Enemy spam - Ogryns

well, at least I handle them just fine instead of going full

“won’t anyone slow down and think of da tactics”

please I need to

behind a box before I decide how to engage 2 crushers…

Da tactics…..

I am not getting roflstomped by the current gameplay, btw, I just wish for enemies to be more powerful individually. You know, killing a 10 000 Crushers takes away from their menacing factor, a problem that Chaos Warriors in VT2 did not have. I want to see a Crusher/Bulwark/Reaper and think “Uh oh, it’s that powerful enemy! I better quickly get ready for this engagement/take cover before I get crushed/stomped/turned into swiss cheese” and not “Oh look another weakling for me to kill in a matter of seconds.

Basically, I want every elite enemy to have weight and spamming them in horrendously high numbers only makes them look weak and pathetic.

They did reduce the Crushers spawn rate, actually.

The issue is that the Rotten Armor modifier force-spawns Crushers, Maulers and Scab Ragers which completely undermines this reduction in spawns.

So basically you want “retreat” being the standard reaction as opposed to the fast paced fun we have now, gotcha

“erst mal abwarten und Tee trinken”

Sounds like very engaging combat to me.

I mean sure, make beefier enemies but leave the speed of which we engage them head on intact, for I for once dont like the way of “cowardice”

That option or

When I was talking about taking cover, I more meant the Reaper. I imagine he should have higher resistance to suppression so it would be easier for him to start blasting at us instead of covering in fear. And when the Reaper starts shooting, you don’t want to be in his line of fire.

You say undermines, I say restores :joy:

tbh I think its good we have modifiers that change the game in these ways.

and maybe someone, instead of crouching behind a box, achieves that by being in his face before he even starts his shooting animation.

by fast past action maybe, instead of being passive?

whenever I hear that “clank” of a stubber being “cocked” and it’s closer than 10 meters, the choice is to whack what’s holding it not waiting for a pattern to play out and slowly croach in between volleys.

this aint no cover shooter and should never devolve into it.

complain all one wants about fatshark but their mixed melee/ranged combat flow is bar none

and a vital part of that is speed

“It undermines”, “it restores”, it all comes down to the same thing. We still have enemy spam and something must be done about it, because there is not nearly enough people masochistic enough to play Havoc 40 Rotten Armor and Encroaching Graden/Contaminated Stims.

Free the modifiers?

What about it?

That’s what hordes of groaners and poxwalkers were meant to be. But those may as well be flies, because any weapon in the game just swats them away and dead and you can just ignore them while whacking around elites.

Elites are meant to be threats either individually or in small groups.

I know it’s tiring, but I remember V2 individual Skavenslaves poking you in the back for 1/3th of your health.

It would be a solution I think. If people were free to choose they could choose whatever spam they liked.

That’s exactly what I suggested in my original post. Have the vanilla Darktide have no enemy spam while also having a rotation of all modifiers, some of which have enemy spam (although, probably slightly reduced to go less hard on the engine).

Maelstroms do have a rotation of many modifiers like scab spam, boss spam etc

And yet, so many modifiers are used once and never again by FS. We could have so much more variety in the gameplay if only the feedback to free the modifiers was taken by the CM and given to the devs. I’m sure they would happily do it, if only to see all the things, that they’ve put work and effort into, enjoyed by the players again.

Agreed!

Its honestly so frustrating when my fave modifiers are on a Mael and I only get one or two chances to play it :sob:

Yeah, I get it. When I go back to VT2 it does feel more balanced in that regard. You do feel smaller. But at the same time VT2 feels so much slower. In more ways than one. You can’t sprint, slide, dodge slide, etc. But the lack of constant enemies? I really like shock troop gauntlet, for example. Lots of specials, and most of them could one-shot disable you if you’re playing solo. The adrenaline is great. And I got over 1000 hours in VT2. But after 1000 hours now in Darktide, I prefer darktide for the feelings it elicits, even if it’s balance is indeed all over the place.

Darktide has a lot more focus on range and I think it’s hard to have every weapon and method seem impactful while keeping the enemy numbers low.

I think it’s mostly a style/preference difference. Having fewer stronger enemies that players attack together (monsters and captains). Or elite/special spam and each individual player is taking out a lot of them. I think both can work just depends what you want to do and what the experience to be.

Having bunches of elites isn’t an issue for Ogrynheimer or flame psyker. Even martyrdom zealot with an eviscerator. Vet with krak or boltgun against walls of carapace. There’s pretty easy counters.

Personally, I think darktide still needs a lot better balance and I wouldn’t mind elites being stronger and us weaker in relation to them, but I don’t want Vermintide 2 levels of spawns. That’s way too low when I come back to Vermintide for events.

And apparently poxwalkers are still the most deadly enemy in terms of player kills :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, it’s not just the feeling that’s important here. It’s the engine. As it is right now, the engine that runs DT simply can’t handle that much enemies. That is the main reason why enemy spam of the elites, should be reduced. It can stay this fast-paced, run and gun or slash game, but with more powerful elites that are sent in by the AI director in smaller numbers.

That would be Groaners, not Poxwalkers, but yeah.

since I loved darktide from day one in beta I went and got me vt2 as well…

stuff like that though, besides the fact killing rodents give me not nearly the same gratification as humanoid enemies, I honestly never played it.

wrote it off as an “appreciation gift” for the devs that gave me darktide but I just can’t get into the slow pace….

Is it the engine or the client devices? Purely technically. My computer, and network and servers I guess I connect to for Darktide, I don’t have a single performance issue these days. With mods. So I think I personally can handle the spam, maybe not others and the listed “minimum” hardware on the store front for Darktide but I don’t seem to have issues unless we’re meaning something other than performance issues when we say “handle” (like the AI isn’t acting properly or something).
