My favorite are the few voicelines where the Ogryns banter with eachother, usually trivial stuff like one Ogryn threatening to beat the others ass for snivelling. It’s pretty funny because of how real the banter is
Male Seer Psyker and Female Loner Psyker. Male Seer is a riot with his maniacal laughing and ranting about dreams. Female Loner is entertaining with her witty banter, dry sarcasm and cynical attitude towards the Imperium. Female Loose cannon is also a riot to listen to.
This may seem frivolous amongst the more pressing changes players have been asking Fatshark for, but some more banter lines would be great and some kind of bio players could write themselves that would appear when players inspect their character so there’s actually some more depth to the characters players create.
I think one of the big issues with dialogue in Darktide is that it barely ever plays on higher difficulties. On Aurics, even on regular Damnation, you barely ever get to hear character dialogues anymore because they refrain from plaiyng when there’s too many enemy callouts etc, which is pretty much always the case on higher difficulties now due to non stop enemy spam.
One of the biggest beneficial changes they could make for the games dialogue and characters would be fixing the pacing by addressing the enemy spam balance problem. VT2 on highest difficulties struck a very nice balance between “this is a horde game and no moment is safe” and “there’s slight downtime so our characters are discussing something cool I havent heard before” and Darktide is missing that balance hard. I felt like dialogue provided some replayability so it’s a bit of a shame. The aforementioned ogryn dialogue for example only ever played once for me, ever. And I played this game for over a thousand hours. I doubt most people playing this game ever even heard it, instead all that is played in an average mission is the same “WHAT IF THE FREAK IS A DANGER TO US?” and “STUPID, BUT EFFECTIVE!”
Agreed the good dialog keeps me going even heard a pretty astounding one with my Female loose cannon the other day forget what it was but kinda ended on a @#$^ You statement was like “wow” “sorry my character said that lawl”
Ok here’s my voice acting tier list. Been thinking about it for a while but never got around to making it.
S Tier
Loner Psyker (Male) - Angry German Man is impossible to dislike. He may be loud and annoying but he’s hilarious.
Seer Psyker (Male) - Just a silly little guy. Having fun and being not-quite-sane.
Loose Cannon Veteran (Female) - Bloodthristy and willing to focus when there’s work to do, and is otherwise relatively relaxed. Lot of emotions in her lines.
Professional Veteran (Male) - The foil to the Loose Cannon, of course, but I’m particularly a big fan of how he sounds more mildly inconvenienced than anything when downed.
Cutthroat Veteran (Male) - I don’t like this guy and wish he would stop being so butthurt about Cadia but the Effort™ put into his voicelines is unmatched.
Fanatic Zealot (Female) - I’m impressed with how much she can roll her R’s. Also love how much it sounds like she’s having fun with it.
Agitator Zealot (Male) - Not having fun with it, but puts his heart into it anyways.
Brawler Ogryn - Really puts the “dumb” and “stupid” in Ogryn, and sound the part, too. An absolute riot and guaranteed to make you giggle.
A Tier
Bodyguard Ogryn - Love this guy. He’s dumb, but he’s not stupid. Heavy Weapons Guy. Not much else to say.
Bully Ogryn - My personal favorite, but not really bombastic enough like the S tiers to be the Most memorable.
Judge Zealot (Male) - I like his voice and the way he emphasizes words. Very impressed with his ability to stay stone-cold serious even when cracking a joke.
Fanatic Zealot (Male) - Not quite as good of a performance as his female counterpart, but still good. SCREAM MORE, OLD MAN.
Loner Psyker (Female) - Despite having the same voicelines, manages to have a completely different personality than her male counterpart somehow. Unfortunately, I like it less, but it’s still good.
B Tier
Savant Psyker (Both Genders) - A painfully dry voice for a painfully dry character. They at least get the vibe right, so I can’t put them any lower. Also they sound pretty much the exact same.
Loose Cannon (Male) - He has One voice and that is “out of breath and sarcastic”. Boring. Not terrible, though.
Cutthroat Veteran (Female) - She doesn’t really sound angry? Just kinda irritated. I liked the SALT on your counterpart, girl.
Agitator Zealot (Female) - Not as good. She does good with emphasis, but it still somehow falls flat.
C Tier
Seer Psyker (Female) - Kinda misses the secret sauce that Male Seer gets. Also suffers from “one voice syndrome”.
Judge Zealot (Female) - Another unfortunate victim of “one voice syndrome”. Lacks the bombasticness of literally every other Zealot voice. Still not as bad as the one in D tier, though.
D Tier
Professional Veteran (Female) - Forgot to practice before showing up to work. Literally no effort at all put into any of her voicelines. It’s so bad to the point that it starts hurting my fun if she’s in the game. Fatshark please re-record.
Brawler Ogryn: “Shouty… do you ever worry that the Emp’rah can’t hear you?”
Agitator Zealot: “Betimes, Slab. In moments of doubt. Not that I am afflicted often, thou understandeth?”
Brawler Ogryn: “But he does hear you, right?”
Agitator Zealot: “Yes. Yes, of course he doth. Clearly, and with precision. My observances are a seam of gold amid the dross. He wouldst never forsake me. Never!”
I had/was going to bring up the first one you got mentioned there, had that one happen the other day as I’ve been running around with my veteran a bit more recently, and it cracked me up. “PLEASSE commissar, can I shine your boots with my tongue?” got me good XD.
Love the ‘now your damned’ line when I hear it to, to go along with that I enjoy “Careful, don’t you know my sins are contagious?”.
It’s posts like these that make me wish the character creation was retconned to be falsified reason for the imperium to imprison them because I’d love to hear more about each ones back story and history in interactions
Is that the female Professional vet who says “Amateur.” at a struggling with the plasma gun
Loose Cannon vet? One of the few good lines / interactions she has, but also her interactions with the Bodyguard Ogryn.
Obviously the German psyker wins it all, the self-important, arrogant kant he is.
