Dogs

If sound cues are going to remain broken forever and all we get is the mid leap growl of dogs for warning (if we’re lucky) then for the love of God can dogs please not change direction mid-air. This has happened to me countless times since machine god update and it’s pure nonsense.

It seems to be when you’re much closer to the leaping dog that it occurs more. Many times I have cleared their line of attack and they magically ‘snap’ on to me. This is not cricket.

I’m all for some enemy buffs, but outright cheating isn’t the way.

Dodging dogs that appear from nowhere and with no sound cues is now challenging enough. We don’t need magic airbending dogs too.

That is weird. I do play every day but I never experienced dog changing direction mid air :arrow_right_hook:

Regarding the sound cues, I would say it’s reliable for 90% of the time. In my experience dogs always bark 0.5 - 1 sec before they jump. The 10% problem that I have is when they don’t make any sound at all before they are ready to jump, so I did not prepare myself to react to the actual jump and got dogged.

From what I understand about sound cues in this game, if the enemies are directly behind your back (180 degree), you can’t hear them. And that’s messed up. It’s from my personal observation and I really want FS to confirm if this is true. Especially when it comes to cues from specials.

Can somebody tag FS staff about this? If it’s true that we can’t hear sound from a special directly behind us, please reconsider changing it.

I’ve seen dogs change direction at origin of leap post-update, and ‘bounce’ off stuff along the path of the jump, but I’ve never seen it randomly change direction in midair.

I’ve only noticed it when Im very close to the dog that’s about to leap.

On that point though, once a dog has chosen it’s direction and (if) made it’s sound cue, then direction should not be allowed to change imo, otherwise it’s just pure luck.

I’m not sure if I’m explaining it very well - kinda tricky with this subject. Apologies if I’m being confusing.

We could start with dogs also actually FACING the target of their pounce. I had at least few cases where a dog did not face me yet leapt at me. I thought initially that might be DLSS related, but I had footage confirmation form a guy in my squad which clearly shows the hound leapt at me without turning to face me. Good you can at least push them mid leap.

Well at least this isn’t VT2 with its assassin nonsense.

This sounds very much related to the issues I’m having with dogs. Their attack system needs to be consistent and make sense.

I wonder if you’re on to something there. That could well be it. Wonder if the rendering of rear sounds is too quiet.

ofc on the other foot, for most of us, it’s a moot (not mute  ) issue as those targets ahead you can see, so you probably don’t notice the lack of sound.

I wish this was that simple. I had multiple cases where I passed a trapper on her totally silent run towards my team mate. She was in the plain sight in the front of me, I could probably touch her.

This is also not caused by some poor quality integrated audio chips getting overwhelmed by the game. I have a decent Sound Blaster external gaming audio DAC and Massdrop PC37x / 38x headphones, which already puts me in a far better situations than the vast majority of PC gamers. People just don’t buy dedicated audio cards anymore and so many use poor quality “gaming” headphones.
