Endless, or atleast, Extended Mortis Trial Mode?

As a Pysker, I enjoy Mortis Trials as it makes me feel like a true Psyker with how strong I can get. But by the time I get that feeling its almost over!

And I know people are yearning for new modes, but until all that is fleshed out, just making it so Mortis Trials can go longer, or infinte, itd be nicer! But I’d also want to add that after Round 12 you could then pick another Majoris to go with your previous one and get that going. OFC the Game would have to adjust to the power-spike you get, but its atleast something interesting.

Im no game designer, I admit, so I don’t know if this would be “EASY” to do or if theres some wacky coding that could mess it up. But Mortis Trials, atm, is a sort of forgotten mode and is in-need of some more stuff there to keep it interesting. As when it does get interesting, the game ends.

Also I would assume there’d be a ‘Back Out’ option after round 12, a way to get the rewards still but you’re not forced into another 40ish minute, or more, series of rounds.

IDK I’m just spitballing an idea here, as I sorta wish the mode got a bit more love to it.

Trials is such a milktoast mode compared to Chaos Wastes in Vermintide.

There’s no planning, no additional challenges to speak of, you just sit there, wave your melee around and hope for good perks.

I would love for them to expand it into something better, but i’m pretty sure they already struggle to come up with lore that would justify all the cool stuff they’d want to do.

Hell, can’t even get better optional scopes for Veterans…

Good thing it wasn’t made to be Chaos Waste… But rather Fortune of War

The only thing that really should have been different is the narrative introduction, where rather than having it be training, it should have been a Psyker vs Sorcerer duel between Sefoni and a Dreg Sorcerer using us as part of the ritual.

I see it as giving people a power fantasy… Literally. You’re in a fantasy created by Sefoni and you get a load of insane buffs.

The devs gave the people what they asked for, but were kinda literal about it as a joke.

Mortis trial would have been such an enjoyment IF:

  • there was no bonus (indulgences… my god… so arcadish)
  • there was unlimited waves with an increase of the difficulty
  • no pause between waves… eventually a mechanic to deliver support like a valkyrie that brings back a dead player (no poss to revive a player that has fallen except by reinforcement) and a minimal support (1 ammo crate and 1 medikit)

Here I would love… and with MORE and MORE hordes… a last man on the hill in warhammer 40k. HERE, I would have LOVED and would have even asked more of that.
But mortis trial made by fatshrak (without capitalized letters)… no thanks.

Going through the Mortis Trials for the achievements was one of the most soul sucking, sluggish, repetitive, masochistic things I have ever done in Darktide. This game mode is just… no.

In other words, anything that would improve it is welcome in my book, though ultimately, I do not give a flying fahrk. Which makes me think, why did I even bother writing this? Haha. Sharing my honest thoughts I guess after being a victim of the game mode. :coffin:

I think firstly they need new maps in general for the main game. Map design is pretty peak in Vermintide 2.

Anyway, after we get new maps then they can just scrap Mortis Trials to either implement chaos wastes or at the very least add an endless mode to the trials. Eventually even on Auric difficulty with a bad set of boons you will win and there isn’t much of a challenge. Vermintide 2 cataclysm chaos wastes is very difficult and fun.

I’m not sure they will add another rougelike mode tho. Perhaps with the same boons as Mortis has, but it would be kinda lame.

I have a feeling Mortis is FoW+CW.

This is fun only for so long. Fatshark doesn’t do things this way - each map has to have a finite and eligible objective to complete. „Just survive” is not going to cut it.

Giving a possible out after X rounds, but being able to go much further just for the heck of it would be cool, only problem I’d see is the ending not being able to keep up after the player get over buffed.
