Dueling Sword: How is it now . . .?

Asking because I actually rarely use the thing. I just always found the moveset to be pretty uninteresting. I dislike the parry change, personally, I didn’t think the problem with the weapon was so much its special (which was, granted, good), but its sheer over-stattedness in terms of crit weakspot damage. I am really surprised, it seems like it would have been easier to just tweak the stagger values on the poke than completely change the ability, but that’s a random thought of mine.

I finally did some runs with it the other night, post-change, and it still seemed very, very strong, no matter which version you use (I tried all three). I don’t see people talking about it as much, though.

Maybe because it’s been discussed ad-nauseam?

It’s a toothpick that buffs DoTs to unreasonable levels, has incredible damage stats and S tier mobility, yet thanks to what must be rule of cool, it’s probably not ever getting a nerf.

I wondered if it was just that. Just going by the patch notes it didn’t seem to be much except a side-grade, the damage reduction looked so small. I just thought there would be more outcry about its lack of meaningful change to its damage potential.

We need to seize the means of Cool from the Dueling Sword and distribute it evenly amongst the proletarian weapons, like the Combat Axe and Double Barrel Shotgun.

I mean, it’s still the defacto best weapon on 3 classes and the metric all enemies, new weapons and talents are balanced around.

They gave it parry so you can’t cheese mutants, ragers, and crushers so at least that’s something.

Shivs and scum happened too, wtf are shivs honestly this game is getting pretty screwy if two drillbits plugged into handles are the best weapon in the game…

It’s so easy to nerf DS it’s actually baffling they didn’t do it yet

1- Replace Uncanny Strikes with Executor
2- Remove stagger from all light attacks, and Thrust heavies (mk2 H2 and mk5 heavies would keep their stagger)

Boom, the following has been solved:

  • No more DoT leaking
  • Efficiency against carapace will go down, but it will still be a really good option against it
  • thrust and lights no longer having stagger means that horde and ragers can actually reach you, forcing you to either parry, push and/or keep your distance with the long reach it has, as well as not being an instawin button against gunner

Next class is gonna have two unique melee weapons: the two handed glaive of imperial justice powered by a black hole and a spork, and the strongest weapon is gonna be the spork because it’ll have a x5 finesse mod and 120% crit chance. Darktide, the game.

Uncanny Strike breaks the game. All weapons with it are too good. This isn’t new data. Try running the Dueling Sword without Uncanny and check back with me if you still think it’s broken.

Give the Eviscerator or Heavy Sword Uncanny and you will see a new meta overnight, lol.

Really, you grant too much nuisance to uncanny strike…
This is not uncanny strike that is making this weapon a monster. You could remove it that it would not change that the weapon has big problems.

It’s strong without uncanny, you are right. But uncanny is the common factor for so much BS it should be dealt with before tuning the sword underneath it.

Yeah, it was good in the hands of players who understand melee. Thank goodness they nerfed the 5th most OP thing about this weapon :weary_face:

I don’t deny it
I have even say that they should replace uncanny for ALL weapons. Rending/brittleness is a problem in the game.

What I would like is that we stay cautious about pointing one thing as THE problem.
DS is too strong without uncanny.
Uncanny is a problem by itself.

Yeah need to do something. But to be honest right now I don’t have seen anyone really use it and ruining my game experience. Pretty meh players using it. This is not the case with the grenade spam o’death vet who’s killing everything in two seconds and ruins my combo, bonus build.

Yes which is why I’m essentially removing nearly all stagger from it as well

Big reminder that the best way to cancel Trappers/Dogs with DS is by hitting a light on them, now you’re forced to push or not use DS4

Thrust blessing is used on nearly all DS, meaning that now it gets to stagger nearly anything with easy and long reach pokes. Removing stagger from thrust attacks would make the Thrust blessing no longer stagger anything

Also Maulers, enemies that get staggered very easily would no longer get staggered by DS

This is a fair change I think. But nothing will happen so we all loose our time.
