Greetings Folks!
I’ve been debating the buying of this game while monitoring forum feedback on Reddit, Steam and these official forums to get an idea of how players are feeling so far.
My hesitation to invest in this game is prompted by the unwillingness of FatShark at the end of the first work week after the Christmas holidays to have reached out to the Community of players to address concerns, criticism and to get players excited for the New Year and what it will bring for their game.
As many have posted all over the net, ‘Radio Silence’ is the wrong strategy right now, made worse by the quoted interview with the Studio Head Magnuson stating he was happy with how the game had launched.
I look at this game and I see the typical Zerg Zombie Hordes of other games, along with the usual grotesque tentacles along the walls and oozing puss sacks, diseased exploding enemies etc, which while I’d be happy to face off against such for now, I find a little disappointing that yet another Warhammer game has chosen Nurgle corruption which resembles Zombie type games so closely in place of more imaginative depictions of other Chaos God corruption/antagonists.
I do hope that there are plans to have this Inquisitorial Ship (Mourning Star) travel to another world into the depths of another Hive City corrupted by Tzeentch for example. It’s all there for you Devs. Pink Horrors can launch warp fire (Ranged) while cackling gleefully, and Blue Horrors can run at the player horde style and when they die, split into two, then Brimstone Horrors emerge from those Blue Horrors (Lots of warp fire). You want your hordes, there you have them. Then the Avian theme of Tzeentch might mean winged mutations of Man shooting at you from the air offering players new challenges. Tzaangors created by the transformation of the Human cutlists below the city depths could also make up a sizeable portion of the mobs the player faces. While travelling the depths of the undercity, instead of the typical pulsating puss and splurging green rot, we could have the psychadellic manifestations of warp abominations about us. The levels themselves could twist and warp and offer opportunity for players to jump through the air to other parts of the level in a lore friendly fashion. Gateways, teleports, doors/walls that appear then vanish splitting up the group, total mental madness! Please push the evelope on this Fat Shark as it would be rather sad to trap players in this one city and merely expand levels to face off against just more zombie type things.
And please tell me you have at least another two main classes in the works, not just this ‘one subclass every four months’ strategy.
I can see that plenty of players are happy enough for now, but I can also see that few would argue all is well and that the game is not in need of delivering on some systems advertised/promised prior to it’s launch. Players currently enjoying themselves naturally leap to defend the thing they enjoy, which is of course understandable, as is the inevtitable reaction of those who are disappointed by features they feel are missing or systems they consider to be broken or poorly designed. We’re all Human , so I would advise people not waste time ‘white-knighting’ if you’re actually enjoying the game, surely you should be busy playing it. Let people vent, let people get things off their chest. The Game Company can surely defend itself and all you accomplish with back and for comment battles is the wasting of your precious time. Which of course you could be spending watching the Shop items, ha ha! Couldn’t resist that one.
Before I can think to hop off the fence and purchase this title, I’d like to see the higher-ups address the Community and acknowledge a few things that have not gone well, demonstrating a degree of humility and understanding of the points people have made. Youtubers enjoying & promoting the game cannot help but list off the same issues appearing in the forum posts. So it seems to me, that the vast multitude are not saying this game isn’t good, but rather, what’s missing or malfunctioning is what’s causing negative player feedback and a feeling of incompletness in the game itself. Fat Shark, have some courage and install some confidence in your product. Break Radio Silence and as some have suggested, make up a simple ‘to do list’ to let players know what problems you’re addressing first, to let them know crafting is coming and in what kind of realistic time frame a player could anticipate that. Then just stand by your product and help people feel confident you’re not going to walk away from it due to the fall-off of players. Tell them, you’re sticking with this game and the players that are enjoying it. Make this your ‘No Man’s Sky’ comeback game, but push it to the max. Go beyond just delivering what was promised and take it further.
Thanks if you read all of that. Try not to lash out or attack if you’re to respond. I know full well having not played the game yet, I cannot comment on it’s state as well as those of you who have. I know that my comment about it feeling like another zombie type thing might prompt some of you to say, maybe it’s not for me. But I’m a Warhammer fan and enough about this game appeals and has captured my interest. Mostly what I want to hear, is some proper communication from the company about what the community have said and where they see their game going, what can be expected and so forth. All the best Gang.
