Fatshark 'open to conversation' on Dueling Sword

Yes and?

What did he use??

Dclaw 7 laspistol, both solid A tier weapons, laspistol probs S tier tbh

That is a whole lot of yapping just to say “I need my crutch, I don’t want to have to engage with the gameplay”.

I clipped these yesterday just for you. Two particullarly clear examples of what I am on about, feel free to look through all my other Darktide clips, they are almost entirely bugs.

Thunder hammer has far better cleave.

You’re forgetting cleave. Also, the DS has a harder time fending off ragers in a toe-to-toe fight.

Helbore is a laser, hitting metal. The idea of headshotting a crusher is that you’re going for the soft spot between the chest and the neck. I could see an argument for making that the actual case, but the problem is that it’s not practical from a gameplay perspective especially since hitboxes aren’t perfect.

The thing about DS is that you really need to make it a headshot weapon, it doesn’t really work otherwise. With other larger weapons, you don’t need to aim for the weakspots to be effective. It certainly helps, but it’s not needed.

So without losing the utility and purpose of the DS how would you go about bringing these up to par without overshadowing the DS and in turn making it obsolete? In a game that focuses on dodging and speed to avoid being hit by enemies, it seems only natural that smaller weapons are used at higher difficulty levels to mitigate high damage.

I don’t think this the right approach. I think increasing its penetration, while lowering its weakspot multiplier and increasing its overall damage might be the better way to go to show that you’re “aiming for the kinks in the armor” and applying that damage where you can as opposed to being forced to make weakspot hits.

Speed and dodge alone are enough to have me consider bringing something else - anything else. My favorite is actually the DC because of its ability to parry Plague Ogryns, Ragers, and other things that unleash powerful flurries of attacks. (even the lieutenant bosses.) Using a big slow weapon like that should be rewarding. I think that stamina should be seriously lowered if we increase overall damage (inclusive of penetration) on the weapon.

Does it though? The whole idea behind a DS is that it’s one of the most lightest weapons second to a knife. But then that’s an appeal to real-world balance versus gameplay balance.

Increase everything else, bring it up to do more consistent damage. Otherwise you’ll end up with a dueling noodle. I rarely use the dueling sword anymore and I’ve got over 3k hours. I use either the Devils Claw, the Force Greatsword, or the Deimos.

I’d actually love to see someone take out a crusher horde with a DS in the time it took you to charge one swing.

Under what setting? I keep trying to use them, but I just can’t get a good use-case scenario out of them. When should I use them and when not?

I didnt say I didnt believe you.

Also, I never get guys in the wall so yeah, it might just be your computer that does it.

Answer this… why do you get these issues and I dont?

You tell me why you don’t have these issues and I’ll let you know why I and others do, because I’ve already gone through my solutions to fixing this and confirmed that it’s not my end.

Idk, maybe because I play for 12+ hrs a day and am so hyper aware of my surroundings in game that I notice more than just what is trying to kill me at any moment?

I know others with the same problems, I see others stream have the same problems and either don’t care or don’t realize how they died to a mob hitting them through a wall or they think they just missed the mob that appeared out of thin air in front of them - until I clip it and they watch it back.

More important question; why does some people not having, or just not noticing these issues, preclude Fatshark from responsibility for all those it does happen to?

Why is it so much worse on EU servers when playing from the UK than on NA East with almost 5 times the ping?

Why is everyones first reponse “it’s just you” even though it’s both proven not to be and impossible for my PC to influence what the server is doing? Why is it when I point out mobs in walls everyone else in the group sees them too?

I bet the long term missing collision mesh at the start of Chasm Station HL-16-11, the pillars to the right hand side after the broken bridge at the start is just me too - and the bit of floor just before it that anyone who slides on just right - slides through into the void? I see that one regularly and there has been posts about it previously, that got “acknowledged” but it was never fixed.

I’m not saying you don’t believe me either, but it’s really infuriating having everyone go “iTs jUsT yOu” every time it’s bought up by anyone even though there are so many people with the same issues who have given up reporting them after going blue in the face for months on end screaming into the void of “Acknowledge” bug reports that never get fixed.

infernus alone and either concentrated fire or desperado on laspistol make it S rank

I get that and I apologize if Iv been frustrating too. I guess my main thoughts are there is something we are missing here. Im also in the UK and while I get the occasional lag or fps drop, Im not experiencing the same issues.

You might be best contacting FS support directly if youve not already.

Which mark? When should it be used and not? I get the feeling not for bosses/crushers/bulwarks and not for hordes, is that about accurate?

I mean, if you weren’t always pinned down by a single rager trying to hit a DC parry with 0 stamina (instead of just poking the rager in the head with a barely-charged heavy from a DS and moving on with your life), you’d be able to watch the DS user go to work.

Ah, yeah I feel you. I’m speaking from the psyker’s perspective who can use their peril as a resource for blocking. If you use the DC as an offensive parrying weapon, and stack blocking stamina perks, it’s pretty effective I imagine (as another class). But really, I can’t speak to that.)

IMO it’s one of the best MF guns, and has crazy sustain from shock trooper. In this setup it does great damage to literally everything besides carapace, but excels at decimating ranged enemies and deleting specials (boss damage is really solid too). I know the scoreboard is of a Zealot but I don’t have enough experience with it there to comment (I imagine BP and duelist go a long way on their own though), so this is more aimed at your quoted question.

take away dueling sword on zealot he never should’ve gotten it. do that and the sword doesn’t need nerfs

How many times must I repeat this?

As someone who either lacks the skill to land consistent repeated headshots or is just building things wrong - the Dueling Sword absolutely needs a nerf. I don’t like the thing in general, it’s too cheesy, and frankly while it’s not ‘clear entire room of crushers’ in my hands, it’s still too effective versus armor.

Nerf it to be specialized against non-carapace armored enemies and you’d probably be ‘fine’. Highly mobile + anti-armor damage is too powerful, highly mobile + high damage is acceptable since it tends to be a factor of high skill.

Same. Yesterday’s patch notes referred to a ‘Duelling Sword’ ( :joy: ) but still nothing on the topic. The headshot damage and crit damage each got more than doubled in the talent tree patch release, throw on Uncanny and Agile which ignore armor and dodge limit game mechanics and, yep, completely broken.

Maybe now they’ll have a chance to discuss it… interesting to see a thread today basically staying 'stop powercreeping everything, this is turning into overwatch not a ‘tide game’.

My brother in heresy, a butt-naked Veteran with zero talent points spent can make just as effective use of the Dueling Sword as anyone else can with a full build.

There. Is. A. Problem.

Dont like it? Dont use it. Simple as.
