I wish they would at least let us upgrade the locked Blessings with better tiers.
Right now I have a decent Bull Butcher knife that I FINALLY got after 350 hours of RNG. It has really good stats, but only a T1 Slaughterer.
So I literally need to pray that Hadron gives me at least a decent tier Confident Strike or Momentum on the second Blessing, or it’s back to the grind again.
(mind you, this BB is still gonna be decent, but imagine other weapons that may be outright bricked if Hadron decides to screw you up on nost just one, but both perks and blessings)
Everything else in the Dev Blog sounds great and I can get behind it… but I am tired of the RNG grinding lol.
Yeah, I think Darktide is a write off as well…
They make the RNG a little less with letting us get grey weapons… Then they massively increase the RNG by locking blessings… I predicted they would lock blessings seeing it was done with Perks, I’m just sad I was right
They’re just proving that everyone that thought all the bad systems were designed with malice, not incompetence, were right. They’re keeping the horrible RNG, grind, and making it near impossible to get what you want, all in an effort to pad out time spent in the game, and thus making it more likely you will buy cosmetics.
The biggest problem is that it really does nothing to fix Curio rolls or the RNG related to it.
Atleast in VT2 with trinkets you could roll the stats and the associated boon separately on top of them all having an expected outcome.
While curios seem a lot more flexible on paper you end up being at the mercy of RNG 4 separate times and need to invest a TON of material just to make a single good orange curio let alone 3.
And I’m saying good, not great, just “yeah I’ll settle for this because I’m tired and don’t feel like re-rolling / getting the crafting mats to upgrade a green from scratch for a 4th time.
I simply dont understand why they’re so stubborn about this new system that they’ve devised that is universally disliked and so heavy on RNG. VT2 had a system that everyone agreed was a good compromise – Now it seems like they’re trying to compromise this clunky, ridiculous system which is a problem for two reasons: The first being that no one likes this system, regardless of the nickle and diming, the second is that they are focusing on compromising this system as opposed to saying “ok screw it let’s go back to what we have cause it works, and focus on OTHER parts of the game that need desperate attention.”
This back and forth seems more like placating people by showing they’re doing something as opposed to cutting their losses on a bad decision and focusing on the other glaring flaws within the game.
I truly want this game to be awesome, sooooo badly… but I can’t understand their decisions.
I’ve already uninstalled Darktide at this point. I don’t understand Fatshark’s decisions on this at all. They purposely keep the rng grind going in the game, but why? Do they think the actual core gameplay loop is not enough to keep people around?
Coming from VT2 I didn’t play it for hundreds of hours in order to grind out weapons and builds. I enjoyed the challenge of the combat and trying out new builds. I was able to craft exactly the weapons/trinkets with the exact stats I needed, sure I had to reroll them a bunch but I had a ton of resources to do so. And the great thing was, If I didn’t want to ruin that weapon by trying a new build I could just craft another red weapon with accumulated dust and roll the stats I wanted for a new build.
Let’s not forget you could even share trinkets, amulets and resources etc amongst classes/characters, crazy huh?
It felt good, I didn’t feel like I was wasting my time. I could just play the game, with the build I wanted and enjoy it.
Darktide feels like Fatshark wants the gameplay loop to be about amassing weapons and materials and then playing the slot machine over and over, not about actually enjoying the core game and experimenting. The core gameplay is good, but I feel like I’m punished if I want to use different builds or start a new character,
I get they want player retention and “high end” loot to chase but this isn’t a looter shooter like borderlands. Vermintide 2, and this, are more focused on skill and build combinations and tackling harder difficulties. This just makes it too much of a pain. I can’t easily experiment with different blessings on the same weapon.
Just give us “reds” that can get 400 on modifiers and up to 100%, that will be enough for some people to chase better weapons. Or even just a cool cosmetic that has a chance to roll as emperor’s gifts like the glowing red skins from Vermintide 2.
I think it’s better to make most mechanical things available to all players at level 30, and just have cosmetics be the grind.
if 1 blessing and 1 perk is locked why can we not upgrade the locked Perk and Blessing to max level?
I have hundreds of weapons that I can’t upgrade because of the lack of crafting mats with the almost 1000hours played I have. Why can I not scrap the hundreds of useless items for crafting mats?
I feel if crafting is going to have 1 locked perk and blessing then let us pick from a list.
It feels so bad when you get a great base item and then it turns into a steaming hot turd after you spend hours and hours gathering crafting mats
Need to add one more thing the super rare blessings like power cycler or inspiring barrage let me give you some feed back after 1000 hours of play I have never seen 1 power cycler blessing and i have seen inspiring barrage twice {1 time was in beta} how long dose some one need to play for to find 3 of them?
Keep this in mind if its not fun then its not good.
“The other blessing that was not chosen will become locked.”
This is probably the final nail in the coffin for me. Perks being locked… Fine. But the blessings are pretty integral to wanting to try different combinations over.
I’m fine with needing to find good base stat weapons.
I’m fine with needing to hunt down good blessings to extract.
I’m fine being able to combine those two RNG-based elements into a weapon.
What I’m NOT fine with, is having the stats of a base weapon be RNG-based AND tied 50% to the RNG of what blessings /perks it has. The compounding RNG effect is F’ing miserable.
I’ve played about 125 hours of Psyker. I have a Deflector Force sword I found when I had about 30 hours into the psyker. The other blessing is “okay.” The base item stats are a measly 338. This is STILL the best Force sword with deflector I’ve found. I HAVE found higher base stat force swords, but only one of them has a blessing I want (Slaughter), which I could keep to slot in defelctor. Except of course both of the perks are trash and I’ll be stuck with one of them. 125 hours and still don’t have ONE weapon I’ve been working towards.
And if they rolled out this crafting update today and I did all the crafting I could, I WOULD STILL NOT HAVE THE WEAPON I WANT. 125 hours and still no weapon. And we’re just talking about ONE WEAPON in the game. What if I tried to do that for all the other weapons? It’s insane.
Probably going to have to shelve this. It’s too f’ing frustrating and unejoyable to deal with,
It will also make people quit the game faster, because they won’t feel motivated to try/play the other classes which might avoid feeling very samey by playing the same thing over and over. They are just destroying this game in every way they can.
I’ve kept the game installed because I thought that crafting might be competently fixed. The fact that your team is still insisting on locking blessings and perks shows you have no respect for player’s time whatsoever and I’m done. You’d think having your game savaged in reviews would be enough of a wake up call, and I was rooting for you and defending you up to this point. I’ve been a massive fan since Vermintide 1 was in beta.
But after this tone deaf “solution” your company deserves to fail.
You’re still not going to allow people to change both weapon perks/blessings? Really? One of the things that everybody everywhere unanimously has been asking for, and you’re not going to do it, out of spite? really??
It’s like some egoistical developer/designer listened to a few webinar’s on how to maximize player retention in a mobile gacha games and completely failed understand why that won’t translate into a hardcore, non-freemium, cooperative FPS shooter game. Tone deaf is an understatement.
It’s almost like you just need to release content and maps and your product will take in cash and keep a player base for years like Payday and Left 4 Dead 2.
You had the core gameplay down and decided you’d rather eat the golden goose than collect it’s eggs.
Overall very nice read untill… “Players can choose to replace a single blessing on the weapon with a blessing of choice they have earned the right to use. The other blessing that was not chosen will become locked.”
Big OOF.
I expected that you might let us reroll both perks but instead you double down on locking blessings too.
