Fatshark, Listen:

I’m so tired of this corporate culture of hush hush, don’t say anything, leaks, leaks, NDAs, NDAs, Redtape, Redtape, bullcrap. Fatshark, buddy, you’re no Hideki Kamiya, Suda, nor Shinji Mikami. People have absolutely no faith in you working in secrecy - especially when you confide yourself to this super secret exclusive group of discorders. You lost that confidence a long, long, time ago. There’s no, “let 'em cook”, when the output is unsatisfactory.

You need to get that dev blog out as quickly as possible so you can immediately onboard feedback. It’ll help you figure out where to take the rework instead of wasting weeks of manpower on a feature that ends up being unpopular. You need to do an open beta, like you did with Versus, so everyone from all brackets can participate and share their opinions; not just your exclusive group of discorders - they are not representative of the actual in-game community that plays your games daily with randoms, they have a skewed perspective as well as a bias towards you.

In the interim you need to be upfront with your community about your “design intent” of what you’re trying to achieve with this rework. If the reason why you’ve been delaying this for so long is due in part to you wanting to retain some modicum of player retention stratagems then by god may Jesus Christ have mercy on your souls. If this new rework is going to somehow be a bigger time sink then this current system then your game is going struggle even harder. We’ve already been fooled once by your misdirection of wanting the crafting to be less RNG only for the actual system to be worse than waifu gacha games.

There’s a lot of pressure on this rework. You need to take our feedback seriously.

For the meantime before your company goes on break for multiple months leaving us with silence; could you, at the bare minimum, man, just remove the freakin’ crafting locks already so people can at least have something while you leave for break; not only will you give your company some much needed points but it’ll hold players down until the rework.

I do not necessarily agree with this part.
IF they have an actual plan for a good system, lock removal (paid for with ressources) might be part of that system.
So removing the locks now, would not necessarily be a good idea.
People might actually get unnecessarily mad about locks getting reintroduced as a removable thing in the future, if the locks were temporarily removed before that.

Then again, FS could properly communicate exactly what they are planning, and what their intentions are in regard to the rework.

Adding this to The Book of Grudges.

However, you’re probably just screaming into the void. Nobody reads these. The forum is a big containment unit for people unhappy with the game at this point, at least for Darktide.

I would even just lower the bar to just “here are the ideas we’re playing around with” or “high level think about this”

In olden :poop:posting days, I’d respond with “Goosh Goosh” autoplay video spam. Alas, those days of glory are no more. :joy:

By the way, if you listen to “Hey Listen” for many times on repeat with no break, you may start to hear “This is pain”.

From their PoV , they’re thinking “waiting for the dust to settle” is the smart move, they are too comfortable to care about their IP. Game is approaching 2 years old. Like, hello!? V2 didnt “get good” until after 4…5 years? So if we look at it from their cushy desk job, they are on pace to deliver, we are halfway to halfway yall… just hold out for 2 more fraggin’ years.

See, this is a company that’s lost money so badly they needed to get Tencent to buy them out to stay solvent after a single failed V2 DLC.

They shouldn’t be complacent.

What’s brought all this on?

The fact that crafting and itemisation isn’t ready?

Great post
One main problem tho

Fatshark don’t listen, they hate listening and community engagement
They hate the idea of making more money off good community engagement
So in the no where near future when itemisation is finally able to be conceived
It will be exactly what no one wanted and then fatshark will be suprised

Theyve been cooking for a year+ now. The food is burnt.

Certainly that’s a good comment. But I wouldn’t advise waiting for the redesign of the crafting system in this patch that’s coming out soon.
In the future, yes.
I’m betting it will be sometime next year. If they don’t do it, well…

While I agree that no communication is the worse and that when they communicate we are far from something acceptable (communication the day of the patch is not communication, a blog that gives you more questions than answers 3 days before a patch is not communication), I was really pleased by the skill tree patch that was very satisfying for me.
Where I agree is that I don’t like to not be associated especially, like you, when they failed so many times.

Here I totally disagree.
This is like saying them, " at the bare minimum, could you please destroy the entire system you developed ". It won’t happen and, after 1 year and half, you should have understood that…

Stop being so entitled. You paid for the game knowing its state and most likely you had 2 hours of time frame to refund it. If you don’t like it stop playing it!

You dropped it

“Let them cook” is only applicable if you haven’t given them a chance to cook yet.
We had them hogging the kitchen for years and hot pot is okayish in taste, but all the garnishes are missing.

No. This isn’t a “let them cook” situation. This is a “if my food isn’t here in 5 minutes, it’s the 1-star-yelp-google-yahoo review routine” situation.

I was patient myself, telling people to give them time, it will be good and all that. But that was not 1, but 2 years ago.

Even for Fatshark standards, they got back on their feet with VT2 much quicker. But with Darktide, it seems they can’t just stop cashing Ls. And it’s really sad.

You think we all here want them to fail? No. Nobody here does. But at the same time we want some respect for our time. And that is what it comes down to. This mess of a back-and-forth communication is costing them dearly every single time they should have something exciting to report. And it doesn’t make sense.

Hilariously, others and me predicted this would happen yet again in their Skulls Event announcement.
“Mention the things you have ready, don’t mention the things that are a big maybe”.

Well they did the thing, they teasered the one piece of content with big question marks surrounding it and now people jump up the banana tree because it isn’t coming.

Guiding expectation is important. Doing it wrong will set one up for failure. It would be forgivable if this was a first.
Thing is - It isn’t. This company has been in business for over 20 years, a good chunk of that time as a subcontractor where communication is key. How do they not have this down? Did they forget what they learned growing their company? What happened?!

Not to mention how lackluster this devblog was in terms of any of the information people actually want. Yeah a new map is cool and all, but you just announced the delay of the (potential) fix for for the #1 issue holding back the whole game. Is now really the time for some half-baked lore dump? We’re gonna play the map anyway, why just spoil the whole thing ahead of time and make it even less interesting once we finally get to it? It’s not just about them communicating period, they actually have to communicate well and effectively and even now they don’t seem to know how to do that to a level that verges on silly at this point. They should’ve just held off for another week or two and dropped all the info with both the interesting and less interesting bits together at the same time.

I wonder how many people make up that group? I wonder if it’s more than the number of regulars here? That’s gonna gnaw at me now.

Except that their announcements are the stuff they post everywhere, here, Reddit, Steam.
