Dog pin down should be better

I really hate how the dogs are material only while their feet are on the ground.

The moment they jump it’s useless to dodge or shove them because they are considered as having already pinned you down.

As long as the pinned down animation has not started, our dodges should count towards dodging the attack!

This is not quite right.
You can actually stop them mid air, if you hit them with a push (or something else that staggers them enough).

Sometimes it can be a bit wonky, but usually it works.
Do you have high ping?

No, you can hit them and sometimes stagger them out of pinning you down, but once they jump there’s no dodging them.

Also the melee push work just as long as the jump animation has not started.

I usually don’t have high ping even though there’s the occasional bad server.

I have pushed dogs that were mid air, multiple times.

It does not seem to always work.
Especially, when the dog has had a long stretch to run at you. Then it does not even work in the meatgrinder (which has no ping issues).

But usually, you can push them while they are mid air.

I have learned not to do it because the push is absolutely useless. I now run towards them to push them while they’re on the ground, otherwise I’m pinned.

The same goes for dodging: I either dodge while they’re on the ground or dodging before they hit me is useless.

EDIT: as a counterexample I have no issues dodging snipers in the split second before the shot, only dogs, no matter how long the jump takes, are undodgeable.

Should push based on sound and not animation, push early as they jump not as they are at you.

You can basically push them from any distance which can be quite comical pushing a dog 8 meters away… but it works!

You are practically confirming that you push them outside the animation, not inside of it.
You are pushing the hitbox of the jump, that’s why you are able to push them from such a distance.

I agree with @Flawless , I can push them mid air. It wasn’t possible before the patch, you had to dodge or push them in the ground, before the jump.

After the big patch they made the dogs a lot more forgiving, actually. It’s easier to dodge and push them now than it was back then.

I can do it as long as I’m not the target, as if not being the target makes my actions count.

When I’m the target I know that seeing the dog jump makes any action somewhat invalid.

Usually I already know when they are jumping, so I just prepare the melee to defend and push. I do it with every class, going on auric and everything. I even should have more problem cuz I have to play on north american servers (South america does not have that many players), so I play with 150ms Ping, in south america it would be 10ms more or less.

I don’t think anyone is saying dogs are amazing or ideally consistent. But several of us in this thread have over a thousand hours in the game and we can confirm dogs can be pushed in mid air. And dodged. And shot.

Dog can totally get stagger mid jump, but it seem like if you do it at the last second it’ll lock you into pin anyway even if you hit it first. Probably have something to do with latency.

Skill or ping issue. You can 100% push/dodge them midair.

You can even hit them out of the air with the dagger if you have enough attack speed.

This is my issue: what I see on my monitor is not what’s happening in the netcode.

The fact that the servers have all hugely varying latencies does not make it possible to determine when to push back.

It depends very much on lag and how far away they are when they jump. It’s definitely possible to dodge them once they’re in the air.
