Fat Shark, Please give reward incentive to play your game

I am the only one out of my friend group still playing ‘occasionally’ every other month or so. 2k+ hours, we’ve cleared H40, we have titles, cosmetics… the issue is for every new restart of a season to reach h40, there just is no incentive left once you do it the first time. I mean even a title for god sakes, the cosmetics you gave us were sick! I loved that the elite in the game get really cool cosmetics for being genuinely good enough to do it. Why isnt this a seasonal thing? new cosmetic to show off you achieved something?

Trying to get people to come back to this game is dreadful, it went like this:

Friend seems interested in coming back, asks what new cosmetics released for havoc, i tell him none, he youtubes some random Mr. E vids to update himself on the state of the game and posts them to me. I watch them to and then say yeah it seems not much has changed since youve left a year ago and he replies “thats the exact feeling i got”

Fatshark, you gotta give us more than you’re giving man, this is ridiculous.. I dont think any of us want more classes, we want basic things like more maps, incentive to play for rewards… BETTER cosmetics? Its now been 11 months and Arbites still hasnt gotten a cosmetic lol what on earth are you people doing over there?

I know this is a compiled jumble of rapid thinking but I am genuinely upset a game with great mechanics that has fun, fast paced gameplay cant even keep up with the demand of its playerbase like other companies can. I liked the chaos waste element you brought but again NO reward, h40 after doing it once? no more rewards… and ive done enough penances to earn all the rewards that are there to be earned… can you actually give rotational or seasonal rewards??? somthing? anything?

Fatshark decided to make a live service game while being abjectly unprepared to do a live service amount of work. Simple as that.

For me the incentive is the fun game play. I play other games, do other things with my life. Then come back to this when there’s new events or friends want to play or just because I haven’t played in awhile. Or I see a new build video online I want to try. Something like that.

I don’t think we should lock so much cosmetics behind havoc 40. We already have too many people not ready for it chasing the true survivor penance. I would rather keep the super hard content to just be for the challenge itself.

I do think we need to balance the game a lot though and that will add a lot of freshness. Testing reworked talents, abilities, weapons, etc. can provide a lot of fun looking for new ways to play. Will also potentially make havoc harder.

While I do agree that seasonal rewards would be goode (even VT2 weaves had unique frames from each season)

Are you sure you’re not feeling bored because of always using the same stuff? Shuffle around, try unpopular things and from there it’s a world of new experiences

ive done what you suggested a lot actually, its the only fun I have, that and helping in Havoc but my buddy has a point… he wont even come back if there isnt a “purpose” regardless of fun

Feels weird to only play a Game to unlock things but I suppose that’s why gacha games exist

Events should have aquilas!

im not saying give away premium skins… I am saying Moebian 53rd was really freakin cool and a great reason to try/push havoc… it looks great in the color gradient as well all black sleek, looks sick as hell! but the issue is that after you do this once, there is no seasonal push to keep playing the mode… you get true survivor, and the gear and you can just play malice/damnation/auric or whatever or the new mode and ignore havoc for all eternity. I am also arguing this for the chaos waste mode, there should be rewards reaped…

For a lot of us this is no longer a reality

Havoc has became the only place where you can be challenged

Yep for a company that’s seemingly obsessed with rEtEnTiOn, you’d think a set of unique cosmetics would be some seriously low hanging juicy fruit and an easy W for offering incentives

Probably a hot take, but if you need incentives to play a game (be they achievements/titles, cosmetics, or events)… you don’t really like the game you like the feedback of getting something.

Now, you can like having those rewards as a bonus or as something to work toward as part of the gameplay loop. But I see a lot of “I won’t buy X unless they add Steam Achievements!” or “I need Frames and Titles from Havoc,” and that’s something else entirely. I’m willing to hear any counter arguments you may have.

Working towards something, is fun for some people. I can also understand that just playing the mechanics of the game can be fun for some people. This doesnt mean my understanding of what makes something fun is flawed, or wrong. It means I want something to work toward, progression, something I can look forward to.

i agree with you mostly, but i think fun achievements or something like that can add to a game. i liked having the actual completionist goal of playing every misison on the highest difficulty with every career in vt2. i would’ve probably done it anyway but it’s just kinda fun to get a little something for it, a frame, that you can then slap on that career and go “yep, complete”

i don’t really like having grindable progressive stuff, like carrot on a stick stuff, but features for completionism like that in particular are cool

to be honest, different subject for a different topic I am sure but I agree with you, and I am also in this same spot. It’s fun, dont get me wrong because I am not pushing Havoc to be the MAIN game mode or anything. I just think we need something to look forward to at this point every season of Havoc. when it starts over, give us something easily rewardable and obtainable and something that wont take a lot of time (IE: re-skin/re-color) as an exclusive reward. I mean if you want to play 1 hour a month in darktide and call it, and you never touch havoc thats fine too! I dont care how people want to play the game personally. I also think that there could be “time spent” rewards, for maybe players who arent that great at the game, or who dont play often, but give incentive to login and get your “daily” rewards… we had that in vermintide 2 at least. The same can be said for the chaos waste mode, i mean in V2 chaos waste was how a lot of us got our reds! lol… because you could collect 4 red creates and hop on an alt and just open them all. The unfortunate part about V2 is while i invested thousands of hours in that game, it took me thousands of hours to collect every single red for every single class! So it was time well spent, and i dont regret it. Since the system is so different in DT, I imagine a sustainable reward effort would be in the form of cosmetics (which V2 also did, and for every single mode mind you)

New enemies. Balancing. More linear maps. Free the modifiers, put old events into rotation.

dude you’re speaking my language! same! i have all achieves in v2 and i have all red and i spent thousands of hours gridning for it, (read my previous post) I would just like something for the effort, something to look forward to, you dont even have to call it an ‘incentive’ because that sounds forced gameplay. I do have fun playing, i just want stuff to show I enjoy it… thats really it. I used get on wow after the first three months of each season just to hit 2k for the title and gear, and then quit, new season? log on and get 2k and repeat… I guess you could call that an incentive but the new gear nonetheless and the exclusiveness of the titles made it something to look forward to rather the same old grind over and over. especially since we have only gotten barely any new maps.

As I said we could get Weaves style frames or titles for each season

and i’d be totally thrilled for that

Which is why I didn’t mention “fun.” I said “enjoy the game.”

Gonna preface this with the caveat that this is a generalization and isn’t specifically about you, and there are exceptions. For you, the game matters less than the reward, which is fine. The game still matters the same way that I love caramel but won’t “get my caramel fix” from a Caramel Latte because I despise coffee. The vehicle in which you get the thing you want still matters, just less than the thing you want. You’d play a worse game if it offered you the rewards that Darktide doesn’t, or more specifically, you wouldn’t play a better game unless it specifically rewarded you. It’s not “wrong” to play like that, it’s just a fact that the game itself isn’t enough for you to play it. Even if it was objectively the greatest game ever made, if it didn’t give you incentives to play it, you more than likely wouldn’t.

That’s the critical difference between the two groups. There are people that won’t even install the game unless it gives them a reward for playing it (i.e., the “No Achievements, No Buy!” Group). They don’t want to play a game, they want to collect trophies. Again, nothing wrong with that, but I’m just making the observation that those people don’t “enjoy the game” they “enjoy the reward”

Disagree. It’s just a different way to give new and simple (and appealing!) goals when everything else has become stale. I absolutely adore DT and the gameplay but I’ve played all the maps to absolute death and flogged the carcass into the sea.

The penances, when released with sister whatshername, was AMAZING and gave so much fresh content to enjoy without actually dropping huge asset rich content.

Again, it’s just low hanging fruit that could easily give extra life.

It’s not a binary case of ‘gameplay’ or ‘incentives’ but a nice ying yang of both imo
