What are some easy wins when it comes to making new weapons? We all want them, but surely there’s got to be some relatively easier things they could do that aren’t starting entirely from scratch?
Prompted by a thought of how the Double Barrel could really use some variants. It’s easy; our current one is the short-barrel, add a long-barrel. Tighter spread, longer range for max damage. There’s even a skin with a longer barrel already in the game!
Or how about Infantry Lasguns with bayonets instead of flashlights? Can re-used animations from Helbore!
Ogryn knuckledusters! There are already several punching animations in the game (and a slap) let me square up to a pogryn and have a proper bout of fisticuffs already!
new marks for existing weapons like a bretonian longsword moveset for blaze greatsword or relic blade, new crusher mark obv reusing vt2 movesets possibly the coghammer which is all i could come up with on the fly
This is a good point. One of the things that stands out to me about Fatshark’s design is that it SHOULD be easily scalable, but they don’t realize that. Doom nailed this in 1993, yet it’s lost on so many game makers today. Early in the game, when you have a pistol, shotgun, and super shotgun, fighting smaller numbers of low- or mid-tier enemies is still a challenge. Having a couple rockets is your “oh crap” button. Then you get the plasma rifle and BFG and tons of rockets, and now you can face hundreds or thousands of higher-tier enemies at a time. There’s challenge at both tiers through controlling what tools are available to the player.
Any attempt at going “underarmed” in DT is going to be foiled by the game still trying to throw everything and the kitchen sink at players, and in addition to that you can’t control your team’s loadout in randoms (and can’t even solo play!).
The current event is so boring I was bringing intentionally gimped builds for some fun, but every other player was bringing Plasma-Krak-DS Vet or Rampage Scum with Boom Bringer and Needle Gun. It was ridiculous.
I figured that I’d expand upon the idea of a Wyld Bow for Hive Scum!
Here’s how I’d make it work in Darktide:
Because it’s a Bow, it should have a built-in Passive that requires Enemies to be closer to detect you than they would normally, to show that it’s a “silent” Weapon.
Give it a visible arc, like that of Ogryn’s Rumbler, simply to account for the difference in Map Design between Vermintide and Darktide. However, rather than being static, its visible arc (as well as its Damage) should adjust with your draw length like TLoU’s Bow.
I think that it’d be cool to change Arrow “types” as its Special. The default Arrow “type” could be Chem with an AoE like Kerillian’s Hagbane Arrows from Vermintide?
portable trench “shield” tool/weapon for vet, basically a “shield” you can “plant” to make a cover whenever you are. Like genovese crossbowman were famous for.
Does 40k have human-sized one-handed power axes? That seems easy enough. You did say that weapons made from scratch wouldn’t be that easy but the lack of two-handers like spears, halberds, and axes or chainaxes blows.
I’m also shocked they haven’t recreated beam staff after all this time.
Also has a powerpack and a bunch of copper wire in the handle.
The Mk II tac axe doesn’t have a powerpack but it has what looks like a socket for a cable at the back of it which makes me think it’s a power axe missing it’s power supply.
I’m 99.9999% sure these were poweraxes at one point during development but got changed (for some reason) after the models were already done.
Ye, Tactical Axes seem to have been at some point planned as Power Axes, dunno why they weren’t made as such, leaving Combat axes as the normal/mono edge weapon.
