“Make these events matter! Let a failed ‘Purge the Gene-Lab’ mission spawn Mutant hordes for a week. Successful ‘Vox-Net Sabotage’ could disable Snipers globally. Tertium should feel alive — or at least as alive as a corpse-city under three Chaos gods can be!”
Dynamic Live Event Proposal for Warhammer 40K: Darktide
Core Concept:
“Tertium Hive City should writhe like a Tyranid-infested corpse! Instead of static ‘seasons,’ implement Phased Corruption Events that reshape missions, enemy behavior, and rewards between major updates. Make every login feel like stepping into a new front of the endless war.”
Event Types & Mechanics
Zone Control Warfare
Example: After players complete 10,000 “Purge the Gene-Lab” missions globally, trigger Nurgle’s Counteroffensive for 72 hours:
Infested zones spawn Plague Hulks (reskinned Chaos Spawns with toxin AoE).
Reward: Earn Rotbane Tokens to unlock exclusive plague doctor-inspired cosmetics.
Faction Incursions
Example: Random Ork Lootin’ Party events:
WAAAGH!-fueled Orks temporarily invade missions, fighting both players and Chaos forces.
Players stealing Ork loot crates gain temporary Shootier Dakka (bonus ranged damage but 50% accuracy penalty).
Weekly Contracts: Align tasks with active events (e.g., “Kill 20 Ork Lootas during WAAAGH! Incursions”).
Comms-Vox Broadcasts: Start missions with in-universe briefings (e.g., “Rejects, Tertium’s western spire is drowning in xeno filth! Cleanse it or face the Commissar’s bolt!”).
“Imagine the hive itself becoming the enemy — one week you’re burning Nurgle’s gardens in a blessed crusade, the next you’re dodging Ork stompas just to grab ammo. That’s the grimdark live service we deserve, not another bloody purity seal sticker!”
Optional Add-On: Tie event success/failure rates to persistent world states (e.g., prolonged losses to Nurgle spawns a Poxwalker Overmind boss raid).
@FatsharkStrawHat@FatsharkKitefin Do you think this is a good idea? If you also recognize a dynamic world system, please give feedback to the developers
After the event system was added last year, they were pretty infrequent in 2024. We have had 1 every month in 2025 so far.
The HD2-style events are just bits of text, some stat tracking (which may or may not be real lol), and toggling modifiers on and off. No reason FS couldn’t do that here!
I mean people did hate that, but what the OP is talking about is a reactive system where we do something to make something happen. They should just make the fail state oops all dogs in the dark.
I think nobody really hated the principle of it so much as how lazily executed it was. They just put hunting grounds on every mission then left for the holidays lol
My meaning was more that this was their take on this concept
Yea no totally, they just made all the rest of the game (the big dumb idiots!) and haven’t had a similar issue with events since. They definitely couldn’t do it.
How is that related? Events also stay on for a couple of weeks and aren’t reactive. You’re acting like I’m pessimistic but this “live service” game has been out for 3 years and they did nothing like it. Temper your expectations
PS: the people that made this game likely aren’t the ones maintaining it now
A dynamic system like in HD2 isn’t terribly complicated, definitely way less complicated than the rest of the game. There’s no technical reason it couldn’t be done, and there’s no lack of talent at FS.
I see people claim this, but I don’t know where they get it from. Almost all of the people on the FS streams are listed in the launch credits. FS isn’t the size of a triple-A developer, and they don’t seem to have a crazy turnover rate.
How many devs do you think worked on Darktide vs how many have you seen stream? It’s pretty standard practice to have a small crew work on maintaining the previous game while putting all the gogetter devs on the new project
Takeaway being it’s fairly clueless to say “they made the game so they can do this too”. The game had far more (and probably far better) devs on it pre release
The devs on stream are the ones working on weapons and maps and content we’ve been getting since launch. They’re all very capable. This HD2 dynamic events thing isn’t a big deal.
