen for quite a while still.
fatshark is most likely just coming back from their holiday vacation so things are starting up and im sure well expect a devblog at least before February-march but dont take my word for it
One of the last things Catfish posted before vanishing from everything was ‘you can’t expect us to know what we’re doing, it’s only been six weeks since we got back from vacation’. So. Yeah. February or March.
Oh crud, I didn’t realize they helped with CW. I was saddened to hear about the layoff, I enjoyed Mech 5 and Clans a lot. That’s a lot of talent that didn’t deserve what they got.
If Tencent didn’t own Fatshark I am sure this game would of 100% been the next left 4 dead. Also, I don’t know if people saw but the USA is now classifying Tencent as a major Chinese military tech firm lmao
