I have since the game released seen many who say “Don’t Nerf, only Buff” and other similar ideas. However as a designer I can tell you this is not a great idea, but I understand where the sentiment comes from
it goes without saying the last response from fs was a bit “poorly worded” but i have to give my thanks for a new phrase i shamelessly integrated into my “work vocabulary”
“i’m working on trying” is just to good not be used when i absolute got no “bock” to do boring stuff at work
To be fair to the subject matter and those who are being targeted.
The community managers are amazing GOATS in my opinion, and they have patiently helped me out at every turn with every strange question (sorry @FatsharkJulia ) I’ve had during my time playing the game.
I get that we are all frustrated by being kept in the dark about anticipated additions, and we all want the game to thrive, but calling out community engagement (which involves attacking community managers) is highly inappropriate in my opinion.
The CMs are doing all they can, but it’s not enough. I want actual discussion from the developers themselves regarding the state of the game and its potential future. They can only parrot the “we’re working on something” excuse so many times before it’s just not believable anymore.
I agree that we shouldn’t be targeting the community managers directly, they’re just the middleman. We should be (and are) critiquing the developers for their extended silence and lack of meaningful updates.
Frankly, the fact that we aren’t seeing at the least fixes to critical issues, and then bugs that have been fixed but then somehow unfixed, signals to me that the developers don’t actually play or enjoy their own game.
I wish they would “joke” with us, I just don’t understand the radio silence at all, the tide games created a very good community and they are full of great ideas. It’s a shame really.
every time anhone working at fatshark tried to “join in” they get mobbed by salty pricks. the community’s basically a vat of acid at this point for how toxic it actually is.
This is partially true although its pretty much the same with most communities in my experience. Not that it justifies it, but its not out of the ordinary sadly.
I dont think this is true though. People are quite civil for the most part around here.
You can’t joke because nobody is in a joking mood.
If Fatshark wants to embrace the memes, it needs to win back community goodwill and trust first, but it doesn’t want to do that, or is incapable of doing that - because winning back goodwill involves things like making crafting not a series of slot machines, making the store less blatantly a cash grab, not constantly reintroducing new bugs, or putting out content more often than a single map and some weapon variants every four months.
The real joke is calling this a live service game. I wonder what happened behind the scenes to make that decision and I wonder when/if they realised that was just not happening.
there’s no winning back goodwill for the forums and discord, because the only things they want is to completely rebuild most of the out-of-mission mechanics and all that stuff is already set in stone at this point. just look at the giant pile of compromises they’ve given to weapon customization compared to how it was planned at release.
In the Versus subforum Quickpaw responded about some of their design decisions and what their thoughts behind them were.
That is great. I appreciate it and want to point it out here separately. @Aqshy@FatsharkQuickpaw
I disagree. A good joke is always a good thing. But just like with any communication, a meme can be infused with any type of energy and also interpreted wrong by the reader.
A joke at the expense of players often doesn’t land, while too much self-depreciating humour can come off as eventual Defeatism or mockery.
I do think that some people will always find a way to be offended, but those should not be taken into the picture. Those are the people so disgruntled, they post unrelated angry notes on patch news and that’s fine to ignore.
That Live Service thing was a one off comment from an interviewer, not an actual dev. Essentially, classic modern journalism - Not properly listening to the interviewee right, then communicating the expressed idea poorly by rephrasing it.
There is actually not a single quote out there by Fatshark calling the game itself Live Service. The actual dev in the interview only spoke of regular updates (without a time frame given - every 3-4 months is regular).
This goes to show how dangerous communication via third parties can be.
Simple: they were coming up on deadlines and figured if they released it as ‘live service’ they could get away with the absolutely bare-bones everything about the game. Same as basically every other game that advertises itself as such.
Basically this. The CMs have a credibility problem at this point because I refuse to believe ‘we’re working on something, but we can’t give you any details or any idea of when it’ll come out’. I may be an idiot, but I do possess the power of basic pattern recognition.
Yeah, I somehow doubt that that interview got published without Fatshark approving it and the ‘live service’ comment. Can’t get ahold of the actual issue right now, admittedly, but saying it’s a third party’s fault seems like a deflection from the fact they at minimum claimed we would see narrative content in ‘upcoming weeks’ that turned into ‘months’ and eventually ‘nearly a year’.
Nothing about the speed of this games progress is a surprise to me really. Everything is proceeding exactly as I predicted although Id hoped I was wrong on that.
The one thing that did surprise me is the FOMO shop. I didnt see that coming.
